The big news story of the day "In tests, 9 out of 10 Brits prefer custard creams"

From the Guardian today:

"The custard cream has been voted Britain's favourite biscuit. Respondents placed it above the bourbon and shortbread when asked to name their tea-time treat of choice. More than nine out of 10 people plumped for the custard cream - 93% of the overall vote. Next in line was the bourbon, with just over 2% of the popular vote, while the cookie and ginger biscuit garnered the support of just 1.5% and 1.19% of respondents. The digestive received less than 1% of the vote. More than 7,000 people took part in the online poll organised by the wheat and gluten-free product maker Trufree. "

I'm sorry but I just don't believe it.

Why, what would you have thought?

Maybe the chocolate biscuit vote was split between hobnobs and choc digestives.

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/08/2007 17:10

I like a custard cream,me...also fond of plain spartan biscuits like Arrowroot

JeremyVile · 28/08/2007 17:10

Well - in this case I would agree that the custard cream is the best of a bad bunch.
Was this an online poll for the over 70s?

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/08/2007 17:10

don't care for hobnobs - and choc digestives must be plain choc

cornsilk · 28/08/2007 17:11

Custard creams are nice but they're not moreish. What about Jaffa Cakes?

EscapeFrom · 28/08/2007 17:11

No neither do I!

Not a chance will custard creams have been chosen over short bread.

Perhaps custard creams have the most memorable name?

franke · 28/08/2007 17:12

lol at choccie biccie vote being split. I'd personally go for a ginger biscuit or a Rich Tea (neither of which I'd expect to win) but I would have thought that shortbread might top custard (bleugh) creams.

jaffa cakes are not biscuits

JeremyVile · 28/08/2007 17:12

This morning I bought some Tesco chocolate butter biscuits (a rip off of the choc-liebniz(sp) ones.....Now thats a biscuit!

PenelopePissedup · 28/08/2007 17:13

I like custard creams, and so does dd and my mother's spoilt boxer...that's 3/3 (100%)

PenelopePissedup · 28/08/2007 17:13

anyhoo the best ones are those chocolate viennese ones (£1 a pack!)

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/08/2007 17:13

custard creams feel quite substantial though - if you're feeling a bit weedy

unknownrebelbang · 28/08/2007 17:14

Custard creams???

Not my preference.

This thread reminds me of two pints of lager, with Jonny and his biscuits, lol.

franke · 28/08/2007 17:14

Ooh Choco Leibnitz - now you're talking. I used to make my own version with Rich Tea and chocolate spread.

Absolute travesty. Custard Creams below average at best. Proper shortbread fingers, ginger crunch creams, jaffa cakes and don't even get me started on Sainsburys taste the difference cranberry and oat biscuits

cornsilk · 28/08/2007 17:14

Jaffa Cakes are biscuits!

DANCESwithDumbledore · 28/08/2007 17:15

Oh yes, if had to vote for a plain biscuit then ginger biscuit it would be.

FingerInTheMash · 28/08/2007 17:16

Jaffa cakes are cakes.

newlifenewname · 28/08/2007 17:16

Boasters every time

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/08/2007 17:16

I'd put my own shortbread tops, then those Viennese ones followed by a Rich Tea or Arrowroot in the plain category.

JeremyVile · 28/08/2007 17:17

MAS - Lol @ a custard cream being substantial, reminds me of MIL - when she has jam on her toast, she just has half a slice of bread as "the jam makes it too substantial for a whole slice"!

clumsymum · 28/08/2007 17:17

Did you know ..... Tescos have Jaffa Cakes on offer this week.

2 TRIPLE PACKS (thats 72 biscuits) for £2.

I daren't buy them when I went in on Sunday.

cornsilk · 28/08/2007 17:17

No way are Jaffa Cakes cakes.
Is shortbread bread?

DANCESwithDumbledore · 28/08/2007 17:18

Substantial is two chocolate digestives that have slightly melted in the biscuit tin and the chocolate tops have got stuck together meaning you are forced to eat two at the same time

clumsymum · 28/08/2007 17:18

JAFFA CAKES ARE SOLD IN THE BICUIT AISLE, NOT IN THE CAKE AISLE.

So there !!!!!!!!!
