Couple die on same day in same hotel. How?

I just think this is awful. I can't link to it on this phone but it is in the news today. The couples poor daughter found her dad near death and he died still in the hotel room. Her mum died a few hours later.

Egyptian Authorites have called it a natural death of an old English man and his wife who they say died of "grief ". Which cannot be true and Thomas Cook are now moving all their guests from the hotel.

I have been to Egypt and the health and safety is much different to that in the UK but I find it shocking that this is potentially being covered up to save tourism. Other guests are saying they have suffered awful food poisoning and others suspect carbon monoxide. Either way I feel very sorry for the couple's daughter and hope she gets to the bottom of what happenned to her parents

one news report had the cause of death as 'heart failure'
well, everyone dies of that Confused it doesn't make sense.

my thoughts are with their poor daughter who is caught up in it on her holiday.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 24/08/2018 17:47

I wonder if they will repatriate the bodies for second autopsy. I wouldn't have a great deal of confidence in the findings of the Egyptian authorities on this.

iklboo · 24/08/2018 17:49

I wouldn't be surprised if it's found cause of death is carbon monoxide poisoning.

Needsleepneedsleep · 24/08/2018 17:51

Food poisoning, contaminated objects, CO2 poisoning, drugs....whatever has happened, it is very sad indeed.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 24/08/2018 17:52

What would cause carbon monoxide poisoning in a modern hotel in a hot country? There surely wouldn't be room heaters, would there? And the hot water would be some sort of centralised system not individual gas-fired heaters.

Anythingforacatslife · 24/08/2018 17:53

CO poisoning I would have thought.

witchofzog · 24/08/2018 18:09

I thought carbon monoxide too. But I am struggling to understand how in such a huge hotel complex

It could have been a self catering room with a gas hob. I know we stayed in a few dodgy looking ones when we were younger.

Anythingforacatslife · 24/08/2018 18:11

Maybe their aircon vent was closest to the source? And some other guests have reported being ill.

TroysMammy · 24/08/2018 18:13

Legionnaires?

GreenTulips · 24/08/2018 18:13

I couldn't believe a woman on the radio can moaning they had spent ages finding a hotel with X facilities and moaning the travel company were moving them to another hotel without first agreeing what facilities were available. Really selfish.

ShowerGel9 · 24/08/2018 18:19

My aunty died randomly whilst on holiday in Egyipt. She said she couldn't catch her breath and then fell to the ground and died. They never found out why.

NicoAndTheNiners · 24/08/2018 18:21

Seeing as tourism industry has been on it's arse for some time in Egypt I imagine the authorities will cover anything like carbon monoxide poisoning up if they can.

NicoAndTheNiners · 24/08/2018 18:23

I stayed in the aqua blu hotel on Shaam via Thomas cook and I was in a flat separate from the main hotel with some sort of boiler for hot water.

Redcrayons · 24/08/2018 18:27

Greentulips - I heard that on the radio as well Shock. Couldn’t believe that’s what she was complaining about.

witchofzog · 24/08/2018 19:44

Hurghada is the place Brits go now instead of Sharm. I imagine this is why they are trying to cover this up. They would come out of it better by showing humility, empathy for the family and by apologising for what has happenned. The woman in the couple worked for Thomas Cook but they are refusing to refund anyone booked in the hotel after 21st September.

And Shock at that selfish selfish woman. People have died and she is worried about the new hotel not having as many pools etc

Legionaires disease i bet. I hope they evacuate the hotel sharpish!

StealthPolarBear · 24/08/2018 22:34

I originally wondered about legionnaires disease but would that seem like a heart attack?

calpop · 24/08/2018 22:37

everyone technically dies from cardiac arrest. I think they're probably being disengenuous saying that to buy time/cover up. The poor daughter and grandkids

OliviaStabler · 24/08/2018 22:43

Very sad.

From the news I detected something more sinister, like they were targeted as they were from the UK. Deliberately killed.

calpop · 24/08/2018 22:46

it did aound very similar to what hapenned with the recent Novochok case in Salisbury but, surely not?!

NorthernLurker · 24/08/2018 22:48

I don't think legionnaires kills that quickly usuallly? Botulism can though.

Ohyesiam · 24/08/2018 22:49

Cal pop I’ve not seen cardiac arrest reported anywhere. Where did you hear that?

Urbanbeetler · 24/08/2018 22:52

I don’t think heart failure is the same as cardiac arrest. Isn’t heart failure when your lungs fill up with liquid?

It’s sounds deeply traumatic for the poor daughter. I wonder if they will try and investigate her? I hope she has support - she looked quite a young woman.

FiveStoryFire · 24/08/2018 22:58

It is possible to die of grief. Debbie Reynolds died the day after Carrie Fisher from this.
