don't trust him but don't trust the US either. The only reason we can trust the US is because they're on our side - god help us if they weren't.

I do think we set a bit of a double standard here - Iran/coreah/russia shouldn't have nucleor weapons but it's alright for us to have them?

Bush is scary in a different way, though. Scary in a sort of bumbling might-accidentally-push-the-big-red-button kind of way.

Putin is scary in a once-I'm-finished-with-you-I'll-come-after-your-family KGB kind of way.

I knew this thread would become Americas fault.

But, the big difference I see in this case is that America has said they want some defensive missiles to protect Europe against a missile attack, if one happs. And Putin has turned round and said he'll install attack missiles. Why doesn't Putin want Europe to have a denfense? Only one reason I can think of.

Well, Putin's not my favourite person either but I can see his point about having US missiles on his doorstep. I mean, after the huge fuss about the Cuban missiles in 61, you'd think the US would be a tad more sensitive. But then Dubya and co don't do sensitive. The reasoning behind the deployment doesn't stand up either, for the very reasons stated in the article.

I think Dobby would be horrifed to learn he was based on Putin. Putin's more Gollum material TBH - a slave to a old dark master and not above using odious methods.

I think it is really important to differentiate between defense missiles and attack missiles.

It's all posturing. I don't know who freaks me out more, tbh, Putin or Ahmadinejad. Prolly Mahmoud, actually.

Read the article. The US is talking defense. And Putin is talking attack and nuclear war.

Why oh why does Putin not want Europe to be able to DEFEND itself, unless of course he wants to maintain the option of attacking?
