I'm really feeling for that woman who held up the sign and caused the crash. I know she was too close but it was an accident and now they're threatening jail. I bet she's scared to death..

You do know one of the riders finished the ride with two broken arms, don't you?

OverByYer · 27/06/2021 22:34

She’s an idiot

Hellocatshome · 27/06/2021 22:35

Well she shouldn't have left the scene then as I'm sure they would have been more willing to be lenient if she actually showed some remorse rather than running away and hiding. What she did was a criminal offence in France you can't just run away from that.

OppsUpsSide · 27/06/2021 22:36

She was stupid but she wasn’t malicious

User3253465621 · 27/06/2021 22:37

Serves her right. It wasn't an accident because any normal person will realise the sign is far too wide and sticking into the road where cyclists are passing. It's akin to deciding to drive drunk and then seriously injuring or killing someone.

spanielstail · 27/06/2021 22:41

She's ruined someone's tour, could change their career. She injured countless people.

Any idiot knows not to hold something out in front of people cycling quickly towards you.

Inastatus · 27/06/2021 22:42

She’s a bloody reckless idiot. She stood out right in front of the riders. Yes she might not have meant it but that’s no consolation to all the injured bikers.

ICECream821 · 27/06/2021 22:42

Silly selfish idiot.

NotTheFunKindOfFeminist · 27/06/2021 22:43

She's a clown, but not a criminal.

I feel bad for the riders. I hope they can forgive her.

TheBobJog · 27/06/2021 22:47

She was an absolute tit. She wasn't even watching the bloody race. Personally, I don't care if they try to make an example of her, in an effort to dissuade others from being Absolute Tits in the future.

Topseyt · 27/06/2021 22:48

From what I could see she appeared to step out virtually in front of the peloton with that ridiculous placard.

She was a fool. I can't work up any sympathy.

AfterSchoolWorry · 27/06/2021 22:48

She's a moron. All she cared about was getting her gormless face on tv. I haven't one jot of sympathy for the stupid gobshite.

You can't go about in life like an irresponsible child oblivious to those around you. It was only luck that someone wasn't killed. One of the riders had his neck ridden over.

She ran off after the fact and so far hasn't turned herself in. The absolute selfishness is despicable.

Pamelaaaaa · 27/06/2021 22:49

She's a moron and deserves everything they throw at her when they find her!
I hope she is scared. The damage she caused riders, both physically and financially and for the impact this will have on some of them for the rest of their lives is devastating.
There are lots of crimes which are unintentional. Her actions had serious consequences and she needs to face the music.

FlibbertyGiblets · 27/06/2021 22:49

You just can't believe someone would be so unthinking. But there you go.
She will be made an example of, I expect. If they can find her, ofc.

Hellocatshome · 27/06/2021 22:51

She's a clown, but not a criminal under French law she is a criminal.

NotTheFunKindOfFeminist · 27/06/2021 22:53

What law has she broken?

Jubilate · 27/06/2021 22:53

I don't follow cycling, but is there not race marshals to stop this kind of thing happening? If something so seemingly innocuous can have such a huge impact, I'm not sure it's safe to have spectators in such close proximity.

Hellocatshome · 27/06/2021 22:55

According to French law it is "unintentional injuries by manifestly deliberate violation of an obligation of safety or prudence" which comes with a £13,000 fine or up to 1 year in prison.

Hellocatshome · 27/06/2021 22:56

Which basically means being a reckless idiot.

NotTheFunKindOfFeminist · 27/06/2021 22:57

I don't like witch hunts. The anxiety she must be feeling must be horrible.

She isn't a direct danger to the public so let her hand herself in when she's ready.

There are race marshals, but the route over 2000 miles long, they can't cordon off the whole thing.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 27/06/2021 22:58

There might be marshals but they can’t be everywhere at once and it would only take a moment for someone to step out or hold their sign out and cause the crash.

Hellocatshome · 27/06/2021 22:58

Thats brilliant, do you think the same should apply to all criminals?

The first stage of the Tour, when the accident happened, was 198km long. The whole race is around 3,380km in total. There's no way they can have marshals along the whole route.
OldScrappyAndHungry · 27/06/2021 22:58

What a bloody numpty! There’s been enough of these crashes caused by spectators for them to know exactly how dangerous it is!
