The chat appears to have gone quiet today after the last thread filled up, so I'm making a new one for anyone who wants to come together whilst we all hold our breath hoping for a good outcome.

I read the water was 2 or 3ft deep near the edges but up to 13ft in the centre. But even if the cold water did shock her, why wouldn’t either of the harness/phone finders have seen her minutes after this hypothetical fall into the river?

Surely they looked around briefly? And seeing the harness apparently half way down the embankment, they didn’t think to look in the river? Others have also said that her clothes might have provided buoyancy thereby moving her downstream and over the weir - so, again, why wasn’t she seen? She’d be on/near the surface.

Her clothing was dark. It’s difficult to see things just below surface even when purposefully looking. I say this as someone who’s often on look out boating.

I’ve just ordered personal alarms for me and dd. This case has affected so many of us. It doesn’t help that we are not convinced by police response and personally I feel they are making assumptions based on very little.

I don't blame you. It makes you feel vulnerable doesn't it.
We have 2 ways to walk to school, one down a main road which is which is always a huge line of traffic, or the scenic route which is lovely but you generally don't see anyone.
I've not taken the scenic route since she went missing.

I think from the interview with Paul Ansell , I thought it was clear he has assumed she’s dead now and he just wishes closure, for her to be found and for them to know what’s happened And to be able to tell their children. There is no Nikki if you’re out there, type appeals.

He clearly doesn’t believe she’s mysteriously fallen in the river, drowned in shallow water, and been washed out to sea, evading every searcher and their equipment on the way.

its clear he also doesn’t think she’s in hiding some where, but that something unexpected has happened, and said that someone in rhe village will know. Which was a curious thing to say.

which means he thinks a third party is involved. Someone has killed her. Maybe accidentally and has covered it up.

Yep that’s my impression too.

This is a good point
On a dull, grey morning you wouldn't likely see something black in there.

Yes it is frustrating.@ofwarren Every thing leads back to that flippen bench. Part of me wonders if she had a confrontation with another dog walker, or her dog entered some where where it should not have gone.

dawngreen · 12/02/2023 10:42

But I expected them to find her on the first day. They seemed sure of the entry point there.

ilovebrie8 · 12/02/2023 10:43

I’ve never thought she went in the water but it’s been made to look like she did...

I think the failure to search the water upstream of the bench in the early stages may have been a huge error if her body is found in the water. Obviously, it will be an easy mistake for the police to cover up by claiming they were right that she entered the water. However, they have been adamant this was at the area of the bench throughout this investigation, so may have missed vital clues such as slip marks elsewhere on the river bank. Even if she entered the water, it doesn't mean she did so accidentally so other vital evidence may now be lost.

Myself and 2 DDs carry them but I've added a can of Impulse to my armoury! Apparently a squirt of something in the face is a good deterrent.

ofwarren · 12/02/2023 10:47

I have already mentioned this but its got lost in the posts.

If, as Paul states, they take in turns taking Willow for a walk, how did the caravan park owner know the phone she found was Nicola's?
Also, she didn't take the phone with her and she says her daughter in law knew it was Nicola from the description of the dog.

The whole account of finding willow and the phone is so confusing to me.

MeinKraft · 12/02/2023 10:49

'I wonder how many criminal/police experts were covid scientists during the pandemic, same vibes.'

Is that the 'reads the news and discusses it' vibe?

Wittow · 12/02/2023 10:50

Do we know how Paul got the bruising around his right eye?

Crumpetdisappointment · 12/02/2023 10:51

the person who found willow, may not have had a phone on them to call, not everybody carries a phone,

The bruising that doesn't exist?

Someone responded earlier suggesting the phone may have looked feminine which I think sounds reasonable Eg I have a pink phone cover so people would rightly assume its mine, not DHs.

Bluebellwood129 · 12/02/2023 10:51

@ofwarren I've wondered a lot about this because the whole hypothesis is based on her account. I wonder if anyone else saw this lady and can verify the timings she has given and what her relationship with Nicola and her family is
The lock screen may have a recognisable image and I suppose she could have taken a picture of Willow to text to her daughter.

Crumpetdisappointment · 12/02/2023 10:51

It was 100 yards from her house/farm/caravan park

Peppepepper · 12/02/2023 10:52

The sun so dubious link and I'd never usually read let alone share a link to it but can't find it anywhere else? Seems beyond the headline police followed this up and also did request cctv from local businesses quickly:

www.thesun.co.uk/news/21356075/nicola-bulley-cops-hunt-suspicious-men-cctv/

I've worked in this field for (too) many years, personally I think lancs police are doing a great job.

There's something there, you could see it clearly in the last interview

OP posts:
Crumpetdisappointment · 12/02/2023 10:54

yes but you see a dog on their own you dont noramlly phone anyone immediately!
round here they might put it on facebook, but perhaps she the owner was just around the corner

Crumpetdisappointment · 12/02/2023 10:54

perhaps she thought the owner was on her way

Thighlengthboots · 12/02/2023 10:54

I dont think she went in the water. The water was very slow moving so even if she did fall in- her body would have been found by now. Diving expert on the channel 5 documentary stated that a you'd need a virtual tidal wave to carry a body that quickly down the stream and out where its not visible any more.

Personally, I think she was taken just as she was ending the teams call. She was likely distracted by the teams call, as we would all be in that scenario and just as she ended it at 9.33 I suspect she was abducted/attacked by someone. Hence, not logging out fully of the teams call. Then, her phone was found 3-5 mins later. 3-5 minutes is not long at all but in terms of someone going missing it is a VERY long time and a lot can happen in 3-5 mins if someone has a car or vehicle nearby. She had previously described that walk as "spooky" and I suspect that was indicative of some kind of intuition that she had not felt fully comfortable on that route for reasons that may be linked to her disappearance now.

But also on old pictures of him - so not a bruise.

Togoodtobeforgotten · 12/02/2023 10:55

There is an article in Lancs live apologies if it has already been posted as I have not read through all the posts. But they have new CCTV and a witness that has come forward to say 2 people were acting suspiciously.

dawngreen · 12/02/2023 10:55

She is the caravan owner, and was with her husband, She rents a caravan to them, and her parents. Yet she did not know her but her daughter did. The witness accounts change about them its confusing.
