Just announced on sky news..

OP posts:
Wisteria · 24/01/2008 11:17

if he was gay, it wouldn't have been career suicide anyway would it? More likely to improve his fan base (if that were possible).

ruty · 24/01/2008 11:29

aren't there rumours about every single Hollywood actor being gay? Seems unlikely but who cares anyway.

ghosty · 24/01/2008 12:15

There was an interview on Aussie radio tonight with the religious group who are planning to picket his funeral.
The woman who being interviewed (some elder in this church) was clearly completely barking mad and needs help. Nutters

newyorkdolls · 24/01/2008 12:34

Bottom line, none of this crap about drugs/suicide/is he or is he not gay matters, the only thing that matters is a two year old girl has lost her daddy.

But, I read on tmz that the rolled up $20 came up clean for drugs, and all the pill bottles were hardly used. What ever you read about his death is always a complete contradiction to the last thing you have read anyway.

Wisteria · 24/01/2008 12:37

I read the same article, also that he had pneumonia - I think it sounds like an accident/ natural.

expatinscotland · 24/01/2008 12:48

No one will know till they get those toxicology reports back from teh post-mortem.

Everything else is just rumour.

The police did report officially that six different types of prescription drugs were found in the apartment, and that three of those drugs were prescribed in Europe, where Ledger was filming last week.

Ambien, however, is a sleeping tablet that to my knowledge is not prescribed in the UK - because I have some, prescribed by a US doctor, and when I told my doctor about them he asked to see the bottle because he did not know what drug this way.

Sleeping tablets are not necessarily incompatible with anti-anxiety drugs, I've been prescribed and taken both in tandem.

But he may have intentionally or unintentionally combined them to fatal effect.

However, where there is no clear evidence of suicide, and no evidence of foul play, then normally the coroner is bound by law to record a verdict of accidental death, as happened in the case of Anna Nicole Smith, although it's entirely probably she committed suicide.

Ditto Marilyn Monroe.

But with no clear evidence of this, then the death is almost always ruled accidental.

cushioncover · 24/01/2008 13:06

Too much speculation. We should wait for the toxicology. Nothing changes the fact that parents have lost a son and a little girl has lost her Daddy.
How long before we see suggestions that it was Prince Phillip?

expatinscotland · 24/01/2008 13:10

Exactly, cushion.

They'll be very, very thorough in those tests, you can bet on that.

My guess, however, is that the death will be ruled accidental. Hope so, for his family's sake.

Poor man! Poor family!

binkleandflip · 24/01/2008 16:15

I am still a bit in shock and mortified by this. So many people are. I suppose that's a testament to how well thought of as an actor he was. As for the Westboro freaks - I cant think of words to describe how vicious I actually feel towards them right now

Vacua · 24/01/2008 16:51

ambien is prescribed in the UK, it's called zolpidem

expatinscotland · 24/01/2008 16:54

I figured it was.

In the US, they don't usually prescribe barbituates first line.

It's usually Ambien or Lunesta.

But he had been in the UK the week before and had some prescriptions from there.

Now that's not to say he used them, until the test results are in it's all just speculation.

Still very sad, however.

SaltireOShanter · 24/01/2008 17:18

Zolpidem isn't supposed to be used by people who have respiratory problems, and if he did, as reported, have pneumonia, well i would say it's a respiratory problem.

Earlybird · 24/01/2008 17:29

Reports now in the USA that the masseuse didn't call emergency services for 45 minutes. Who knows if he could have been revived if he had been given medical attention earlier.

All the specualtion of suicide/accident is pointless tbh, I had a friend who died of an overdose, due to an asthma attack caused by the OD, no-one knows if he meant to kill himself, we never will, the fact that he is dead is enough.

Grouchyoscar · 24/01/2008 17:55

I agree VS, Does it matter how and why he died? He's gone and any knowledge about it will not bring him back to those who mourn him and will miss him.

Being alive can be a curse if you're sensitive.

Buckets · 26/01/2008 18:25

Same drugs as Chris Benoit was on, the wrestler who killed his wife, son and self last year .
I adored Heath Ledger, poor guy.

binkleandflip · 26/01/2008 21:06

still cant get my head round this and dont really know why. There are lots of young film stars who could pass away tomorrow and I wouldnt really give it another thought tbh but this just feels so awful that a life can be snuffed out so easily

Probably all the more shocking in that he was never in the news for strange or dangerous behaviour - just a complete shock out of the blue.

Shaniece · 27/01/2008 17:14

What drugs did he take? Anyone know? I know sleeping pills was one, but what else?

expatinscotland · 27/01/2008 17:22

No one will know until the full report comes back. All they know are the prescription drugs that were found in the apartment, but no telling if he took any of those.

3Ddonut · 27/01/2008 17:25

I know what you mean binkle, some people's deaths just really affect you, I still can't believe that the rally drivers Richard Burns and Colin Macrae are gone having seen them 'battle it out' on more than one occassion. I am comforted by the fact that we are so sad about it, it shows what an impact they made on us, how good they were at what they do and that they will be remembered.

krazykoolkazza · 28/01/2008 14:39

I watched Brokeback Mountain three times - he was gorgeous. Such a tragedy for his poor family to have to bear. I've not heard anyone have a bad word to say about him.

At least he'll always stay gorgeous in peoples memories.

yummylittlelapin · 01/02/2008 21:24

Michelle Williams released a really touching statement today:

"Please respect our need to grieve privately. My heart is broken. I am the mother of the most tender-hearted, high-spirited, beautiful little girl who is the spitting image of her father. All that I can cling to is his presence inside her that reveals itself every day. His family and I watch Matilda as she whispers to trees, hugs animals, and takes steps two at a time, and we know that he is with us still. She will be brought up with the best memories of him."

Poor beautiful little girl

sophiewd · 01/02/2008 21:36

Had a long chat with a friend last week who as a stuntman/horseman was working on his last film. he said that he was the nicest, most preofessional and hardworking actor he had probably ever worked with and was deeply shocked at what had happened on their break.
