Do you think it is a tad obscene to spend £100K on a champagne bar bill?

here

I am not a "I hate the rich type" (I love them ) but I don't know, just think what good you could do with £100K

a charity would faint at that sort of donation

instead it was pissed up the wall

shame

hmm

belgo · 25/07/2007 10:27

Not much of a businessman to waste such a huge amount of money.

Hulababy · 25/07/2007 10:31

Sounds like one heck of a night out!!!

His money to do what he wants with. Who knows...he might already donate to charities or good causes. This could be just a one off thing for some special occasion.

oliveoil · 25/07/2007 10:35

oh I know it is his money to do with as he pleases, good for him

but I just felt urrrghhhhhh when I read it

even if I was loaded I wouldn't waste money like that

OP posts:
Hulababy · 25/07/2007 10:36

Me neither. Mind you, if it was one of my friends paying the bill......

oliveoil · 25/07/2007 10:37

oh I don't like over the top displays of wealth [sniff]

OP posts:
whywhywhy · 25/07/2007 10:38

urgh oliveoil, agree it's grim. Like a sort of Roman orgy of wealth....'look how much I can waste' sort of thing....

oliveoil · 25/07/2007 10:40

yes

I feel the same about bags that cost £8K and pots of cream for £200

[shudder]

I agree with you OO. Even if I had it I couldn't bring myself to do that with it.

I'm a great beliver in people being allowed to do what they want with their money but that does make me feel a bit queasy.

I think sometimes those who have telephone numbers for bank balances lose touch with reality and the real value of 100K.

oliveoil · 25/07/2007 10:42

There was a good article in The Times on Saturday about people ripping perfectly good kitchens out so they could put a new one in, the waste and utter insanity of too much money

I feel all prim, I may have to have a lie down

OP posts:
compo · 25/07/2007 10:42

Maybe he's so minted though that is also gives 100k to charity as well

TinyGang · 25/07/2007 10:52

Those humungous weddings that celebs have (ie Liz Hurley) make me gasp too. Especially when it usually all ends in tears a year or so later.

whywhywhy · 25/07/2007 10:57

it makes me realise that what my mum always said about 'there are children starving in Africa you know' was right

only it applies to certain men in bars not kids at the dinner table...(unless they are Beckham type kids whose meals probably cost £100 per head)

I wouldn't be surprised if £100,000 is short change for him.

How do you know he is not a massive philanthropist?

We all have different "scales" - while it might be obscene to the majority of us, it may be "nothing" to him...

Doesn't worry me TBH, we don't know what else he does with his money....(probably a lot more than most of us do!)

paulaplumpbottom · 25/07/2007 15:02

I think its unfair to judge someone. What he does with his money is his business. We all do things that are wasteful and I'm sure there are people who could judge you just the same

Amazing waste of space these people are:

But Jacobi Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe will be laughing all the way to the bank - what an amazing name....

expatinscotland · 25/07/2007 15:06

I'm not really a club sort. Doesn't sound like a fun night at all to me.

paulaplumpbottom · 25/07/2007 15:09

I wonder how many of you went on holiday this year? How many of you have a nice car? Spent a little at Jo Malone?
