Car crash outside Westminster

Now it's just happened as RG was outside reporting for GMB.

No one knows what happened or why and if it's suspicious or not.

But I think the fact the immediate reaction was for armed police, no one to approach the car until they arrived and a huge cordon was applied once they'd seen driver shows that we do in fact live in a time where the suspicion is always the worst rather than the best.

Thank goodness no one else other than the driver is involved.

There has been an arrest.

I saw this come live as it has happened, it’s quite scary. Even if it’s just an accident, it’s scary how we are living in a time where an accident would provoke so much attention but equally a fab job by our police force for being so quick!

Is it one arrest or several? When I left it was still unclear what happened after the AP arrived. No footage/clarity over how many people had arrived

BBC have just said they think a cyclist was hit by the car.

Armed police are always outside Westminster so they'll always be the ones to respond.

I've just read there have been injuries of pedestrians.

They aren't clear about what's happened still.

1 attest and some people are injured.

They are saying the lay by he went in isn't the usual route down the road.

They are increasing the size of the cordon.

Totally agree that the police response was amazing and as usual we are lucky to have our blue light workers who respond quickly with no thought to their own safety as primary concern.

Totally agree as well it's this response to what's possibly just an accident that shows the high alert we are on as a country.

Don’t disagree we’re on high alert as a country but when it’s right outside Parliament you’d expect this kind of response anyway.

Hope it's nothing sinister. Agree with previous poster though, we are high alert of course, but police have been watching these places for years and years. I once had a car accident in almost the same place! Police were there within seconds and that was in 1995!

I was thinking exactly the same thing.

Well that poor policeman who was stabbed to death didn’t have his arse covered did he Hen? And that was just outside Westminster. The police have learnt from that terrible incident.

Aren't the politicians in their 'holiday' recess from parliament? So, the armed police aren't there just for them especially at the moment.

No he didn’t, and he’s also not a politician which kind of proves my point! They don’t care who is in the line of fire as long as they’re protected in their fancy parliament!

The MPs aren’t there but it is a huge tourist draw and will have been plenty of them there, even at that time in the morning ( jet lag, getting ahead of the rest).

My point was that they’re happy to legislate to protect themselves, but not to legislate to combat the massive and deadly problem on their doorstep.

How you extrapolated that I want them assassinated from that is really quite remarkable.

Mexico is deflecting. People are dying, in London, on a scarily regular basis and every single cop I’ve seen talking about it blames cuts and lack of resources.

It’s not up to the U.K. government to deal with what’s happening in Mexico. It is up to them to stop 7 year olds being burned to death in their own home because of gang violence.
