Can't stop thinking about the truly awful incident that happened earlier today at the Tate. My thoughts are with the boy and his family, really hope his condition improves. Really what nightmares are made of.

A shame if this thread descends into a bunfight, no?

BlackstonesManual · 05/08/2019 18:27

I hope the boy makes full recovery. He's been on my mind since last night.
Have faith in the medical staff and that they're trying their best.
Recent Met Police update says the boy and his family were French nationals visiting London.

Sorry, didn't mean to post so many times! BlushSome problem with my internet connection and it kept re-trying!

fascinated · 05/08/2019 19:15

Bloody, was about to say the same. We are all emotional but it doesn’t help, eh?

Monty27 · 06/08/2019 03:21

I'm so very sorry @dragonsmile

BikeRunSki

@Monty27, what did @Drogonssmile say? Did you tag the wrong poster?

Clearly I did. I'm so sorry Flowers

FenellaMaxwell · 06/08/2019 03:26

It appears the boy does have schizophrenia, and was a resident of a secure unit. So unless you think he faked it so far in advance to ensure he had an alibi, you are very much in the wrong @Pandamodium Hmm

Monty27 · 06/08/2019 03:47

Only those with mental issues could do something like that? Everyone or anyone with any mental health issue/s?
Hmmmm
Shock

HennyPennyHorror · 06/08/2019 03:51

Panda is the world's only expert on mental health issues and assumes nobody else has experienced them first hand.

S1naidSucks · 06/08/2019 03:59

HennyPennyHorror are you backwards?

FFS Pandamodium Try thinking about that comment and what it means. You’re offended that some criminals pretend to be mentally ill, and I understand that, but please knock it off with the disability slurs. Do you actually realise how offensive that comment is, to parents of children with SNs?

Enclume · 06/08/2019 04:38

And yet another Mumsnet thread implodes because of people picking over one another's language.

Bryzoan · 06/08/2019 09:01

And so it should - referencing disability as insult cannot be normalised. If a racist term was used as an insult here that would absolutely and rightly be seen as not acceptable. This is no different.

Enclume · 06/08/2019 09:07

I'm not a fan of adults policing one another's words, but you do you.

Hoppinggreen · 06/08/2019 09:08

Reports this morning say the 17 year old was suffering from a mental illness and was taken for the Tate as an outing by 2 carers. However, being mentally ill and evil are not exclusive so maybe he was both? People DO also use their mental health problems as an excuse sometimes as well but as this individual lived in a secure unit it doesn’t sound like the case here.
Either way he was obviously a danger to the public so questions need to asked about how he was in a position to be able to do this

OpheliaTodd · 06/08/2019 10:27

Where the fuck were the two “carers” then?

HennyPennyHorror · 06/08/2019 10:31

Indeed ophelia where were they? I'm sure that's being asked right now.

Pandamodium · 06/08/2019 11:00

@S1naidSucks my son has chronic lung disease and my daughter ASD so yes I do understand being a parent of such a child very well. As Bi-polar and schizophrenia are common in both out families I have no idea what the future holds for my children.

@FenellaMaxwell my husband has paranoid schizophrenia I live with it daily. So reading the updates it appears he shouldn't have been let out the secure unit but MH support and funding is shite.

Last time I was sectioned a heroin addict escaped out the unit got his fix came back to the unit and got his usual dose of methode and died of an overdose.

My issue was whenever incidents such as this happens MH problems are always the first conclusion.

We now know the teen involved was mentally ill, we didn't when the story first broke.

@HennyPennyHorror I don't pretend to be an expert I just live with it. When I'm ill I hear my dead child talking to me it's fucking horrendous and I wouldn't wish it on any one even you.

Pandamodium · 06/08/2019 11:09

Oh and I'm a northerner "backwards" isn't a disability slur in our dialect it's just how I speak.

I take it back if it's offended anyone it wasn't my intention at all having disabled children myself.

HennyPennyHorror · 06/08/2019 12:53

Panda it sounds like you have had more than your fair share of troubles. Seriously bad. But I'm also a Northerner..I don't ever say "backward". Better not to.

Pandamodium · 06/08/2019 13:28

I've apologised for using it in a way that could offend anyone it wasn't meant maliciously and I certainly won't use the term anymore knowing it can be upsetting for people.

Having a MH disease or family member with one and all the stigma that comes with it, it's hard to hear that it's always the first conclusion people jump too. You can manage such diseases and still be a good person.

It has turned out in this case the teen has such a condition. I hope the teen gets some help I've had and seen psychosis first hand and it's indescribably horrible.

Just heard on the radio the little boy is now stable which is good to hear my heart goes out to his family.
