Hi guys new thread.

Let's try to keep this one as sensible and measured as the past 7 threads have been.

Please note the MNHQ comment on thread number 7.

"Hi everyone,

..... We had to remove several parent-blaming posts, so we'd like to ask folk not to do this. We think we can all agree that this is a truly awful time for all involved and we just wouldn't wish it on anyone. If there's anything we could do with more of, it's support. We'll continue to remove reported posts that break TGs (if we've missed something, do feel free to let us know).

If we have to make too many deletions, we will need to look at removing the thread; which is the last thing we wish to do.

Thanks all"

Starting now as 9 will fill up quickly.

@BlondieJ

Others without social media emailed [email protected] to "complain about the complaints" against GOSH and got nice responses back.

I thought infant mortality was treated differently in each country so it is difficult to compare ie in USA very premature babies are included whereas in some european countries they will not be included hence the difference.
There was an antivax report that tried to claim that the amount of vaccines was comparable to the infant mortality rate ie US more vaccines higher mortality, but it didnt stand up to any scrutiny because of the difference in classification and the fact most of the nabies wernt old enough for vacvines

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 17/07/2017 08:33

Thanks for the email address darth, I'll send one over today

MissHavishamsleftdaffodil · 17/07/2017 08:42

Rather than being harmed by being abandoned by the public, its more likely the family are going to find it very difficult to be left alone when all this does settle down. The press are going to be hammering at CY's front door for interviews with every right to life case that hits the media for the next twenty years, and she'll be the go to person for interviews on breakfast tv on any related cases. Any future pregnancies are also likely to mean newspaper coverage. There will almost certainly be a book deal which could well already be at the negotiating stage due to the level of public and media interest, publishers will be lining up for it.

Ellie56 · 17/07/2017 08:50

She'll probably start campaigning for parents to have "absolute rights" over their children. I think it unlikely she'll get very far with that though, given that children have had their rights entrenched in law for the best part of thirty years.

Cedilla · 17/07/2017 08:51

I'm back-tracking considerably but just wanted to say that the Blogging Barrister link a couple of pages ago is indeed excellent, and a beautifully-crafted put-down of Paul Ryan et al.

Mind you, some of the BTL comments from one responder in particular are jaw-dropping in their callousness. Give me strength. It's not just CA; we're surrounded by obtuseness on both sides.

yolofish · 17/07/2017 08:59

I've been following these threads, and looked at CA on FB. My hope is that they will let Charlie go in peace as soon as possible.

Just one thing: drugs that can cross the blood-brain-barrier (in sufficient quantities and correctly targetted) are the fucking holy grail. If SuperMario can do that then he is on to the biggest moneyspinner ever. Somehow I doubt he's quite there yet. I only know this because I run a brain cancer charity, working directly with one of the world's leading paediatric neurooncologists, no scientific expertise myself!

Ellie56 · 17/07/2017 09:04

Good comment on the DM story about C & C being unhappy about Charlie's guardian's barrister:

I would love, for just one day, to be able to 'open' a newspaper without seeing an article about yet another thing that Charlie's parents are outraged about. Enough of all this angst and negativity! Stop constantly running to the papers with yet another story, get off this runaway media train and go and spend as much time as you can with your little boy.

Morning all.

Just an update with links for all....

New thread so that we can await this afternoon's hearing at 1400 (UK time)

Let's try to keep this one as sensible and measured as the past 7 threads have been.

Timeline:
4 August 2016: Charlie was born a "perfectly healthy" baby at full term and at a "healthy weight". After about a month, however, Charlie's parents noticed that he was less able to lift his head and support himself than other babies of a similar age.
Approx Sept 16 Doctors discovered he had a rare inherited disease - infantile onset encephalomyopathy mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome (MDDS).
Oct 16 In October, after he had became lethargic and his breathing shallow, he was transferred to the Great Ormond Street Hospital.
March 3: Great Ormond Street bosses asked Mr Justice Francis to rule that life support treatment should stop.
The judge was told that Charlie could only breathe through a ventilator and was fed through a tube.
April 11: Mr Justice Francis said doctors could stop providing life-support treatment after analysing the case at a hearing in the Family Division of the High Court in London. He concluded that life-support treatment should end and said a move to a palliative care regime would be in Charlie's best interests.
May 3: Charlie's parents then asked Court of Appeal judges to consider the case.
May 23: After analysing the case, three Court of Appeal judges dismissed the couple's appeal two days later.
25 May: Court of Appeal judges dismiss the couple's appeal
June 8: Charlie's parents then lost their fight in the Supreme Court. Charlie's mother broke down in tears and screamed as justices announced their decision and was led from the court by lawyers.
20 June: Judges in the European Court of Human Rights start to analyse the case after lawyers representing Charlie's parents make written submissions
27 June: Judges in the European Court of Human Rights refuse to intervene
Judgment 19/06 By Lady Hale, Supreme Court
ECHR endorses decisions by UK courts 27/06/17

ArgyMargy · 17/07/2017 09:09

Yolofish it depends - in this field/case yes but in many cases you actually don't want the drug to enter the brain!

yolofish · 17/07/2017 09:15

Very true ArgyMargy! but in Charlie's case that's where they are hoping it will make the difference (regardless of irreversible brain damage) and certainly in brain cancer - although I am most clued up about glioblastoma.

Sostenueto · 17/07/2017 09:16

Does anyone think Charlie's parents are aware of the damage they maybe causing
inadvertantly as regards the law on children's rights?

Sostenueto · 17/07/2017 09:19

Hope that's not a horrible thing to say, my wording can be off sometimes.Sad

Sostenueto · 17/07/2017 09:21

Thanks cjt110 for updatesFlowers

muckypup73 · 17/07/2017 09:23

Do we need a new thread? can we not just have no 11, when this one runs out?

Sostenueto · 17/07/2017 09:24

Unless Connie disrupts meeting and walks out I don't think we will hear anything till next week, not unless Connie leaks stuff to media.

Sostenueto · 17/07/2017 09:25

Waves frantically to muckypuppyFlowers

muckypup73 · 17/07/2017 09:25
