If you are against it - why are you?

i was just wondering that today wisteria - i do prefer roll ups, just about, but not sure about the radiation dose in normal tobacco. Are you sure?

UCM · 26/06/2007 16:20

Do you think they might ban chewing gum next, there is a bloody good argument for this That I would support!

mosschops30 · 26/06/2007 16:20

UCM i gave up for 4 months using the inhalator, then started again before i went on holiday (because of stress) now back off them using the inhalator.
Saying that even when i was a non-smoker I still smoked when I went out because that is the one time I really enjoy it, beer and a fag, cant beat it.

I guess youre still fagging it

My back yard's getting a bit cluttered! Shall we use this flowerpot as an ashtray.

I smoke rollies. I like them. I fully respect the fact that many others don't. I won't be giving up as a result of the ban in public places ... I will merely suck on straws instead.

As Peter Ustinov famously observed when questioned on his unhealthy habits .. 'there are few pleasures I would defer for an extra ten years in an old people's home.'

plummymummy · 26/06/2007 16:21

Yes roll-ups are less toxic. The chemicals used in filter cigarettes (which allow the cigarette to keep burning) contain carcinogenic properties.

Blu · 26/06/2007 16:21

I do think that pubs and clubs could have Wisteria's Tap Room. Personally, I'd rather that than smokers holding their cigarettes away from them and under my nose in a busy beer garden.

ruty · 26/06/2007 16:22

yeah, cos chewing gum gives you lung cancer.

Wisteria · 26/06/2007 16:23

Absolutely positive, that's why they go out if left and B&H/ Silk cut etc don't.

IcingOnTheCake · 26/06/2007 16:23

plummymummy, i imagine a very small percentage of people are wrongly convited and sent to prison. In cases like that, it's just very unfortunate. But prison is an enclosed place so should have the smoking ban like everywhere else. It doesn't kill you to give up smoking, i should know as i gave up.

plummymummy · 26/06/2007 16:23

No but it gives you ulcers

ruty · 26/06/2007 16:24

not fatal and not destined to give you a horrible painful death.

Wisteria · 26/06/2007 16:24

sorry xposting - too slow

mosschops30 · 26/06/2007 16:24

ruty if the government were doing this ban to prevent lung cancer they would ban the sale of cigarettes. Which they wont because they earn a mint from them which is why it smacks of a double standard.
Its about control, not saving lives!

ruty · 26/06/2007 16:24

ulcers i mean.

Wisteria · 26/06/2007 16:24

and it can make you fat which is just as dangerous for health and costly to the NHS

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 26/06/2007 16:25

i'm for it. but am also concerned. are there going to groups of people outside palces puffing away en masse. just a whiff of smoke can set dd1 asthma off if her chest is playing up.

ruty · 26/06/2007 16:25

i think it is about the rights of children and non smokers actually. [ruty farts in protest]
Wait until we get smell o vision on MN...

JoolsToo · 26/06/2007 16:25

for - the sooner the better

plummymummy · 26/06/2007 16:25

Enforced withdrawal does not make people give up. Prisons - like psych hospitals, should provide smoking rooms or outside space for people to smoke imo - the same rights the rest of the population has.

IcingOnTheCake · 26/06/2007 16:26

Giving up smoking only makes you fat if you over eat whilst giving up!

ruty · 26/06/2007 16:26

I'm all for enclosed, windowless smoking rooms.

ruty · 26/06/2007 16:27

sorry not windowless, just windows shut.

plummymummy · 26/06/2007 16:27

You are right ruty. Ulcers also coincide with excessive wind so monitor your farting

chopster · 26/06/2007 16:28

Doesn't seem to make a lot of difference though really. Pubs that have banned it, have all their smokers outside, so you either have to sit indoors or put up with it. Legoland now has designated smoking areas with pot things for butts and they absolutely reek. I'd like it banned in public altogether.

IcingOnTheCake · 26/06/2007 16:28

Um hello, it's prison. All your rights should be left at the front gate before you enter, after all, you ARE there because you have commited a crime. Or am i missing something?
