Poor woman

40 lashes???

I love the calm quote from the Muslim teacher at the school:

"I was just impressed that she got them to vote"

These are 6-7 year-olds, they chose the alternative names and they voted for Muhammad (also the name of the most popular boy in the class apparently) and most of the parents are fine with it - just one fanatic took offence from the sound of it.

lol I agree Cote, it would be a thread hijack, and to be honest, it's my least favourite topic in the world.

Presidential pardon thanks to those 2 Muslim peers who went over.

Hooray.

I think she was very naive but from my experience (I know a few aid workers) they generally are fairly naive thats why they think they can "help" in these countries. I assume she was sent out by an agency or charity so I think they really should educate people they send out about the customs and religion of the country they are going to, thank goodness the news is a bit better for her today.

There is a 'release' thread here

Finally!

I'm not a Tory but I have always liked Sayeeda Warsi. I'd stick my neck out and say we could be looking at the Torys' first Muslim cabinet member of the future. Maybe even a future Foreign Secretary.

Yes, UQD, I was impressed by her on the Today prog this am.

Sounded v. down to earth (for a Tory!)
