The chat appears to have gone quiet today after the last thread filled up, so I'm making a new one for anyone who wants to come together whilst we all hold our breath hoping for a good outcome.

odd story how he decided to put his gym stuff on so he could straight to the gym after he had found her

And…
here we go again.
This is why these threads need to be deleted.

I'm very concerned that a missing woman case can only be treated as suspicious with hard evidence. It seems the police's hands are tied without it and some of them may be equally frustrated. Who knows maybe they appealed to 700 drivers to try and find something that would allow them to change the nature of their enquiries. Extremely sad and desperate situation.

I agree

and that assumptions appear to be being made

Does anyone know where the piece of string to tie the dog up came from? Seems a random thing to have found at the time it was needed and not something people carry when out and about under normal circumstances?!

I think it was on one of the lists on Facebook posted by the friend where several points were made to clear up the parts that were disputed or where there had been contradictions from reports - I seem to remember that this claimed the string was already there on the collar when the person found the loose dog. However, not sure whether even the list making attempts to clarify, could be taken as accurate.

They said that the woman who saw the phone said that she could not unlock it. Maybe she did not know how to unlock it just saying what they said.

If the phone was locked, could the phone still have been logged in to the Teams call? That's not possible on my phone. If the phone was locked, does this mean that Teams had automatically disconnected, therefore it would have been more than 13 minutes after the call ended - which would mean it was much later when the witness found the phone than has been reported.

melonraspberry · 11/02/2023 19:10

Yes someone said on previous thread that teams can be on and phone locked. Like music I guess, my phone is always locked when I’m listening to anything

There are so many missing people each year. Imagine if the police treated each one as criminal? Apart from the cost to tax payers the infringement on liberties eg searching houses.

Its akin to saying we need to screen every adult over 30 each year for cancer/heart disease (as almost happens in USA and I personally think might be a good idea)

The cost would be extortionate and the benefits of those you found would be tiny in comparison.

dawngreen · 11/02/2023 19:10

But it said she was still connected , even though the others had left.

In October though?

Yeah I know - just the same description that has been floating about this week. Probably just some poor plumber going about his day (which is why I covered the reg!) I don't live local so no idea why a van would cause concern in the area anyway - but I live in a city where a 'strange van' wouldn't even be noticed, nevermind posted on FB.

I'm not even sure why the 'tatty red van' is even relevant, or who first mentioned it tbh.

lemmein · 11/02/2023 19:14

Sorry, that was to @AnotherAppleThief

Justmeandthedog1 · 11/02/2023 19:14

is the neighbouring caravan park a statics only site or are there towed caravans, motorhome, camper vans that can stay for a night or more?
If it’s the second I wonder if the police have checked on anyone who left that day.

You stay connected until you physically leave

Yes, that's confirmed - that may have been confirmed by Nicola's employer.

dawngreen · 11/02/2023 19:15

Some one saw a fb 2022 post about a red tatty van hanging around their area, and I think they noticed one parked in the same car park as her. But it could be a business supplier, plumber any one.

melonraspberry · 11/02/2023 19:14

There's an automatic disconnect - 13 minutes after the call ends if you don't log out.

But usually there is some reason why they may have gone missing. It doesn’t appear there is in this one - nor an opportunity

i have seen the error of my ways and worked out why!
delete though if it makes you feel better

Oaktree55 · 11/02/2023 19:19

Anyway there’s enough missing people near waterways by me over past 10 years for me to know that bodies take a long time to be found and sometimes never. That’s the nature of it and why we should all respect water however innocuous it may appear. I don’t know what happened but it was likely another tragic accident of which there are many, you just don’t realise as they don’t get the same publicity.

Odd in what sort of way?

Websleuths has really strict rules and active moderation

Seems to be theorising about how she chose to disappear

Mygosh · 11/02/2023 19:24

Kerfuffler, I was just mentioning the red van out the window. Is it possible that someone knew about this van and was trying to stir trouble? Bit strange because most vans still tend to be white. Mumsnet keeps changing my name lol

dawngreen · 11/02/2023 19:25

I don't live near there so it surprised me to see how shallow it was from the weir to the bench. Watching them carry a dingy upstream the water barely reached their waists. I assumed if the cold did not shock her she would stand up. And it said it only becomes tidal after the weir.

Frazzledmummy123 · 11/02/2023 19:27

After last night's programme, I wondered if maybe her partner suspects someone local in particular, and police have told him the most he can say is he thinks someone local knows something. It would explain the police persisting with saying she is in the river as they are keeping an eye on this person, and don't want to spook them. Just a thought.

That said, the dog's harness being found halfway down the embankment does point to her being in the river so who knows! Either way, my heart breaks for the family and I hope she is found soon.
