How bloody appalling. What makes it worse is that the judge is a women and said in court that the girl "probably agreed to have sex with the rapists". How can a 10 year old possibly consent to be raped?

that is so true suzy - it is really a complex issue with no quick fix.

Thanks for those links, eidsvold. The Australian of the Year one was particularly encouraging. She is so much more switched on than anyone in We Can Be Heroes/The Nominees! Ja'ime made me shudder.... (is it bad MN form to refer to something you know nobody else will get?)

slim22 · 14/12/2007 07:27

no idea who/what you talking about.....

So 9dragons, you are due soon aren't you?
Me halfway through. I just got a book on TCM and women's health. Any TCM wisdom you can share on pregnancy and birth or are you having traditional expat care?
I know nothing about TCM but would like to try acupuncture because suffering from bad pelvic girdle pain.

Very cringey-funny ABC comedy series about a number of twuntish people who had been nominated as Australian of the Year.

I am going for the full expat machine-that-goes-ping! hospital (before the socialists rugby-tackle me, it's a public/private partnership at which locals can deliver for US$1. Expats get private rooms and English-speaking medical staff, and their fees pay for the machines that everyone else gets to use too). A friend of mind swears that acupuncture got her ovaries ticking again at 44. Do make sure that the practitioner knows you're pregnant, as I believe there are certain points you have to avoid if that's the case. A lot of doctors in HK, China and Singapore are trained in both Western and TC medicine, so if you could find one of those in the UK that would be ideal.

eidsvold · 14/12/2007 09:42

that young lady who I linked too - was meeting andrew denton ( journalist - fab show) was real Australian of the Year for 2007.

her last paragraph is interesting

I saw the ads for that show and thought I would probably get wound up watching it and so gave it a miss. I do know what you are referring too though.

Am in Singapore!
My usual TCM massage place refuses any reflexology except when you are ready to burst and want them to help you pop.
There's a TCM public hospital here.
I'm going to give it try anyway.
Take care.

ninedragons · 14/12/2007 10:35

Lucky you! Both DH and I used to look down our noses at Singapore, but after our last visit we both looked at each other and thought damn it, this place is so user-friendly it's unbelievable.

Whether you find SG boring or enviable is a better indication of whether you're pregnant or not than any pink lines on a plastic stick.

Very true, Everybody is pg!
But you can also be pg AND bored here. And I've only been here 6 months!
The whole yummy mummy expat vibe is not really my cup of tea. I've lived in London & Amsterdam just before and miss the energy and variety & opinionated people.
But yes it is very easy to enjoy the perpetual holiday when you don't work.

Isn't it funny that the Aboriginal community share alcholism and drug dependence in common with the native American Indian community? Hmmm, let me think what else they have in common. Oh yes, that's right, their land was taken from them really quite recently, their people raped and murdered on a mass scale, and the surviving minorities were forced into small land parcels like animals in a zoo. I once spoke to a rather liberal nice American person who spoke of Native American Indians in terms of being useless because they were all drunks and criminals, with seemingly no idea of why some of them [because obviously not all of them are] might have become so.
I am not excusing horrible behaviour of these offenders. But as Elizabeth said white Australians are doing this too. If you really want to get the Aboriginal community to address its own problems, white Australians have an awful lot of changes to make in the country they took from them.
