Dd1 has a 6 hour ferry trip on monday morning.

Notalone · 08/03/2008 10:40

Oh jesus christ, as if I wasn't nervy enough about it already.

I'm not going to tell dd, she is already getting the wobbles about going.

So theoretically, would there ferry journey be postponed then ?

hippipotami · 08/03/2008 10:48

Yes, if it was not safe, the ferry would not travel. They would not take an unnecessary risk.

Cracker, was your dd allocated a different dorm for the trip? (sorry, unable to locate other thread)

Hippi - She was put in another dorm yep, so she is happy now.

Their ferry is due to depart from Portsmouth at 08:45.

What happens if it gets cancelled then ? Would they just have to sit it out until it was safe to travel on a later ferry ??

CrackerOfNuts · 08/03/2008 11:17

Snap Harma, the fence at the back of my garden is lined with huge trees which are very overgrown. The HA refuse to do anything about them despite one faling into the next door neighbours garden a few years back.

snorkle · 08/03/2008 11:35

Oh cracker, the timing is terrible - 8am is when the first wave of high winds will pass over London (& prob Portsmouth too). I think there's a good chance the ferry will be delayed, but they do go out in most weathers. Make sure she has quells, I think it will be a most uncomfortable crossing. Is it a long or a short one by the way?

Cracker - it will go later if it's not safe. We went to France some years ago and the ferry was delayed due to bad weather. It will be rough though no doubt and they will keep people off the upper decks. I actually like it when it's rough sea.

She'll be fine.

Notalone · 08/03/2008 11:55

Sorry Cracker - was stuffing my face. The timing is awful isn't it? I would imagine if it is going to be as bad as they say then the ferry will be delayed until the storm has passed. What are you going to do? Are you going to let her go? Do you have an emergency no for the school to discuss your fears with the group leader?

Harman - just read your post. How terribly sad for your family. Did it happen recently?

In Cape Town the South Easter wind blow every year from November - May 70mph winds are not uncommon there. Photographers always hides out to take pictures of people blowing about on their way to work and would print it in the newspapers. Over here it seems everybody hides!
