Greece rape case - dad suspected

has anyone been following this?

The daughter is adamant it wasn’t her dad and I’m inclined to believe her, but so many things are odd:

  • The CCTV is awful to watch - her dad is acting oddly.
  • why isn’t the DNA test back yet
  • why hasn’t she done a pregnancy test
  • who leaves 4 kids at home to go clubbing with their dad in Malia.

What sort of culture is this seen as normal ?

I was just about to ask this. What culture could that possibly be?

It’s all so so weird. Seeing things like this really reminds you how many truly vulnerable people there are out there. It’s like there’s the world I live in with my kids then another parallel world where it’s just horrible and awful. I hope they get to the bottom of things and I hope so much that someone helps this woman.

DrManhattan · 01/07/2022 09:29

Poor girl. The staff in that bar should have put her in a taxi but reckon they are probably too used to people carrying on like this.

redwaterbottle · 01/07/2022 09:34

The video really shocked me. I know they were off drunk but the behaviour was weird and crossed a line. Even the bar person was looking at them thinking wtf. I sing understand why she wasn't offered the MAP and why has she not taken a pregnancy test. Where did her dad go after they left the bar and was he in bed when she returned?

CallOnMe · 01/07/2022 09:43

After watching the video it’s hard to tell if it’s inappropriate or he’s just so drunk himself and he’s trying to help her go home.

But the bar tender staring at them could surely explain if it looked inappropriate as she had a better view.

What I do think is odd is why you would tell the media that you think you might be pregnant with the rapists baby.

She knows by saying this that she has ‘proof’ he didn’t rape her - Either he’s innocent and she’s just trying to find any way to get him out or she knows it was him as is trying to get him off.

I feel she’s either going to ‘lose’ the non existent baby or she’ll try and get pregnant by someone else.

Do they not have any CCTV of anywhere near the alleyway or the hotel where the dad was staying?

As surely you could see who was in the area at that time and where the dad was at that time.

Runningnewbie · 01/07/2022 09:54

The CCTV is grim

Luidaeg · 01/07/2022 10:02

There is something very off about his behaviour

wonderstuff · 01/07/2022 10:04

The whole thing is really really strange. Feel really sorry for her and her kids. I’m not sure it’s ethical of the DM to publish her story, not really in public interest and if he is found guilty really not good for her to have lost anonymity. Her father now all over the internet too, and if he’s innocent still looks really suspicious. Seems like lose-lose for the family.
No other paper has mentioned her having children.

FreeRangeFloozy · 01/07/2022 10:18

She needs to be looked after. She shouldn’t have waived her anonymity and frankly, she shouldn’t be drinking unsupervised. Both of them are appallingly drink in the CCTV clip. It is grotesque. Why do people do this to themselves. They can’t stand unassisted but they down another shot? My god the binge culture is an ugly busing. And it only breeds trouble.

Neither of them will have a clear recollection of what happened because they are drunk almost to the point of unconsciousness.

Very disturbing. I really hope someone in her life will persuade her to return to England and get the help she so clearly needs.

FreeRangeFloozy · 01/07/2022 10:21

She hasn’t taken a pregnancy test because she is suffering terrible panic attacks and is too frightened to leave her apartment.

Which is understandable but doesn't explain why it hasn't been possible for a test to be taken to her apartment

Exactly. If food can be brought in to her then why not a pregnancy test?

Kanaloa · 01/07/2022 11:05

Or why she would announce that she’s ‘60% sure’ she’s pregnant when she knows she can’t/won’t access a test at this time. It’s a bit odd.

Kanaloa · 01/07/2022 11:08

She did say she has sisters though - I hope one of them or another relative can help her somehow. She seems really very vulnerable and like she needs some help quickly. Even if her story of events is true it’s still not wonderful. After an argument, Dad went back to the hotel to sleep and left her so drunk she passed out in a lane and was raped by a stranger in an incident she can’t even recall because she was blackout drunk. That’s still not healthy and (to me anyway) is the sign of an extremely vulnerable person.

I know that loads consider it a ‘laugh’ but I think even drinking to this level (falling all over the place, sleeping outside, can’t remember anything) is worrying and if I was one of her sisters I’d be so concerned and worried for her.

CallOnMe · 01/07/2022 11:21

She hasn’t taken a pregnancy test because she is suffering terrible panic attacks and is too frightened to leave her apartment.

Yet she’s happy to speak to multiple media outlets and have her face and name etc released to the entire world?

It just doesn’t make sense.

A pregnancy test can be done from home in literally 2 minutes.
I don’t think she thinks she’s pregnant at all.

CallOnMe · 01/07/2022 11:29

I agree but I have been like this before when I was younger.
One minute you’re fine and just feel slightly tipsy then all of a sudden it catches up on you and you’re wasted.
Obviously I’ve learnt from my mistakes but it can happen.

However, I’m wondering if in this case her/they were spiked which would explain how she fell asleep and couldn’t remember much.
Many people would phone the police as soon as it happened but she went to sleep and phoned them a few hours later.
Although her biting her dads hand is odd and maybe sounds like this is a common thing.

Does it say where he was?
Did he go home before her?
Surely you walk back home together unless he gave up trying.

Kanaloa · 01/07/2022 11:33

Yes I agree it can sneak up in people - I don’t drink at all! But I more meant the attitude around it. For me my attitude to ending up blackout drunk would be ‘oh my gosh I can’t believe that happened. I need to control my drinking so that never happens again.’ But you see it a lot on mumsnet where someone will come on and ‘lament’ their awful behaviour while drunk and it’s a chorus of ‘never mind op! We’ve all been there! Oh my god that’s so funny!’ When in fact I think it’s an awful societal problem.

Not that I’m criticising this woman. Just noticing an issue I’ve seen overall. This odd attitude of ‘oh it happens to everyone.’ I think it should be treated more as a problem/issue.

Runningnewbie · 01/07/2022 12:39

It says she was downing shots for several hours, I really doubt she was spiked she was just absolutely pissed

DrManhattan · 01/07/2022 13:16

@Kanaloa totally agree

CallOnMe · 01/07/2022 13:19

I agree.

And especially in this case that’s what is surprising that she seems blasé about it. Like falling asleep and biting his hand and things which most people just wouldn’t ever do.

The entire thing is just so odd!

JustTheOneSwan · 01/07/2022 13:34

Keep in mind who is reporting this.
she's obviously distressed in a different country with no family and skint.
The Mail turn up with much needed cash, a friendly face and an agenda to get the most salacious story they can from a vulnerable woman with a chaotic background.

I find its more a case of not kicking the op when they are down, and most say "know your limits now and don't go there again"

How do you know she didn't approach the Daily Mail herself? She'd already waived her anonymity weeks ago. She was proclaiming her dad's innocence very loudly in the comments of news articles on Facebook. And she'd already shared most of the details from that article on her public Facebook page. She was probably very glad of the opportunity to sell her story.

And she has access to her father's savings and help from the British consulate. She's not skint or stranded in Crete. She ought to get a flight home and see her daughter, who was only returned to her care a couple of months ago after years apart.

JustTheOneSwan · 01/07/2022 14:11

@LAHallucinations she may well have approached them if I were to guess from the info available I'd say quite likely someone with very poor judgment.
doesn't mean the Mail should exploit her bad judgment though and doesn't mean we shouldn't keep in mind a real person is in a terrible situation and maybe reserve our judgment.

Because if she had approached the DM they would have crowed about it.
