Dominic Cummings Covid evidence

Is anyone going to watch this man give evidence today?

Apparently there is a vigil in Barnard Castle ahead of this.

The shopping trolleys emoji seems to mean they think Carrie was controlling Boris from the last few days. Wonder if this will feature.

I am not sure.

It suggests that Boris Johnson really was being pushed in the direction chosen by whoever was closest to him at the time.
This is reinforced by the emoji posted by Lee Cain at the end of the exchange - a shopping trolley.

You mean like the Ice Lord Lebedev?? Who he met several times right at the start of the pandemic…

frostyfingers · 31/10/2023 12:43

I would urge everyone to fill this in: https://covid19.public-inquiry.uk/every-story-matters/

The more evidence of the damage they did the better and even though it won't affect much I found it helpful to get my feelings down on paper about what happened/what they did to us.

I see he's whingeing on about other people being 'the wrong people' while presumably still considering himself to be one of the right people.

He's just acknowledged that he shouldn't have been in No. 10.

FictionalCharacter · 31/10/2023 12:48

Is Cummings trying to reinvent himself as a Good Guy now?
I remember how he inserted himself into SAGE meetings which is a committee of experts where he didn’t belong. One member described him as an “intimidating presence”. Without doubt he relayed his own version of events at those meetings to BJ.
I’m fed up of all the gossip about Carrie being in charge. BJ is useless, but he was surrounded by advisors in the civil service who he should have been listening to. We always get the narrative of a powerful man being controlled by ‘er indoors as though men are helpless creatures and women are scheming witches. I’m not a fan of Carrie but this is bog standard misogyny.

It's awful. Sadly lots of people agree.

A few on here certainly do.

Totally agree.

I think Carrie is dreadful by all accounts, but agree Johnson had the job and chooses who to listen to. The buck stops with those in the Cabinet and their advisers.

MidnightOnceMore · 31/10/2023 12:59

He's mentioned The Trolley!

PerkingFaintly · 31/10/2023 13:12

I can't watch now, so very grateful for your commentary.

The Shopping Trolley is extremely telling imagary. Cummings and crew may not realise how much they are giving away with this.

Unlike, a rampaging rhino, say, a shopping trolley is always just an object being driven by an actual person. The driver of the trolley becomes frustrated that they can't control the trolley and get it to properly obey them.

Cummings has said similar in a TV interview I still have recorded - that he helped put Johnson in No 10 because he expected that he, Cummings, would then be controlling him.

MidnightOnceMore · 31/10/2023 13:15

Lunch break now til 2pm @PerkingFaintly

PerkingFaintly · 31/10/2023 13:15

NB I agree that Johnson retains responsibility for his actions, and that scapegoating Carrie is misogyny.

beguilingeyes · 31/10/2023 13:17

It's on BBC News also. I just hate the fact that there are no repercussions for this appalling conduct. Johnson has sailed off to spend more time with his money and Sunak is Prime Minister FFS. Even Hancock only got his comeuppance because he was caught having an affair.

LlynTegid · 31/10/2023 13:23

Boris Johnson should face criminal charges, which if found guilty include those that until the 1960s carried the death penalty.

Many people, over the years, have said Bojo isn't good at making decisions, if several people from colleagues to the Deputy CMO to civil servants etc say the same thing, chances are its true.

Cummings cannot be the "Good Guy" anymore but that doesn't make what he is saying untrue.

Its also backed up my Whatsapp messages and by the fact people like Sunak are trying to hide their involvement by "losing" their phones...

Anyway, these people have covered their arses by making sure the inquiry findings are AFTER the next GE.

MidnightOnceMore · 31/10/2023 13:35

Cummings cannot be the "Good Guy" anymore but that doesn't make what he is saying untrue. I agree. I find the rude way he describes things enjoyable to watch, whilst also holding him partly responsible.

piscofrisco · 31/10/2023 13:45

I think I'm just shocked all over again about the amount of power unelected (and tbh possibly unhinged) people had or still have over us all.

catscatscurrantscurrants · 31/10/2023 13:46

I am watching, and find the work of the KCs very interesting - persistent and unruffled, in charge of the conversation. It was a bit electrifying to hear the erudite and urbane barrister using all the swear words from the evidence so calmly.

milveycrohn · 31/10/2023 14:10

I personally find it annoying that the main proponents of the Lockdown policies (Matt Hancock, Neil Ferguson, Dominic Cummings and Boris Johnson), all seem to have flouted the rules themselves in some way.
Secondly, as much as I dislike Carrie Johnson, I really also dislike the way she is being blamed for some decisions, or made a scapegoat in some way. It was reported that Cummings was rude about her, and was fired as a result, so naturally he wants to get his own back. And that is the level of politics we seem to have these days. Some sort of one upmanship, etc
I am sure Cherie Blair (wife of former PM Tony Blair), would also have made a 'contribution', except maybe she was cleverer in not making enemies of the 'wrong' people. (I have used her as an example as she had her own career, rather than other spouses, who have managed to remain fairly anonymous).
Suank was fined as well, though I understand in his case, he turned up early for a meeting and was handed a piece of cake, which he did not eat. That the partygate report was handled by Sue Gray (who has now joined the Labour party, and whose son is standing as a Labour Candidate in the next election), certainly hints at a bias there.

I've had it on in the background all day so listened to Lee Cain this morning. The question I keep asking about DC is: Why on earth was he even there?! 'They didn't listen to me, I asked for this to happen and it didn't' What did it even have to do with him? Nuts.

Sunak got fined for attending an illegal gathering, whether or not he ate cake is irrelevant,

Sunak gave an “unreserved apology” for attending the gathering, saying he deeply regretted “the frustration and anger caused” and confirming the £50 penalty had been paid.

Sue Gray was appointed by Johnson

I do wish Cummings would write a brutally honest book about his time in Downing Street.

midlifemelancholy · 31/10/2023 15:20

Sorry please explain the link between Carrie and the shopping trolley? I am not abreast of any of this.
