Is anyone going to watch this man give evidence today?

Apparently there is a vigil in Barnard Castle ahead of this.

The shopping trolleys emoji seems to mean they think Carrie was controlling Boris from the last few days. Wonder if this will feature.

I'll wait for the transcript on the website.

I did find this tweet

https://x.com/jim_reed/status/1720133396444086779?s=20

More re: Matt Hancock at #covidinquiry. Yvonne Doyle, then medical director at Public Health England, said gave TV interview in Jan 2020 saying could be UK cases. Called into meeting with Hancock, told off, stopped from more media and asked "not to patronise him".

Doyle said: “I felt I had let him down in some way…. But I still felt I had spoken the truth.” She was back doing media and podium stuff in March/April btw.

Obviously that post was about this site during the pandemic

And yes the push back from the many posters who wanted harsher restrictions and argued against damage to women and children included insults and attacks

It’s all there. If people want to understand why women didn’t say more on those harms it’s in recorded in real time

If you wanted fewer harms to women and children then presumably you were and are in favour of locking down sooner and the government making use of the time it had in January and February of 2020 to make plans about what to do when the pandemic reached us. Instead they partied, went skiing and met with newspaper propreitors to take advice on what to do.

It is not a low priority issue for me so Biscuit for that.

But it is a low priority issue for those who do not wish to learn from the mistakes of the past. Such as voting for a government that refused to engage in any forward planning for a forthcoming crisis.

Your thread policing suggests otherwise.

My posts are highlighting the harms to women and children during the pandemic

As brought up by the HM at the inquiry

@EasternStandard

But yet you moan abide teachers and unions. As pp said a lot of teachers are woman. Schools don't ooen without teachers.

On another note I am recognising the KCs now also.

I have already pointed this out, but teachers and the teaching unions were repeatedly talking about the harms to children of the governments decisions. If only they had been listened to.

Yes I saw it the first time.

The response is still the same. I prefer Save the Children advice as obviously unions are for their members not for children.

DuncinToffee · 02/11/2023 22:25

And union members don't have children?

Who looked after the chidlren in schools? and outside with the extra support they provided, checking up with children and their families, providing meals, computers etc.

Where was the PPE? Ventilation?

So you won't listen to experts who were advocating for children because you don't like them. Ok.

On the subject of having a Cabinet Minister for Children and Young People, given that the number of Cabinet Ministers is capped at 21 plus the Lord Chancellor, which current Cabinet position do you propose removing to create this new position?

Perhaps Defence Secretary, since with Grant Shapps in the role we may as well not have one?

Unions are bad, Thatcher said so, so it must be true.

Well that’s a stretch. No that doesn’t mean the union’s remit changes.

Save the Children didn’t recommend it because it’s not the right way to go.

DuncinToffee · 02/11/2023 22:31

Save the Children didn't recomment it

What is 'it'

Andy why is their word gospel in your opinion? Do you think they are the only ones worth listening to?

The Save the Children founders actually set up the International Save the Children Union

I’ve already said I agree with them

Even with the many posts not wanting what they’ve suggested I still agree

Unions are not best placed to represent children and young people in a pandemic for the obvious reason they represent their members solely.

‘it’ is their recommendation to have a top level voice and other
Why don’t you read the report for more on ‘it’ and be informed.

And why wouldn’t you want children’s interests represented?

You and others are pushing back pretty hard, as parents wouldn’t you want it?

Unions are for members first. Even if those members ‘have children’

DuncinToffee · 02/11/2023 22:54

Today at the Inquiry questions were asked on behalf of following core participants

Save the Children UK, Just for Kids Law and the Children’s Rights Alliance for England.
Long Covid Kids, Long Covid SOS and Long Covid Support.
The Federation of Ethnic Minority Healthcare Organisations (FEMHO)
Covid Bereaved Families for Justice

EasternStandard · 02/11/2023 22:56

Good. I hope STC bring up their recommendations at the relevant stage.

Indeed unions are there to represent the views of their members, and perhaps not surprisingly members of teaching unions, being teachers are often much concerned about the well being of children.

Well you’ll be fine then as a representative for children will align with what you want.

EasternStandard · 02/11/2023 23:01

And if it doesn’t then it’s better that children have that voice instead.

DuncinToffee · 02/11/2023 23:02

And to add to the list of core participants

Trades Union Congress.
Disability Rights UK, Disability Action Northern Ireland, Inclusion Scotland and Disability Wales.

Given all these expert representatives exist it really is odd that the government didn't listen to them at the time.

PinkBallgown · 02/11/2023 23:24

Michael Gove said that the public had an enough of experts which is why we were to ignore them and vote for Brexit. Same thing.

EasternStandard · 02/11/2023 23:25

Well that’s good. When the experts at STC recommend what they do everyone will be happier.

DuncinToffee · 02/11/2023 23:36

Maybe the experts were all female, we know from the last days that women were not listened to, Dr Doyle was even told to keep her distance for telling the truth.

minou123 · 03/11/2023 00:10

I love the Thick Of It
Especially the last episodes, where they are holding a Public Inquiry into the death of Mr Tickel.

As much as i enjoy them. I always thought those episodes were exaggerated and Armando Iannucci was just going for the comedy.

But now, after just watching Module 1 and 2 of the Covid Inquiry, Armando was more on the money than I thought.
If anything the Thick Of It Inquiry is far tamer than the Covid Inquiry and Armando couldn't come up with this in his widest dreams.
