I was watching the news last night re Kate McCanns requestioning by the Portuguese Police. I have updated on the events this morning and it appears she will be declared as a SUSPECT today. Im shocked about this, what do you all think? Surely she didnt have anything to do with it?

RIGHT.
A boy went missing in Greece some years ago. For a long time the police were trying to suggest that he had been accidentally killed by the uncle who they alleged had taken him out on a motorbike, had an accident and then disposed of the body as a cover up. Was subsequently found that they had wasted god knows how much time and caused so much sorrow barking up completely the wrong tree.

Personally, I think this is completely ridiculous and there is absolutely no chance that the McCann's did this.

Now, where's the cleaning talk gone. I was enjoying that. Suppose will potter off to another thread that doesn't make me feel sick like this one.

A tiny trace might be all that's left after a body/ upholstery has been washed?

mytwopenceworth · 07/09/2007 13:52

Something about kate having a 'window' of an hour, blood in the back of the car, a lot of speculation and the statement from the (angry with the police) sil that Kate is to be charged with Madeline's accidental death.

HorseyWoman · 07/09/2007 13:52

It's very sad cause not only will they be charged with accidental death (if it's all true and that is what is going to happen), but also, if it's like the UK in that respect, with perverting the course of justice (in a pretty big way!).

PSCMUM · 07/09/2007 13:52

if you think about it, how often do all our kids graze their knees etc, maybe tiny traces of blood get from their knees, to our jeans, we then get in the car, the blood transfers, and bingo, we're all suspects?! Blood can survive washing, and DNA can last years, even having been on clothes that have been dry cleaned or washed at hi temperatures. And i don't recall a child going missing in the UK for years who has not been found within days - I'm not saying its alwyas a happy ending, but at least the parents have closure.

HorseyWoman · 07/09/2007 13:53

But Horrice, the friends may genuinely have seen a man carrying a child. That man could have been Gerry. It was dark and you don't tend to recognise facial features from a distance like that.

morethanmum · 07/09/2007 13:53

BTW wasn't there a report of intercepted phone calls between the group that led police to believe that Maddy was dead? Just remembered reading that somewhere.

HorribleHorace · 07/09/2007 13:54

yes, that is true Horsey

HorseyWoman · 07/09/2007 13:54

That's true, PCSMUM, but for the police it's probably all a bit coincidental, and they will also be able to tell how fresh the blood is (depending when they tested it).

whiskeyandbeer · 07/09/2007 13:54

"And what about the man seen with a child on the night i question walking in the area in question - he has never come forward."

why would he? it would just result in his face and the kids face being splashed over the sun with some crass headline of "I did not kill "our maddie"..." and have sky news camped outside his house for two weeks with a constant "breaking news" of what suspicious things he's up to now.

PSCMUM · 07/09/2007 13:55

it couldn't have been Gerry as at the time that man was meant to have been seen Gerry was still in the restaurant. And remember when the Portuguese police released the descritpion of the man, they gave the wrong description and had to issue a corrected one a few days later. They're breathtakingly competent really.

Uki · 07/09/2007 13:55

AH BLOOD, BLEACH....

What about DINGOS ..that's what this is all reminding me of. The Azaria Chambilin case in Oz, where the mother went to jail, when actually a dingo took her baby. The only evidence they had was a blood stained jacket so it was used against the mother, wouldn't it be the worst posible thing to lose your baby and have to go to jail.

McEdam · 07/09/2007 13:55

Well said, Pooka.

There is nothing on the BBC website to say Kate McCann's sister in law said anything about Kate being charged. And the BBC are generaly more thorough than Sky or other channels, they have to get two sources for their stories so don't broadcast rumours as fact.

HorseyWoman · 07/09/2007 13:56

There was, morethanmum, and it's all culminated now.

nutcracker · 07/09/2007 13:56

A relative of Kate McCanns said that she has been warned by her legal team that she may well be charged later today. They didn't say that this is definate, just for her to expect it.

That was on ITV news by the way.

PSCMUM · 07/09/2007 13:56

well, if he had ntohing to hide, he could come forward, explain what he was doing, who the child was, and help with the investigation. If that was me, I'd come forward in a second.

noddyholder · 07/09/2007 13:58

The ensuing fund and campaign will be fraud if they did do it.

ScoobyDooooo · 07/09/2007 13:59
Sad
HorseyWoman · 07/09/2007 14:00

They say there was a length of time when Gerry was missing from the table and a length of time when she was missing, apart from when it was their turn to check the kids.... like a length of time when both (I think at separate times) were missing. And when Kate ran back to the restaraunt I thought I read Gerry wasn't there (may have misread). But she also left the twins there. If she thought there had been an intruder, why would she leave the twins. Oh who knows, none of us know what really happened. There are holes in all the stories. The time when that man was seen may have been guessed... anything.

forsale · 07/09/2007 14:01

there are holes in the reported story but then who knows anyway.

HorseyWoman · 07/09/2007 14:01

There are so many things that we as individuals would or would not do, that others in that situation do or don't do. Not everyone reacts the same way, just like with grieving. Some feel they may be framed, some don't realise it was them maybe..

NadineBaggott · 07/09/2007 14:02

I reckon they should send for Columbo

He always gets his man

LazyLinePainterJane · 07/09/2007 14:02

Nadine, I prefer Dr Mark Sloane

HorseyWoman · 07/09/2007 14:02

Don't forget that the secrecy laws in Portugal, mean that the police are unlikely to have told the media much and a lot of what we have read has not included vital clues that the police have, which have led to this today.

MrsMarvel · 07/09/2007 14:06

Just heard someone on R4 asking someone who has spoken to her (close friend I think) answer the question "so did she tell you that she thinks that they think she killed Madeleine?" and he answered yes.

How could they? Also, ten hours questioning is way too much. They'll never find the real murderer if they carry on like this.
