Dominic Cummings Covid evidence

Is anyone going to watch this man give evidence today?

Apparently there is a vigil in Barnard Castle ahead of this.

The shopping trolleys emoji seems to mean they think Carrie was controlling Boris from the last few days. Wonder if this will feature.

Sorry please explain the link between Carrie and the shopping trolley? I am not abreast of any of this.

One news paper article implied it was Carrie controlling Boris like a shopping trolley.

However Cummings has said it was because he constantly changed direction.

I do wish Cummings would write a brutally honest book about his time in Downing Street.

I don't think he could, because I'm not sure I've ever heard him say 'I failed in this way'.

MidnightOnceMore · 31/10/2023 15:43

Fucking herd immunity.

So depressing listening to this stuff. I remember being despairing watching the lockdown delay.

Really is.
Not to do with anything but we is he sat chilled with his hands in his head?

Chicken pox parties Shock
Zombie apocalypse Shock

That bloody whiteboard

wowsers6 · 31/10/2023 16:01

Can't believe that exchange.
The text that said so and so is babbling about chickenpox.

Apparently there was advice to the PM that it'll be like chicken pox and people will be having chickenpox parties and then it will be over??

Most telling part;

"You should stop using that analogy.
Why?
Because chickenpox doesn't spread exponentially and kill thousands and thousands of people."
Shock

Johnson broke our entire system of government.

Never have I missed John Major before!

Please can Steady Starmer get elected? I just want normal government again.

BeadedBubbles · 31/10/2023 16:05

I think the really telling thing is that so many of the people in charge of managing the worst health crisis the UK has faced in a century didn't have enough intelligence to realise that their WhatsApp messages could become public at some point in the future.

Regardless of whether they appreciated the likelihood of a public inquiry (and given their total lack of foresight in everything else it's not surprising they didn't) there's always the risk of messages ending up with the wrong person. Or someone maliciously leaking screenshots.

Never put anything in writing - on screen, paper or phone - that you wouldn't want others to read. Some of us learned that lesson the hard way early on in our careers 😳

I was watching the Inquiry on Sky News this morning and they cut to Starmer's speech at Chatham House. It was quite a contrast with the Inquiry shit show!

Iphianassa · 31/10/2023 16:09

I watched on BBC2 this morning, had to go out (to work, bah!, but I recorded the rest and will watch later) and am back but on BBC News channel 231.

I was struck by how neutral was the KC questioning Lee Cain this morning, but the one questioning Dominic Cummings has some much sharper, personal questions - Why didn’t you….?

Agree with the PP @catscatscurrantscurrants ”I… find the work of the KCs very interesting - persistent and unruffled, in charge of the conversation.”

MidnightOnceMore · 31/10/2023 16:12

I agree @BeadedBubbles - the terminology, the personal attacks are all shocking!

Totally agree. The level of unprofessionalism is staggering.

I wasn’t a fan of her as PM but Theresa May would have been much better at handling the pandemic.

MrsLeonFarrell · 31/10/2023 16:32

I tried to watch but the dissonance of watching Mr Barnard Castle acting as if he was the most ethical and knowledgeable person in the government was too much

They think they’re special, untouchable and above all that. Why should they have to abide by professional standards like the lower orders do?

Newtonianmechanics · 31/10/2023 16:42

He is denied being misogynistic.

OP posts:
BeadedBubbles · 31/10/2023 16:42

Am really very shocked at the language Cummins used about Helen MacNamara - absolutely disgusting 😡

AutumnCrow · 31/10/2023 16:43

He says his language was deplorable to Boris Johnson as well so that makes him not a misogynist?

Jeevesnotwooster · 31/10/2023 16:43

Totally agree @TokyoSushi . In a properly functioning and prepared government DCs role would have been much more limited. I've no idea is he was the "good guy" or not but it was pretty obvious things were out of control by begining of March. I took a train half way across the country to help my elderly Dad prepare and wore my scarf round my mouth the whole time and uses my coat to touch door handles. We had already stocked up ourselves by that point, as had half of Mumsnet I recall.

BeadedBubbles · 31/10/2023 16:45

He wasn't misogynistic because he said worse things about men!!! Does he not realise that some of the language he used about HM - cunt, stiletto heels etc - are denigrating her as a woman? 🙄

catscatscurrantscurrants · 31/10/2023 16:46

He's a foul, slippery little weasel. And that's being unfair to weasels.

Newtonianmechanics · 31/10/2023 16:50

Yeh I’m not watching. This is probably costing millions too. No end to tax payer £ on this stuff rehashing WhatsApps

And this

He's a foul, slippery little weasel. And that's being unfair to weasels. re Cummings

derxa · 31/10/2023 16:53

fascinating

beguilingeyes · 31/10/2023 16:55

When you're a kid, you always think that the people in charge know what they're doing, and are super smart.
When you realise how inept and incapable they all are (especially this lot) it's profoundly depressing and infuriating.
