Can't stop thinking about the truly awful incident that happened earlier today at the Tate. My thoughts are with the boy and his family, really hope his condition improves. Really what nightmares are made of.

Yes stable, with broken arms, legs and spine! It is about time the idea of care in the community was rethought.

StarlingsInSummer · 06/08/2019 16:55

A bleed on the brain too. That poor little boy. I can’t get it out of my mind either.

Pandamodium · 06/08/2019 19:40

Mental health services (I'm just going off my area) are atrocious. When my DH (diagnosed schizophrenic) had a relapse earlier last year he didn't leave the house for 3 months, he was hearing things and seeing things.

He wasn't ill enough to be seen by the crisis team, the hospital he's been admitted to before twice or the local MH team who have CPN's.

Quite happy to name and shame them, Westpark hospital Darlington, St Aidan's house and the Goodall Centre both Bishop Auckland.

Pandamodium · 06/08/2019 19:52

Pressed send to soon, that was just an example. I've been hospitalised myself. To only leave a secure unit with 2 members of staff is unheard off.

The teenager must of been extremely high risk but someone (usually has to be a doctor) approved his trip out which ended in such tragedy.

It needs questioned how the hell this happened. Someone in that unit who signed off on this trip has blood on there hands.

slipperywhensparticus · 06/08/2019 20:02

I think people are very quick to say that it must have been done by someone who is mentally ill because the thought of a sane person doing this is chilling to say the least

I know this person is mentally ill but people were speculating before we knew

I was discussing this with my teen earlier I said I'm not one to lay blame but what the fuck was everyone thinking giving him a trip out to a busy place in the school holidays with just two carers? It took TEN to restrain him he shouldn't have been anywhere NEAR the place

DeRigueurMortis · 06/08/2019 22:02

I'm another who keeps thinking about it.

I can't imagine the horror the child and their parents experienced and the ongoing pain of dealing with what could be life changing injuries if (as should go without say I hope) the child survives.

My heart goes out to his family.

As for the perpetrator of the crime, I don't want to speculate. All that can be said is that someone is in a very dark place to commit an act such as this.

MrsTumbletap · 06/08/2019 22:45

It's just so shocking, so shocking. The story has really upset me and I have been watching the news for updates.

He is stable so hopefully will make a full recovery despite all the broken bones and the deep bleed on the brain.

I just keep thinking about how much pain the little chap must have been in and he must have been terrified, after falling, wondering where he was, why it happened and wanting his mum. It's so so awful.

Imagine being that mother, seeing your son getting thrown and rushing down to get to him, would she have been given access? How long would it have taken to get to him? It must have felt like hours that poor, poor woman. I can't even imagine. My son is 6 and I makes me feel complete dread. If that happened I don't think it would be able to cope. My heart is with that poor poor lady.

Cybergenesis · 06/08/2019 22:55

I only saw the headline, was the baby actually THROWN from the window? And why?

goldpendant · 06/08/2019 23:00

@MrsTumbletap you've said all the things I'm too scared to imagine for them, that vision will never ever leave her. The terror and pain the boy must have experienced. I hope they are being supported and that he makes a full recovery.

@Cybergenesis it wasn't a baby it was a 6yr old French boy on holiday. All reports suggest he was thrown, yes.

Monty27 · 07/08/2019 01:50

@slipperywhensparticus
Bring on the blame to politicians I say.
I hope the little one heals. Thoughts to the family Sad

Tonnerre · 19/08/2019 13:08

The little boy's state of health is still uncertain, unfortunately. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7370853/Parents-schoolboy-thrown-Tate-Modern-say-extent-injuries-unknown.html

Yabbers · 19/08/2019 14:13

almost all killers are immediately described as mentally ill, troubled, brainwashed and so on. Many people do just kill because they enjoy killing, though

Because killing another person on purpose isn't a sign of mental illness??

PandaTurtle · 02/10/2019 09:31

This is so sad. There appears to be a page to raise money for the family now:

www.gofundme.com/f/medical-funds-for-tate-tragedy

It seems he still can't eat, speak or move and is aware he can't. Poor little boy and his family.

staydazzling · 02/10/2019 14:31

hes been named cuz hes 18 now what a monster, the descriptions of the childs condition are very upsetting Sad

Basil90 · 02/10/2019 14:36

@Pandamodium what on earth are you talking about? It's in no way unusual for a patient at a secure unit to be escorted on leave on a 2:1 basis. Your comment is completely and utterly invalid. Before you try to dispute the fact, I'm a senior mental health nurse at a secure hospital

Pandamodium · 02/10/2019 14:46

@Basil90 that impresses me in zero way a senior MH nurse killed a patient last time I was in.

Why would a heroin addict escape out a window? Then why would (when said patient rings the bell to get back on the ward) give out methodone?

Same local trust isn't accepting new patients after 2 seventeen year old girls managed to commit suicide under senior nurses watch.

There's good nurses and nurses and the ones who shouldn't be allowed near vulnerable patients. Wonder which category your in?

You might be a senior Hmmnurse but you have zero idea from a patients perspective. I genuinely hope you never do.

Pandamodium · 02/10/2019 14:47

A senior nurse give out methodone that was supposed to say.
