It appears the children and teacher have been found alive.
Has a miracle happened ?
I am so delighted and hope they will be ok after their horrific ordeal.
It's always nice to see good news as lately all the headlines are of something bad having happened.
Please forgive me if there is already a thread on this topic.

It’s brilliant news! It wonderful to have a story with a great outcome, experts from all over the world going there to help. now the rescuers need to get them out safely.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 02/07/2018 20:20

Oh it's so fantastic. Now the hard work of getting them out, apparently they have to dive Sad

bluerunningshoes · 02/07/2018 20:23

such brilliant news.
I really hope that they get out safely and back to their families.

LegoBitcho · 02/07/2018 20:24

I read this, I'm so glad. And yes, I guess it's a miracle to survive 9 days underground and be found.

DaffoDeffo · 02/07/2018 20:26

I couldn't believe it when I saw the story. Fantastic news and well done to all those who worked tirelessly to get them out. I know the UK had sent some special teams there too.

CheshireSplat · 02/07/2018 20:26

What fantastic news!!! Smile

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 03/07/2018 06:53

I’ve just read the update on this this morning- they either need to learn to dive or wait months for the water to subside!!

I thought they were pumping the water out, it obviously wasn’t working. Poor lads!

So now they’re being given 4 months supply of food and taught to dive. This is a crazy story!

AuntieStella · 03/07/2018 07:00

It's an amazing and brilliant story.

It seems like a miracle for the boys, and the cave dive rescuers are amazing people.

It's still the monsoon season, and so pumping won't work as it could start raining again at any time. Heavy rain (quite possible! could make it impossible to reach them at all for a while - the dive is tricky and against the flow. So getting supplies to them, to keep them alive regardless of how long this could take is a first priority - especially as they have been days without food already.

Teaching them to dive (or rather to use breathing apparatus and to stay completely still as they are hauled along) might be the best option, as no-one will want to leave them down there until the rains are over.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 03/07/2018 07:06

I take it they are quite far in to the cave, I did read 2.5 miles but that seems imaginable!

ivykaty44 · 03/07/2018 07:13

They may not be able to leave the cave for many months due to the dangerous route in and out only achievable by experienced divers...

Poor lads but so glad they are all alive, such an emotional time for their parents

DamsonGin · 03/07/2018 08:16

I was so very glad to read this, but I've known cave divers and how risky it is, if it's a difficult route out, staying underground could be the best option. I'm sure they're thinking all this through. What a relief though!

eloisesparkle · 03/07/2018 08:31

I just read too that it may take months for them to get out. Sad
What an ordeal for them. How were their spirits kept up ? They must have despaired so often. How did they manage to stay together ? It's surprising one or two didn't try to escape to get help. Thankfully they stuck together.

What happens if the waters rise more? The ledge didn't seem that far from the water levels now.

Can't imagine being stuck in a cave for 4 months Sad

Mobydick100 · 03/07/2018 08:37

I really hope they find a way to get them out soon.

MargaretCavendish · 03/07/2018 08:56

Presumably their coach has done a fantastic job here, as, as you say, it's hard to imagine them surviving as well as they have without a lot of leadership from the one adult.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 03/07/2018 09:03

The coach is only a young ish man himself. 25 I think. I can’t decide if he’s a hero for keeping then alive or stupid for taking them there in the first place. I’ll err with hero for now!

peridito · 03/07/2018 09:31

What a moving story ,I cannot imagine being a diver in those conditions .
Not trying to be critical but I don't understand why the team entered the caves in the first place ,cool shady spot to rest ? Shelter from rain ? How were they far enough in to get cut off ?

Any ideas ?

DamsonGin · 03/07/2018 09:39

Possibly they went in where the coach knew but were forced to go further as the water rose. It might be there's more cave further but they stuck close to where they came in. So glad they stuck together.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 03/07/2018 09:40

They went for a day trip to the caves so presumably the parents knew and thought it would be safe. It's only the heavy rain that made it go horribly wrong.
Apparently part of the route out is very very narrow, so narrow that the divers have to take their oxygen off their backs before they can get through, how the hell can they guide a terrified kid through that?

Invisimamma · 03/07/2018 09:58

This is amazing they have all been found. I really hope they can keep them safe and get them out. Can’t imagine what they have gone through down there.

DamsonGin · 03/07/2018 11:49

This is quite a good update.

Sammy900 · 03/07/2018 14:41

Wow the craziest story in the news this year! They are so lucky to have been found and all alive. I feel claustrophobia just thinking about it....imagine all those days just sitting there in the dark not knowing if anyone was coming and not being tempted to dive in and try to escape ...or stopping others doing so. You would think your time was up!

and now the urgency and dilemma of how to get them out safely!! I wonder if they have told them or are trying to keep them calm. I really hope they can start the rescue soon before they have to stay in there for months!! Come on boys be brave!! Currently glued to updating the news feed on this.

Sammy900 · 03/07/2018 14:45

I also completely admire the rescue divers, I can't imagine how scary that is going into the unknown and putting their own lives at risk and thank god they didn't give up on the mission even after 9 days!

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 03/07/2018 16:02

I have so many questions about this. But for now, very happy the boys seem OK.
