Dominic Cummings Covid evidence

Newtonianmechanics · 31/10/2023 09:17

Is anyone going to watch this man give evidence today?

Apparently there is a vigil in Barnard Castle ahead of this.

The shopping trolleys emoji seems to mean they think Carrie was controlling Boris from the last few days. Wonder if this will feature.

Scotland did no better.

I can accept genuine mistakes, made in good faith (it was after all a totally new situation) for the benefit of the country/population... Johnson & Co don't fall into this category.

That they partied, far harder than is generally accepted, is proof they took us all for fools & maybe we were, even are?

Scotland did no better.

What? I get that people hate the SNP, but at no point did Sturgeon say the elderly should accept their fate. Not did Scotland give PPE contracts to their political contacts. Nor did the Scottish governments have multiple piss ups.

The machinery of government in Scotland looked functional.

Newtonianmechanics · 31/10/2023 19:42

Mischance · 31/10/2023 19:29

I am listening to it via BBC iplayer News channel.

The real gem came from the Director of Communications - rather stuffy and very circumspect - who said of Boris Johnson: "It was the wrong crisis for the Prime Minister's skill set." In other words, BJ was not capable of dealing with it - and so people died ......

I can't help asking myself what his "skill set" is suitable for dealing with - or indeed even whether he has one.

Looking quirky, funny and one of 'us 'with three word slogans.

Get Brexit done.

Jason Leitch deleted all his Watsapp messages so we don’t know what they said.

Happygirl79 · 31/10/2023 19:47

Can the deleted WhatsApp messages be recovered?
This should be made a priority.
Otherwise they are just covering up again

. . . and terrifying.

Their incompetence kills people and ruins millions of lives.

They must go.

It's the callous indifference. They really don't care about anyone outside their privileged bubble. They're not even trying to hide it now.

The comments about the elderly 'accepting their fate' were brutal to read/hear just now.

We could all see Johnson's attitude but the proof is still shocking.

Sadly, that seems to be the attitude towards the elderly still.

DuncinToffee · 31/10/2023 20:07

I am sure Scotland made many mistakes and the deleted whatsapp messages are really bad but the Tory government's imcompetence laid bare the last 2 days will take some beating

After all the scandal surrounding the SNP and you still defend them. The SNP is not Scotland. If your Scottish granny died in a care home riddled with Covid then I doubt you would care which government sent her there.

DuncinToffee · 31/10/2023 20:25

How am I defending them?

I am saying they won't be as bad as the Johnson administration.

Jeevesnotwooster · 31/10/2023 20:29

Agreed. I can't imagine Nicola Sturgeon or her team engaged in any of the rubbish that has come out over the past two days.

derxa · 31/10/2023 20:39

Agreed. I can't imagine Nicola Sturgeon or her team engaged in any of the rubbish that has come out over the past two days.

And so the myth continues. Nicola’s swanning around passing her driving test just as Boris is pictured jogging with his dog. All smoke and mirrors.

Crikeyalmighty · 31/10/2023 21:15

@Mischance his skillset was convincing many rather non political 'folks' that he was a bit of a laugh, didn't take himself too seriously and had their best interests at heart , the reality was that he was just a good time boy who was desparate to be liked and would say anything if he thought it played along with voters moods - even if it was totally not what was needed.

Lalgarh · 31/10/2023 22:11

News At Ten on ITV referencing The Thick Of It and noting this makes satire quaintly irrelevant

It was a viewpoint expressed on here regularly. Populist politician spouts populist views. Nobody really surprised.

EasternStandard · 01/11/2023 07:17

So much on DC this morning. I can’t believe we’re wasting taxpayer money on him again with this

Alexandra2001 · 01/11/2023 07:32

Its not just Cummings, the way some are portraying is he is a lone wolf and everyone is praising Bojo etc.... far from the truth.... other advisors, civil servants and Prof Chris Whitty too are even more scathing.

But of course, if the blame can be switched to DC, all is good in Tory world.

Lets ignore the evidence that Bojo wanted to see people like my mum, friends & in laws die alone, maybe with an ipad for company... i wonder what the age cut off was? 55? 60? i'd imagine quite a few on here would have been got rid of.

Well if they are not economical active what use are they?

Lalgarh · 01/11/2023 07:36

It was Cummings who 1st trended on twitter c. March 2020 for saying that COVID should be allowed to let rip through the elderly. I remember when it was reported in one of the papers.

People were aware but this just confirmed it

"Not the right skillset" for this prime ministerial role, as Lee Cain put it. Snowflake.

Sarah Vine is trying to deflect all the blame to the SPADS and is praising Boris.

The mud slinging is depressing. I don't think any of them can admit any responsibility.

The mud slinging is not inquiry material

I thought we’d get statisticians etc but no. WhatsApp and swearing at each other

NeverDropYourMooncup · 01/11/2023 07:46

Interesting alternative explanations for a trolley emoji would be

He's off his trolley - ie, doesn't know what he's doing, is not mentally up to the task, is insane.

Or

Absolutely trollied. As in intoxicated, drunk to incapability, high as a kite.

Alexandra2001 · 01/11/2023 07:59

Mobile phone evidence is evidence.... its not mud slinging.

It is giving an insight into the Governance of this country at a crucial time for us all.

People complain about LDs... were they needed etc etc but how on earth can we make informed opinions on this unless we know what was the thinking at no10 ?

So it seems the no LD that many wanted would have been at the expense of our parents.....

I do wonder whether it would be mudslinging if we'd had a Lab Govt and they had behaved like Boris etc?

What do you mean? Don't you think it's important that he's made to answer the Inquiry's questions?

What do you mean? Don't you think it's important that he's made to answer the Inquiry's questions?

I was hoping for an answer to the big question of at what point is the damage from lockdown and harms to all age groups is it worth it for the risk

To learn for the next pandemic on what to do. The really big societal stuff.

Atm the biggest thing a politician will learn is don’t be an idiot and chat on WhatsApp or similar, if you call people morons do it carefully
