Just been reading about this. How awful for her partner and children. Really hope she is found soon

The statistics are that around 50 women a year are killed by a current or former partner. Around 50,000 adult women are reported missing a year. Of course, the women killed are mostly not reported missing. But even if they all were, that is 1 in 1,000 missing women. Only 1 in 50 adults that go missing are escaping violence. However, 8 out of every 10 missing adults has diagnosed or undiagnosed mental health issues. That is far more likely than her partner being involved in some way.

Jesus is that true! 50000 women a year go missing. That’s a hell of a lot of women! Scary

This is a good forum to go to for facts only. Heavily moderated and misinformation seems to be squashed rapidly.

There are currently 39 pages to read through but much more facts based than what is going on in here.

Looking at distance from school to
where dog was found, it doesn't look like it would take an hour to walk. The dog could easily have went in the water and back out quickly been running about for best part of an hour and not felt sopping wet, one of mine is only soaked if in for a prolonged period. Dogs do tend to stay where owner was last, a case of a man who drowned at the beach and his dog sat overnight waiting on him. Sadly Id be leaning towards she's went in the water.

Not sure why my posts have been locked, I was posting to re-recommend a website another poster has talked about websleuts. It's a much better forum for facts.

For those questioning the depth of the river - it's not necessary the depth that's the danger but the temperature. In winter the water is bitterly cold. If you go into it, even only up to your ankles, the sudden shock of the cold can cause you to pass out. When you pass out and fall down you will then drown even in the shallowest water.
This is why you should never do things like open water swimming and ice plunging alone.
I read this river was only a couple of feet deep, easily enough to drown in and enough flow to carry a motionless weight along.
Desperately sad for this woman and her family though.

But if she fell in there would be marks in the bank. And even if it was deep there it's not a spot you try to kill yourself. It doesn't add up

Shitfather · 01/02/2023 02:44

Desperately sad. I’d been reading the thread about people who go missing without a trace just before this incident. I hope her family receive the answers they desperately need and that she’s safe somewhere.

It could have been an accident. She went in to grab the dog and fainted and the drowned

I’m a mod on a community page, and in our case (not this one) the essential people knew but the family asked for complete privacy.

there was enough people and resources to do the job at hand.

Locally this information was out in public way before now. I live in Lancashire and this information was put out not long after she disappeared. The news just spread nationally as the search continued.

FormerGossip · 01/02/2023 05:32

Why are people fighting on this thread? Can we not show a little respect for the woman's family who must be in agony?

I noticed the police comment about not looking at it as a crime which I took to mean they think she had chosen to disappear. Definitely not that they suspect foul play by her partner or anyone else. Sometimes missing changes to crime, but for now it appears they have reason to believe she was vulnerable. We can't know her state of mind or what was going on for her but whatever the situation it is extremely sad.

Presumably because web sleuths is nothing more than mindless speculation.

Re the manager telling the media she was on a teams call at the time, tbh it sounds as if he either wanted to be in the limelight and have his voice heard so to speak, or wanted to paint the picture that she was engaged at the time of her disappearance.

TBH her being on a teams call is irrelevant. If she was on a call with no camera and muted, then it’s entirely possible she dialled into the meeting, put her phone down somewhere, and walked away.I’d imagine a lot of people do exactly that.

Equally, the fact that the dog was found, people say it makes no sense to have left her dog, however if she wanted to disappear then she might equally have taken the dog for his walk, and then left him out there. After all, if she wanted to disappear then she did so in the knowledge her children were left behind, if she could do that to her children, then she could presumably do that to her dog. And walking the dog would have given her ample opportunity to disappear before the alarm was raised.

It would only have happened once she didn’t come back from her walk, and once she didn’t materialise after the teams meeting which she might have just created the illusion of being in.

Bluekerfuffle · 01/02/2023 00:38

I feel sorry for partners in these scenarios because they are always under suspicion and every time have people openly accusing them with no basis.

I think the police will be exploring all possibilities. You can bet they have established where the partner was at the time she went missing. It would be naive to ignore that possibility given the stats.

i hope it wasn’t. I hope she comes back after needing to get away.

i agree it’s a shame for the partners or men in the world who come under suspicion but it happens too much to ignore.

I saw this on the news earlier. I don't understand how this is the first we're hearing of it when she went missing on Friday. Her poor family.

It was reported locally on the same day it happened. I hope she’s found safe and well.

1AngelicFruitCake · 01/02/2023 06:29

The poor family. Let’s hope they have news soon.

They may be reporting publically that they’r treating this as a missing person enquiry in the hope that a suspected third party will get complacent and slip up.

Possibly more likely that the police are aware of the mental health of people who go missing rather than playing mind games

If it's true that the keys were on the dogs collar tthats not a usual thing to do imo

GoodnightJude1 · 01/02/2023 06:42

Thoughts are with her family and praying she is found safe and well. So very, very sad 😞

ShelvesFromIk · 01/02/2023 07:09

Very disturbing case. The location of the bench where her phone was found looks very isolated with the wooded area behind. I would not feel safe sitting there by myself.

I hope there will be a happy ending even though it seems unlikely. Could she have met with someone? It's very long dog walk to do by yourself.

Lots of my dog walking clothes don’t have pockets (active wear) so putting the keys on the collar isn’t that strange. Easier than having to carry them in your hand.

Do we know how long the walk was? How far was she from her car. Do we know if she dropped the children to school or not beforehand.

Zanatdy · 01/02/2023 07:23

I do think unlikely she’d have chosen to disappear just like that, leaving her beloved dog (assumption she loves the dog). As others have said why not leave the dog at home. I often dial into teams calls when out and about, so I think that’s not that relevant to the story. It does sound like it’s not an attack, but guess the police don’t know for sure

ShelvesFromIk · 01/02/2023 07:31

@TintyMinty it's reported she dropped off her kids at school parked her car by the school and walked her dog for an hour or so. Very strange that the house they are searching is on the other side of the river. It must be a total nightmare for the family and community. They say her phone was still dialled into the teams meeting but was the meeting still ongoing when the phone was found?

TintyMinty · 01/02/2023 07:34

So the options are:

An accident
An abduction
Suicide

Choice to disappear

Yes, it is. Overall, 170,000 people are reported missing each year. In round terms, 70,000 children, 50,000 men and 50,000 women. However, I must own up to a miscalculation. Around 75-100 women a year are killed by a current or former partner. The rest of my figures are correct.

TintyMinty · 01/02/2023 07:37

Do we know how far the bench was in relation to her car - eg was she half way round her 1hr walk or at the end of it?
