Possible sighting of Madeleine McCann in Malta

It has been reported that several British tourists have reported sightings of a girl resembling Madeleine in the Maltese resorts of Sliema and Valletta (which are fairly close to one another). A BBC report can be found here.

Why was a man whose first language was not English speaking to the child in the English language? If the man and the child were related, why did he call her 'little girl', rather than using her name? This sighting makes me extremely hopeful. Perhaps the police in Malta will be capable than those in Portugal.

had it been me I would have got as close as possible to look at her eyes.

Minniethemoocher · 22/06/2007 10:09

Yes, if that had been me, I would have tried to approach the girl, on the basis that it is better to appear foolish than to risk leaving her in the hands of her aductors...

Praying that it is Madeleine and that they can find her again...but I fear that with all the publicity about the sightings, that they wouldn't let her out in public again...

TaylorsMummy · 22/06/2007 12:34

i'm hoping this isn't just another false lead. the sightings all seem to be in different places and with different adults which is a bit odd. i'd be more hopeful if it was the same adult that had been seen, iyswim.

i still feel they didn't investigate that letter and the area mentioned in it, thoroughly enough tbh

me too, taylorsmummy

May I ask why the police are reporting this? If they are in Malta, surely this is being reported in Malta, therefore giving the "kidnapper" a headsup to leave?

Anoah · 22/06/2007 12:52

My thoughts exactly ELF1981. The people who took Madeleine will be glued to all of the same news channels that we are...hopefully they haven't just been given a heads up.

Judy1234 · 22/06/2007 13:45

News at 1 BBC apparently said - She has been seen at an undisclosed location news flash. May be nothing though

Nbg · 22/06/2007 13:47

Oh blimey.
I hope it is her.

She needs to be back home with her family now.

The bit about the wig is so creepy

I hope its a real lead this time.

When we were on holiday the other week loads of tourists were looking at us closely. Our dd has hair very similar to Madeleine and has a pink floppy hat like in the tennis ball picture. She's a lot younger than Madeleine though but my sil noticed people looking at her and us too. Once dh was struggling with her near a road ( he didn't want her to run into it) and she was crying and he felt loads of looks. Things like that could prompt people to reoprt a sighting that turns out to be false.
This sounds different to that though.

If it had of been me spying her, I expect my heart would have been racing, and my head would have been swimming.... sitting here at home, nice and calm I know what I would have done.... but have no idea how I would have reacted to actually thinking I had seen her.

I expect, and hope I would have acted something like this....told whoever I was with of my suspicions, have them check it out, try and get as near as poss to double check, if I had a mobile, I would have attempted to call emergency services - else grabbed a local and asked for assistance. I would like to think I would follow and check where they were going.....

but heck, as I say, all this from the safety and comfort of my own home.

I just continue to pray for her return, and hope upon hope that the sightings were the real thing.

The police are commenting on this because the "witness" went to the Sun on his return from holiday

princessmel · 22/06/2007 14:13

I feel the same wolfgirl. I was on the look out all the time in Spain. At the airport especially.

Wolfgirl · 22/06/2007 14:22

TaylorsMummy · 22/06/2007 14:23

iCod, if you're not interested, why bother even posting?

yep you have a right and others have a right too, so stop circling the skies waiting to swoop down preying on those who have an interest in this subject.

layman · 22/06/2007 15:00

I think she's alive and will be found. I see this as good news.

mumemma · 22/06/2007 16:50

Looks like yet another false alarm unfortunately.
