It appears the children and teacher have been found alive.
Has a miracle happened ?
I am so delighted and hope they will be ok after their horrific ordeal.
It's always nice to see good news as lately all the headlines are of something bad having happened.
Please forgive me if there is already a thread on this topic.

Sending positive thoughts . Cliche ,but all I can do .

DamsonGin · 06/07/2018 18:01

Thank you for that article Pesty, it's given a great amount of hope.

peridito · 06/07/2018 18:04

It is going to take days to get them all out of course ,I hadn't thought of that .

Did the British divers leave their special equipment which allows communication ? Will the " next" boy and diver/s have to wait until a diver returns after the arrival of the exiting one ??? Or will those remaining get a signal to say it's ok ,you can set off now ?

Or will they set off with 2 boys and ? 2 ?4 divers at a time ?

Pupsiecola · 06/07/2018 18:10

Where are people reading about a delayed press conference?

Pupsiecola · 06/07/2018 18:10

Ah. Seen it.

peridito · 06/07/2018 18:11

Sorry ,just read link from Pesky .

Thank you for posting it .

Governor claims that the boys already learned to dive and that the plan is now being tested.
How the heck do you test a plan like that?

Saman Gunan was an ex-navy seal, a triathlete and an experienced cave diver who had dived with some of the European rescue team before. Not the sort of person to get it wrong.

It is highly probable there will be some more tragedy in this. They are putting in a heck of a lot of effort and media updates are not likely to help. Nobody is going to make the statement that so far they have moved x boys and only lost y. Sad

DD was very keen to be a professional diver until one of her friends died in a cave. We have been following the story because she is acquainted with a few of the divers and have family out there. The whole situation is terrifying and we wish them good luck.

Did you read this from Elon Musk?
"Maybe worth trying: insert a 1m diameter nylon tube (or shorter set of tubes for most difficult sections) through cave network & inflate with air like a bouncy castle. Should create an air tunnel underwater against cave roof & auto-conform to odd shapes like the 70cm hole.^"
^
Another potential option?!

Sammy900 · 06/07/2018 19:09

oh my gosh I cant cope with this....every morning and when I get home from work I am stalking for updates....So sad to hear a rescuer has died RIP as a hero. Although I am dreading hearing about it I really wish they would start saving them as time is of the essence but of course I know they are waiting for the safest option. Waiting for the press conference and feeling nervous about the rain coming tomorrow. Please please please let everyone make it out alive. I have faith that the best people in the world are working around the clock on this

Sammy900 · 06/07/2018 19:12

Wow the air tunnel under the water sounds like a brilliant idea....I wonder if they could be cocooned in individual air bubble type things? I have no expertise what so ever tho...I am sure they have considered so many options

Pupsiecola · 06/07/2018 19:41

Just thought about the title of that BBC update. The boys can walk. Does this mean they were so weak that they couldn't even do that? (Wouldn't be surprised) but surely they are not strong enough to get out. Just thinking about the pressure they must be feeling, especially those who can't do it yet. I know one of my boys would pick it up much quicker than the other.

AuntieStella · 06/07/2018 19:47

"if they could be cocooned in individual air bubble type things? "

Doubt it - even allowing for the boys being smaller/slighter, there's no spare space in the tightest part of the tunnel. And the consequences if one sprung a leak (rough walls, moving/chafing) don't bear thinking about.

The pressurised escape tunnel sounds an intriguing possibility.- presumably can be made tougher and wouid have less movementschafe. But has one ever been built anywhere ever before?

If not, how long wouid it take - not just to make a few the right size, but also to test them thoroughly?

Sammy900 · 06/07/2018 19:58

I know I know just clutching at straws and my naive mind is coming up with sci fi ideas..it's just so horrific

I hate to say this but I also wonder if they have a very very last resort plan to assist them to die in a way that isn't in terror ....going off one of the above posters comments about this and after watching news night the other night it's so morbid and doesn't bare thinking about but that Gent who was trapped in a cave and eventually saved in the UK in the 80's has said all he could think about at the time was how to end it.

But those boys and everyone involved have already come so far and will have been as psychologically protected as possibly can be in that situation. I really think they will be saved somehow - sorry for the negativity and daft suggestions. I just can't stop thinking about it....

Frazzled2207 · 06/07/2018 20:11

I reckon they're hoping they can pump enough water out while it's still dry but if the water level starts rising they'll have to start bringing them out somehow.
Someone from fifa said if they get out soon they'll be invited to the World Cup final. How lovely would that be.

AuntieStella · 06/07/2018 20:12

"The boys can walk. Does this mean they were so weak that they couldn't even do that?"

Possibly - three (two boys, and the coach who gave up his share of the food ) have been reported as very weak. Also, I've been finding US press reporting way mire informative than British, and I've just read an explanation that the %age of oxygen in the air in the cave has fallen to 16. 15 or less and physical activity becaime hard/impossible (like having altitude sickness). So being able to walk is (perhaps) also a proxy story for 'air quality is still ok'

DamsonGin · 06/07/2018 20:14

I wonder if they're getting the boys used to being under the water with a mask etc and getting used to the sensation of it all, just in the water by the ledge. That would lessen the chance of panicking, and maybe rather than actively swimming the might tow them out behind an adult. Being able to walk would be a good indicator of how strong they are but activitely swimming might be too much for them.

peridito · 06/07/2018 20:20

pesty no wonder your posts are so informative .

I am so sorry to hear about your daughter's friend .

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 07/07/2018 09:12

Lots of research to do then!

How do you all buy your cars? Cash? Finance? Lease?

We’ve only ever bought older cars (current one bought when it was 7, now 12years old) but I’d love something a bit newer.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 07/07/2018 09:13

Shit sorry wrong thread!

ChesterBelloc · 07/07/2018 09:14

At 8.10 on BBC Breakfast news it was stated that the coach had apologised to parents in a letter, for taking the boys into the cave.

The tone of the reporting was weirdly (inappropriately, imo) upbeat, despite stating that heavy rain was expected in the next 24 hours which would worsen the situation considerably.

NC4T · 07/07/2018 09:28

Can I ask if anyone has any insight as to why they aren't diving the route the boys walked to get in?

Pupsiecola · 07/07/2018 09:30

I read that when the Thai official did his press conference and was asked if it is possible that the boys will stay in the cave unil monsoon season is over he laughed. I find that wholly inappropriate. I can't find the video though.

Pupsiecola · 07/07/2018 09:33

NC the boys cannot swim, or dive. And until yesterday they were too weak to even walk. It is estimated that it will take them at least 5 hours (that's how long it's taken the experts to get back). It will be exhausting, scary and very dangerous. There are some really tight spots where the divers are having to remove their tanks and push them through.

I do wonder how hard it was to get through these spots on the way in. I mean the fact that they left their shoes and bags earlier on in the cave suggests there was a sense of urgency?
