It appears the children and teacher have been found alive.
Has a miracle happened ?
I am so delighted and hope they will be ok after their horrific ordeal.
It's always nice to see good news as lately all the headlines are of something bad having happened.
Please forgive me if there is already a thread on this topic.

BBC website has a dedicated page for live updates.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/44755093

But they 're often behind other sites as they try to get confirmation before reporting on numbers of boys rescued. They did get caught out yesterday with the '6 or 4' confusion, so are probably being even more careful today.

EdgeOf17 · 09/07/2018 13:09

I am finding the Guardian more informative - extract from 3 mins ago

Reuters and CNN report a seventh and eighth boy being rescued, citing witnesses. The Guardian is trying to confirm these reports.

keeping everything crossed

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 09/07/2018 13:29

My heart's in my mouth.

Now concerned about what will happen to the boys, and the coach, once the fuss dies down and the world's attention goes elsewhere. They will need long term support, I presume. You don't have an experience like that and not come out unscathed - is there a resource for them in Thailand to sort their emotional reactions to this?

TwitterQueen1 · 09/07/2018 13:32

CNN says operations halted for today after another 4 boys were rescued. So 4 boys plus coach remain.

ImpYCelyn · 09/07/2018 13:34

The guardian (like everyone else) is a bit all over the place. They reported a source saying the 7th had arrived at the hospital. A different source is saying 6th and 7th haven't even left the cave entrance yet. But hopefully 8 boys are no longer trapped and are somewhere on the way to hospital 😊

DamsonGin · 09/07/2018 13:44

Must be a big morale boost for the remaining boys to hear they've got the first ones out, in asking they'd tell them that anyway.

EmilyDickinson · 09/07/2018 13:52

They rescued 4 boys yesterday then had to replenish the oxygen cylinders and seem to be stopping today with another 3 boys out and 1 more on the way out.

I really feel for the 4 boys and their coach left in the cave to wait till they can safely take the next group out. I guess they'll replace the oxygen cylinders along the route and then start to take the last 4 boys out at first light tomorrow with the coach coming out the following day.

It must be hard for the last 4 boys and coach to wait another 1-2 days though knowing that all the boys who've left the cave have made it out so far must be encouraging. I hope that the rain holds off for long enough.

I saw on twitter that FIFA have invited the boys to the World Cup Final if they are well enough to attend.

Frazzled2207 · 09/07/2018 14:03

I'm finding the lack of concrete info coming out very frustrating, can't imagine what it must be like for the parents. They will have been sick with worry for two weeks and now most of them are out and they apparently don't know who.

DamsonGin · 09/07/2018 14:10

They'll have told the parents who's come out surely, have you read otherwise?

LadyLance · 09/07/2018 14:12

Guardian live updates here: www.theguardian.com/world/live/2018/jul/09/thai-cave-rescue-resumes-to-free-eight-boys-and-coach-still-trapped-latest-news

Possibly a bit late for today.

I can understand the Thai authorities not wanting a media circus around the cave entrance or in the rescuer's camp. All the divers will be working very physically hard to get the boys out and won't want media intrusion either.

I do think that they perhaps aren't used to the level of updates that the international news media expects but surely everyone should respect that media updates aren't their first priority now and information/reports may be a little confused at times.

It's a dynamic situation and plans may change and adapt depending on the conditions etc.

ImpYCelyn · 09/07/2018 14:12

Yes Damson the Thai authorities have said they're still discussing whether to give the names to the parents or not. They're concerned about the impact on the parents whose children are still stuck. Though with 8 out they might now change that.

DamsonGin · 09/07/2018 14:19

Wow, that's another hard decision and I guess I can see that from both angles. That must be very hard on the parents. I read too they weren't able to touch them or hug them till they had blood tests on water borne diseases, so that may tie in too.

QuinquiremeOfNineveh · 09/07/2018 14:25

And once the parents know, it will inevitably get out to the media, and while the parents may be protected some extent, extended family, neighbours, school friends etc would be besieged. And the families of those yet to be rescued would be asked 'how do you feel, knowing that these boys are safe while your son is still trapped?'

They seem to have done quite well so far in maintaining the boys' privacy, just releasing bits of information here and there. I hope that once they're all out, there'll be people to help them deal with the media, as well as all the other help they'll need.

NicoAndTheNiners · 09/07/2018 14:26

Guardian say that the rescue is now paused until tomorrow (I guess that’s tomorrow local time).

QuinquiremeOfNineveh · 09/07/2018 14:31

BBC says Thai Navy has confirmed four boys were brought out today.

MedusaBadHairDay · 09/07/2018 14:32

Maybe the extra ambulances are there for the divers should there be any problems? I don’t know if they’re using the same divers for the same jobs every day, but that would maybe explain why they’re doing a batch a day and everyone knows what they’re supposed to be doing when?

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 09/07/2018 16:08

I seriously thought they were all goners.

So uplifting.

Knitjob · 09/07/2018 16:13

I have always been a bit sceptical about meditation, but if it's managed to keep those boys calm in those circumstances maybe we should all try it. I honestly think I would lose my sanity, especially if I was one of the ones still waiting. I cannot even imagine how they are keeping calm in there. Assuming of course they are calm, we have no idea.

LanguidLobster · 09/07/2018 16:19

@vivarium oh god me too Blush

It's been incredible seeing such positive results

peridito · 09/07/2018 16:27

It's amazing to me that they survived the 9/10 days in the dark knowing nothing as well as they did .

Meditation has to have played a part .And their bond as a team and with their coach .

peridito · 09/07/2018 16:31

I'm thinking 4 out tomorrow and then on Wednesday the remainers - one from the team and the whoever it is staying there with them .

Is it aThai Navy seal and also a Thai Navy nurse ????Heroes whoever they are .

TheBiologicalWoman · 09/07/2018 16:46

I'm overjoyed to see them out. I just can't think of much else other than getting the rest out before I dare to smile fully.

I think about that last boy, all his friends already gone, and the coach left.

Thank you to those who are bravely helping these incredible young men. They are showing the best of humanity.

QuinquiremeOfNineveh · 09/07/2018 16:49

I think the expectation is that the coach will be last, as long as the medics don't think he needs to go sooner.

peridito · 09/07/2018 16:53

The divers must be so tired ,how can they rest their minds and bodies inbetween the rescues .?

How can they nerve themselves to do it all over again ?

TheBiologicalWoman · 09/07/2018 16:56

Sorry if it's been asked and for being dim, but is it the same few divers each time or new teams?

Just wondering if it is the same divers, whether having already taken the dangerous journey, if this helps them learn each time about best techniques etc. But if conditions and children are slightly different each time (i.e. more nervous child/more water) it might be impossible to say.
