This is a thread following the legal and ethical questions raised by the recent court case involving Charlie Gard.

Please could we refrain from insulting or otherwise "bashing" his parents. It isn't in the spirit of Mumsnet and will get the threads removed.

Please could we also remember that at the heart of this case is a terminally ill baby and his heartbroken parents. There are those participating in and watching this thread for whom these issues are painful. Please let's try and be mindful of them when we post. This isn't a place for name calling or trivialising the very real pain they feel. Many parents of severely disabled children are on here.

Thank you to everyone who has commented. We are grateful for what Charlie's parents have said earlier today, and agree wholeheartedly that any abuse of anybody involved in this case is unacceptable. This is a heart-breaking time for Charlie's loving parents when they should be given every support.

They are being very dignified and supportive, well done GOSH.

Been lurking- like others would like to thank you all for informative and interesting read. My heart goes out to C&C but I think the judge should not allow treatment and for his original ruling to be carried out immediately.
This may sound harsh but given the original ruling was in April and probably Charlie's current state had been in situ since January then they have had plenty of time to say good bye. How ever distressed they are, how can they think that keeping a non moving baby on a ventilator for over seven months a good idea. I read the original judgement and was shocked by evidence of a nurse who had spent 200 hours with Charlie and had never seen any change at all with his condition even when his parents were around

Shame, I thought that last statement would help but the new comments are still calling GOSH murderers.

What's that wretched pastor doing outside the court?? I thought he'd gone back to the USA??

Then again, most of his (multiple) GoFundMe pages seem to have fallen short of their targets, so maybe he's hoping for some more cash ...

Indeed, with some of them this interest appears to override all others

I'm just wondering now if, as is thought likely, the courts go in favour of palliative care and ultimately to turn of charlie's life support, would the parents then want to return to Court to get GOSH to allow him to return home to die?

I truly hope not. It would be like groundhog day with the whole sorry saga starting up again.

I just hope that C&C accept the decision on Tuesday and have some precious time with Charlie as he passes.

This was the post the CA admin posted to Facebook "thanking" the doctors which care for Charlie and conveniently listing their contact details (as they couldn't name names). CA then started bombarding the doctors with hate mail and sharing the names on the page. The post was up for a full day befor being taken down.

I would hope for the sake of the parents, that the late start Monday could indicate the order being upheld and in the morning before court, the judge hold a meeting with all to prepare the parents for the bad news and maybe suggest they stay at hospital and not attend court to spare them the agony of sitting through the court case any more. They have barristers etc but if it is already decided and no fresh evidence then I can't see why that can't happen.
On the other hand there may be fresh evidence.

I've tried to comment a few times and always ended up giving up as I just can't get my thoughts out. You have all put your thoughts into words much better than I could.
I share the opinion of the majority on here, which I didn't before reading these threads.

I shall be thinking of Charlie and his family over the coming days.

Did you give that to the police?

That it's publicly available is not relevant as no one knew who was looking after Charlie and was part of the team.

It's pretty much calling for people to harass them.

A poster above mentioned that they hope that C&C have someone who is trying to prepare them in some way for what is to come. I certainly hope so too, but I also wonder if they have pushed away anyone who attempted to make them see that things might not go their way and that they may want to make plans for that eventuality.

Have any of the grandparents made any sort of comments or statements? If not, perhaps that's why they are staying in the background quietly. To be able to step forward to be a voice of reason for acceptance of the court's decision.

Did Laura Gard post that on behalf of the parents?

I hope the Judge can do something like say that the date by which he wants his ruling carried out by (if that's what he decides) will be in his Ruling available tomorrow (ie Wed) so no one except GOSH and parents know, so it can be done privately.
