Can't stop thinking about the truly awful incident that happened earlier today at the Tate. My thoughts are with the boy and his family, really hope his condition improves. Really what nightmares are made of.

Maybe it's time to shut this viewing area? It's apparently caused no end of trouble even before this awful attack on an innocent boy.

MynameisJune · 05/08/2019 07:11

Horribly tragic I can’t imagine what his poor mum is going through.

There was a similar case in a mall in the States a few months ago. The little boy survived. The perpetrator blamed women rejecting him for his actions.

It's truly horrible but it could still be a tragic accident.

The railings are high, hard to see how this could be an accident.

Vanillelle · 05/08/2019 07:17

Many people do just kill because they enjoy killing, though.

No, they don't. Murder is rare, and murder where the motive is simply enjoyment of murder vanishingly so.

That said, it is frustrating to see how quickly people suggest mental illness in these situations. It may be that the perpetrator has a diagnosed mental illness which contributed to his actions, but we don't know that. In the meantime, claiming that it must be mental illness contributes to the prejudice and stigmatisation faced by many mentally ill people, the absolutely vast majority of whom are not violent and would never hurt anyone.

Mentally ill people are far more likely to be the victims of violent crime than the perpetrators.

WeeDangerousSpike · 05/08/2019 07:19

It's truly horrible. I can't stop thinking about it either. I hope with all my heart the little boy recovers.

I have a 2 Yr old, it would be so easy for someone to quickly pick her up or pull her hand from mine. I can't stop imagining it.

So quickly on the heels of the poor boy and his mum pushed from the train platform, it's genuinely made me scared of taking DD to crowded areas.

gingersausage · 05/08/2019 07:21

Playing the mental health card?? What do you actually mean by this @Pandamodium? Mental illness isn’t a fucking game, it’s a real thing, the same as any other illness.

Surely it would be better if a person who did something so awful was ill rather than just doing it for the hell of it.

Maybe people should stop speculating and knee jerking?

As with most people thoughts and prayers are with the child and his family.

orangeshoebox · 05/08/2019 07:32

fucking men
just last week someone pushed a little child in front of a train in germany. sadly that child died.

I hope this boy makes a full recovery.

Gwenhwyfar · 05/08/2019 07:35

"Enclume isn't that a sort of mental illness?

No."

Surely it's psychopathy, OK technically a personality disorder rather than a mental illness, but still...

Mesmermancer · 05/08/2019 10:17

Unless you know the perpetrator personally, this is a ridiculous thing to say and it's also offensive.

It's not offensive, I have a mental illness and it's offensive that whenever someone does anything bad it's always "oh maybe he was mentally ill". Yeah, maybe, or maybe he's just evil, some people are.

Mesmermancer · 05/08/2019 10:19

Some people do "play the mental health card" as in "oh, I couldn't help myself, I'm so sick" when in reality it's bullshit, and they aren't even ill or they are manipulating you. Does it even matter if he was sick? I'd want him locked up sick or not.

OpheliaTodd · 05/08/2019 10:24

Whatever caused the attacker to do this let’s hope he’s locked up forever. Fingers crossed for this poor little boy 🤞

OpheliaTodd · 05/08/2019 10:25

Absolutely. Sick or not he needs locking up forever.

saraclara · 05/08/2019 10:27

fucking men

Seriously? That's where your mind goes after something like this?

Sorry it said it wouldn't post. 🙈

Pandamodium · 05/08/2019 11:04

@HennyPennyHorror yeah offensive to those of us with bloody psychosis/schizophrenia/bi-polar/BPD.

I've one of the above as has my DH. Very open about it on here and RL and I have 3 DC. Every time a case like this happens and the perpetrator comes out as having such a condition our parenting probably comes under that bit extra scrutiny.

I don't give a shite about the perpetrator mentally ill (of which there is yet no proof) or not my thoughts are with that bairns family, I have a 6 year old and I just can't imagine what they are going through.

I'm with you all and posting because I can't get this of my mind today. Also have a 6yr old, also frequently visit Tate. We were on the treetops walk at Kew yesterday, makes me think about never letting go of DCs hands again. Chilling and distressing in the extreme. My thoughts are with the boy and his family who must be in a living hell.

Panda are you fucking joking?? It's offensive to suggest people who suffer from MH problems might be LYING and aren't ill at all! You need to relax. if you don't give a shite about the perpetrator, then why did you speculate about them "playing the mental health card"?? It was an ugly thing to say. I'm not answering your comments any longer though, you're obviously skewed in your opinions.
