there aren't going to be pictures on bottles of alcohol are there.

My primary school had a glass case with some smokers lungs in it ... I was certainly never tempted to try a cigarette (but I'd have probably had too much sense anyway TBH).

I would have thought that a good deterrent image for young girls (lured by appetite suppression or 'cool' image) would be smoker's wrinked skin. Is there one like that - didn't seem to be in the pics in that link.

yes, or a mouth like a cats arse. A simple No thanks as a young teenager with a withering look at the pic on the pack would be quite effective

When it comes to discouraging children I'm not sure that anything really works. DH was apparently a real anti-smoking nazi as a child - used to hide his parents' fag and even throw them away. (They must have loved that ). And at age 17 he started smoking and has never really stopped. I also used to swear I'd never smoke after seeing all those horrible photos of diseased lungs etc... but I still did. Luckily I managed to give up.

I have never forgotten a picture I saw in a a newspaper in 1984. It was a baby with 2 cigarettes coming out of its head to show what could happen if you smoked when pregnant. (Obviously not literally.) Sometimes I see things that remind me of it and it gives me the shivers.

I think anything that puts people off smoking is a good thing. So the ban on it in public places is good, pictures are good, cessation clinics are good.

Alcohol is fine IN MODERATION, the same can't be said of fags.

But really I do just think they should make smoking illegal. They won't though because it's a lovely big earner in taxes.
