Can't stop thinking about the truly awful incident that happened earlier today at the Tate. My thoughts are with the boy and his family, really hope his condition improves. Really what nightmares are made of.

I know. Usually pretty good at keeping a mental distance from news stories but this gave me a real wrench of fear.

Bertiemcgertie · 04/08/2019 21:47

I felt sick when I read this earlier. It's absolutely awful.

Right now, there is a family in the most horrendous distress sitting in ICU in London. I hope the boy improves soon. Shocking.

Must have been awful to have heard the Mum's screams. It's the stuff of nightmares and not easily forgotten by those who witnessed it.

TayoTheLittleBus · 04/08/2019 21:50

This is an absolutely bizarre story! Why why why would this even occur to someone?!

lostinthoughts · 04/08/2019 22:00

I keep thinking the same, that right now that poor family are going through the most horrendous hours of their lives. What a disgusting thing to do to someone so small and vulnerable

As above, I can usually manage to keep an emotional distance from, even horrific, things I read in the news. However this is really playing on my mind.
I keep going online to see if there's any update on the little boys condition. I have a 6yo son and the thought just makes me feel sick.
What on earth happened, what on earth went through that teenagers mind. The poor family, poor baby.

Mrsfrumble · 04/08/2019 23:06

Yeah, I’m another person who can’t distance myself emotionally and is really disturbed. We live in London, are Tate members and go there all the time. We did consider it today but it was heaving when we passed it so we headed on to Greenwich instead. I have a 6 year old and an 8 year old, and the idea that a random stranger (a teenager!) could do that to them is so chilling.

HennyPennyHorror · 05/08/2019 04:29

Tayo Mental illness usually. Or drug-induced paranoia. I am also finding it hard to put this out of my mind. Devastating. I keep looking for an update in the hope they will say the child is incredibly stable and will recover. It has happened in the past with huge falls.

ThePalehorse · 05/08/2019 04:44

Horrific...I've taken my dc's there many times. Must admit I was like WTF when I heard about. Hope the poor lad recovers well.

Monty27 · 05/08/2019 05:06

Omg. Tragic

I read about this story last night and it made my blood run cold. My DS is the same age and the thought is just horrific. That poor mum and the poor poor little boy. I've not read if there is any update yet.

HennyPennyHorror · 05/08/2019 05:23

I bet the MH card does get played in regards to the 17 year old but I call bollocks

Hmm Unless you know the perpetrator personally, this is a ridiculous thing to say and it's also offensive.

Monty27 · 05/08/2019 05:32

@HennyPennyHorror my heart lurched when I read that post too.
Like I said upthread it's tragic.
@Drogonssmile you should be ashamed of yourself Angry

Drogonssmile · 05/08/2019 05:34

@Monty27 why? What did I say? Sad

BikeRunSki · 05/08/2019 05:41

@Monty27, what did @Drogonssmile say? Did you tag the wrong poster?

HennyPennyHorror · 05/08/2019 05:46

Dragon pretty certain Monty meant Pandamodiums post. Don't worry Dragon there was nothing wrong with your post.

Kannet · 05/08/2019 05:52

It's truly horrible but it could still be a tragic accident. Hopefully the boy recovers.

HennyPennyHorror · 05/08/2019 05:53

Kannet around 10 members of the public restrained the teenager after he threw the boy over the balcony.

The teenager was a stranger to the family. It wasn't an accident.

GibbonLover · 05/08/2019 06:28

Do we actually know the full story yet? Any eyewitness reports?

Enclume · 05/08/2019 06:33

@Pandemonium may not have phrased the sentiment in the most delicate way, but it's not offensive IMO. If you follow the way such stories are reported (killings in public places), almost all killers are immediately described as mentally ill, troubled, brainwashed and so on. Many people do just kill because they enjoy killing, though.

Enclume · 05/08/2019 06:34

Apologies, I meant @Pandamodium.

HennyPennyHorror · 05/08/2019 06:43

Enclume isn't that a sort of mental illness?

Enclume · 05/08/2019 07:00

No.

Bloodybridget · 05/08/2019 07:02

The little boy's condition was described as "stable but critical" on BBC an hour ago. I would say only a severely disturbed individual could carry out such an attack, but of course it's pointless to speculate. Like other posters I go to Tate Modern often, have loved being on the viewing platform, and it does feel particularly horrible and personal to think of this happening there. All my hopes and thoughts with the child and his family.
