This is absolutely awful. I know on MN we gather and giggle about parking CFs and diagrams but this is horrific.

The children were indoors at the time.

My DH and I looked at this estate to live on a few years ago. The victims' lives must have been hell.

Am I missing something? Can't see anything in that article about parking

When I read this in the news I thought about Mumsnet parking stories too. I feel so sorry for the children and the couple, must have been terrifying.

It made me think of all the parking threads on here. It also reminded me of a new build estate we were looking at. Two parking spaces per house (incl the huge 5 bed houses) and no visitor parking whatsoever. We told the agents we weren't interested because we didn't want to spend the next 10 years worrying about being blocked in or having nowhere to park. It's the kind of thing that just wears everyone down very quickly.

Absolutely shocking..poor children .horrendous.

CovidCorvid · 24/11/2021 12:46

Horrific. There’s an estate with a similar parking set up locally and no way would I buy a house there.

Our opposite neighbours are locked in a complete battle over many things, including parking. They were friends once upon a time apparently but fell out over a boundary fence and things escalated over the parking of a van. It's been years, things have been thrown, minor injuries sustained, insults hurled, CCTV put up, court cases, regular police visits and on and on and on. They're two retired households and two seemingly mild mannered families. But towards each other, they are utterly vitriolic. They've lost all sense of reason.

@DobbyTheHouseElk Colin Reeves is named and pictured in the second link from the Mirror.

Oh I hadn’t seen that report. He will be a marine not army. The base is in the same place.

RepentBirthingPersonFucker · 24/11/2021 13:06

I hope he is never released, he isn't fit to be out in society if he can't control himself
Heartbreaking

Peridot1 · 24/11/2021 13:13

A friend lives on that estate. The parking is a nightmare.

I can’t help thinking about the children. They must have been utterly terrified.

It’s just horrific.

PinkyPromises · 24/11/2021 13:25

@Peridot1 yes. One article stated the children were unharmed but 'distressed'. What an understatement.

My toddler got 'distressed' when he was given the wrong spoon.

Apologies. I meant to say military not just assume army.

Oh my post didn't go.

It was about the fact the children were reported as 'distressed' but unharmed Hmm

Distressed is how my toddler behaves when given the wrong spoon.

I couldn’t sleep last night thinking about those children. Reports say they are now with their Aunt. Heartbreaking.

All over parking. Unfortunately I can well believe how neighbour disputes can escalate. The police don’t really take it seriously.

PinkyPromises · 24/11/2021 13:58

It's not a big area so those children will always live with the locals knowing what's happened. Schools, workplaces etc.

I just can't get my head around it.

I rarely read the news, but it came up on Apple news when I was clicking on my magazine.

OP posts:
DobbyTheHouseElk · 24/11/2021 14:34

It was on the local news on Monday morning. I would imagine the children will get plenty of love and kindness from local people. They aren’t still at the house. They have been taken elsewhere.

They won't necessarily stay in that area, will they? They will presumably either go to other relatives who may not be local, or go into care.
PinkyPromises · 24/11/2021 15:41

Yes looks like they're with Mum's sister.

Hopefully they would remain with (stable) family rather than care Sad. Well I have no idea what's best for them actually so just can't imagine the hell they're living.

They will be having specialist support. They will be looked after. I would imagine the location will be secret due to media interest.

It’s not only the children, but the neighbours, the work colleagues, the students that were taught at the school he worked at. It’s so wide reaching.

Westfacing · 24/11/2021 17:07

Those poor, poor children.

Parking really does bring out the worst in people. A couple of years ago a women in north London was killed by her neighbour over a dispute over a shared drive.

Many years ago lived very near a tube station and before residents parking permits/controls were brought in, so there was always a scramble for space between residents and parking commuters. One couple had 3 cars and they used to choreograph things so when one drove off the other would move the remaining two cars a bit closer together to ensure that no one else could park there, then move them back when the other returned! Those of us with just one car were at the mercy of the three-car lot and the commuters.
