So do you think there are really people with children who have weekends in the country and then have lines of coke when the kids are in bed?

Because according to the Sunday Times there are.

They must be on a different planet to me though.

yes i do think that in fact I am amazed how rife drug taking is amongst some parents around here - and this is a so-called 'good, affluent' area

spannerbananna · 11/11/2007 20:24

Well I don't have weekends in the country.

But I do have the odd line of coke.

Eowyn · 11/11/2007 20:24

I've read this & never having been anywhere near drugs find it all a bit incomprehensible. Guess it's just me that's not kept up with the times etc. I can live with that.

Heathcliffscathy · 11/11/2007 20:24

yes i really do think there are these people. quite a lot of them.

TheBlonde · 11/11/2007 20:25

yes

Heathcliffscathy · 11/11/2007 20:26

are you equally shocked with people that get drunk after the kids are in bed? do you agree that that is so socially acceptable as to pass without any comment? what do you think is the difference?

not being snippy at all, genuine question.

brimfull · 11/11/2007 20:26

I have never even seen coke, but then I'm from a different generation I think.
I am 45 and it just wasn't a drug popular when I was young.

expatinscotland · 11/11/2007 20:27

'Because according to the Sunday Times there are.

They're in a galaxy far, far away from most of us, em.

And I wouldn't want to go there for all the money in the world, because being of Mexican extraction and having lived in S.America, it's more than abundantly clear to most people who've been here a while how I feel about cocaine use.

Well personally I feel that with children in the house there should be one adult around who would be able to drive them to A & E if necessary.

That's just me though.

Oh I read that

have to say, NOT a part of my lifestyle!

Don't get drunk either unless kids with a babysitter- what if one needed a trip to A&E or something? (have been tipsy mind- but never so much i couldnt get a taxi and be OK)

But haven't ever seen coke either, I did my fair share of aprtying etc as a youngster but I think I have a face like an undercover cop

agreed emkana, but in reality, many is the dinner party where there would be no one there under the limit enough to do that. is that equally 'other planet'? if not why not?

agree that people tend to be boring on drugs. same goes for alcohol though doesn't it?

emkana · 11/11/2007 20:29

I went out with this bloke in my young stupid days who dabbled in drugs.

The conversations he had with his mates about the relative qualities of this type of cannabis over that one was the mind-numbingly boring stuff I ever had the misfortune to listen to.

Yes. I have friends who do this. And a half brother. Sometimes we go away with them and it is all very nice, normal and child orientated until all the little ones are tucked up.

I am too chicken to do the coke though. I get worried by the loss of control that comes with two glasses of wine!

expatinscotland · 11/11/2007 20:30

mmm, curry.

artichokes · 11/11/2007 20:32

People who are stoned are boring. So are drunks IMO. A couple of lines of Coke can actually make a boring person a little more engaging.

emkana · 11/11/2007 20:32

I think it seems less weird to me because I can understand the process of buying a few bottles of wine in Tesco's, but I wouldn't have a clue where to get cocaine from.

Its not that big a deal to a lot of people I know. Many of my friends use drugs the same way that they use alcohol.

I don't take drugs very often these days, but will every now and then if I am offered some and I'm in the mood. I never get into a state that means I can't look after my dd (and I can't drive anyway so thats irrelevant to me), and will usually make sure she is being looked after elsewhere.

expatinscotland · 11/11/2007 20:35

the author sounds like a completely and utterly conceited, boring cow.
