here

I am not a "I hate the rich type" (I love them ) but I don't know, just think what good you could do with £100K

a charity would faint at that sort of donation

instead it was pissed up the wall

shame

not really, his money can do what he wants.same way people were giving out about john terry and wayne rooney gambling about 30 grand a week, it wasn't even a 3rd of their paycheck so it wasn't a big deal to them. also it's a foreign businessman coming to your country and dropping a hundred grand of taxable cash.

Another good point Theman I bet he tipped some poor waitress good to

expatinscotland · 25/07/2007 15:14

PPB there's a BIG diff between the cost of that and bottles of booze.

C'mon.

I don't rate champers myself because I don't like chardonnay.

And a team of mules couldn't drag me into a wanky club like that.

paulaplumpbottom · 25/07/2007 15:15

Not really that money could also go to help feed the starving children of the world yet people choose to take that holiday or buy those new stilletos. Its no diffrent

in fairness it is exactly the same it's just relative to your disposable income.i'm assuming this is what he decides he can afford to spend on a night out (or he's an idiot) others decide what they decide they can spend. now just cause my night out might only be 70 euro doesn't change the fact that i could curtail it to 50 and give the other 20 a week to charity or not go out at all and donate it thus making the world a better place.

pointydog · 25/07/2007 15:31

yeah I do think it's a tad obscene. And precisely because of the relativity to an average joe's night out.

I could have not had my hol and not bought my stilettoes (not that I did buy any, mind) and handed over £1,100. Mr Dubai could forego one night on the town and hand over £100k. How is that a sound argument?

paulaplumpbottom · 25/07/2007 15:36

Its a perfectly sound argument, why should he give up ahis big night out if you won't give up your holiday?

pointydog · 25/07/2007 15:56

because Mr Wad could just tone down his one night out and have enough money left over to feed an orphanage for a year.

I could tone down my holiday by spending one week at the in-laws' caravan and have enough money to buy a few blankets.

so why don't you make this sacrifice rather than pampering yourself with a sun holiday?

DrNortherner · 25/07/2007 16:00

£30,000 on a bottle of champagne? WTF??

That is obscene. Don't acre what folk spoend their money on but why should a bottle cost £30,000 when you can get a lovely bottle for £40? But as long as some idiot will pay it the compnay will keep selling it.

Madness imo.

pointydog · 25/07/2007 16:01

I didn't pamper myself with a sun holiday, theman

pointydog · 25/07/2007 16:03

of course a few blankets would be something. What's your point, mal?

theman · 25/07/2007 16:05

so why do you think you should be allowed to spend you disposable income in a manner you see fit but not this man simply by virtue that his disposable income is more than yours?

paulaplumpbottom · 25/07/2007 16:07

Good Champagne for £40?????? Never.

Then why not buy the blankets. You are just as guilty as he is

pointydog · 25/07/2007 16:07

I don't think that. I have not said that. I do not mind in the slightest that he has lots of money and he splurges.

The question was, do you find it a tad obscene. My answer was yes.

It;s the argument about everyone being able to give money away just as easily that I had problems with

But it is just as easy. You could just as easily bought those blankets as he could have bought the food for a year

pointydog · 25/07/2007 16:09

Who's guilty?

He's not guilty. I don't care what he spends hi momney on.

pointydog · 25/07/2007 16:10

I give every month.

And I disagree. I do not think it's as 'easy' for me to give up the family holiday as it is for him (or anyone) to give up a couple of bottles of champers.

£100K on a champagne bar bill - how stupid and pointless. I have only read the thread title and OP. I don't care who it is or why - it's a stupid way to spend money.

paulaplumpbottom · 25/07/2007 16:13

He probably ( this is a guess of course) gives more to charity than you.
It is just as easy. Its all just relative.
