You couldn't make it up! You cannot hillsborough this because it's not the 80s. Arseholes. The council are arseholes beyond compare - locking children's therapists out and limiting their time to help traumatised kids and then refusing any public attendance at their meeting because they're scared. I cannot believe they're going on like this, they just cannot care.

mrsglowglow · 29/06/2017 17:53

I just can't believe Teresa May can give a speech saying there will be a full and timely inquiry and no stone unturned blah blah blah. All sounding promising and then we hear the very narrow terms of reference the inquiry will include. In what world does she think this is acceptable? We really should be very alarmed as per that twitter post.

This weeks Grazia has the diary of Grenfell survivor Corinne Jones. A diary of the first week after the fire.

Shes staying in a Premier Inn in Earls Court. No one has asked her or her family if they have breathed in smoke or are ok. On Tuesday 20th June FOUR different people called her to say they were her social worker and they are going to sort out her housing.
On Sunday 18 June she said she wishes the council and police would talk to each other.
On Thursday 22nd June a social worker rang to say they were going to help with with her sons" school uniforms but the social worker didnt turn up.

And Moore Bick is an expert in commercial rather than criminal law.

HelenaDove · 29/06/2017 18:17

"Survivors have also told us today that families are being offered accommodation outside of the borough of Kensington and Chelsea"

So they were lied to on the Victoria Derbyshire show yesterday.

HelenaDove · 29/06/2017 18:38

Maughm is on channel 5 news now saying the inquiry wont be looking at why residents concerns were ignored.

Breaking: Media including Guardian wins order preventing Kensington & Chelsea holding Grenfell meeting behind closed doors

LordTrash · 29/06/2017 18:54

Well, that's something, Helena.

Seriously can't believe K&C/TM etc think they can get away with this kind of thing. Do they really think nobody's following this story except non-influential 'little people'? Jeez.

RBKC has effectively defied a ruling by a high court judge. Who do these people think they are? Total contempt for accountability

Extraordinary. @RBKC Cabinet leader Paget-Brown just announced meeting closed because the media are in the room #Grenfell

mrsglowglow · 29/06/2017 19:06

That poor lady Helena Sad she waited all that time to be moved to a place more suited due to her disability and that was the best she got! In a high rise tower block! Sounds like her previous home had no lift so she probably thought at least the high rise had a lift.

HelenaDove · 29/06/2017 19:12

Moore Bick saying an interim report may be published within a year.

2 weeks ago Sadiq Khan said the survivors should get an interim report this summer.

mrsglowglow · 29/06/2017 19:26

#Breaking @RBKC cancels cabinet meeting after press were allowed to attend, claiming it would "prejudice" forthcoming public inquiry t.co/Q6SoIeAZKb

Wtfh did they want to talk about??

mrsglowglow · 29/06/2017 19:29

So the bullshit about fear of violence was just bullshit. They disgust me. Yes you Kensington and Chelsea Council if you read this.

ExplodedCloud · 29/06/2017 19:31

It's disgraceful. All of it :(

mrsglowglow · 29/06/2017 19:43

They are rotten and they need to go. Every one of them. A disgrace to public office. What is it they want to cover up? Good thing about emails and paper trails, they can't disappear!

Paget Brown is just giving out a load of platitudes and then wringing his hands about the councils rep?

Arsehole.

After the council meeting was cancelled the leader of the Labour Group told me why Paget-brown should resign. #grenfelltower

This has echoes of Shirley Porter and her belief that she did not have to be accountable to anyone. In her case though she knew she could count on absolute support by a powerful government. In contrast I assume Paget-Brown is a panicking incompetent idiot.

KnockMeDown · 30/06/2017 08:45

I don't know if this has already been mentioned on here, but Adele is raising money for the victims of Grenfell tower. I went to see her at Wembley last night, and she was quite vocal about the disaster, and very angry about the complete lack of support for those affected. She said that the money she was raising would be going straight to the affected. I thought she was very genuine about it.

She was askiing for £5 by text, and said that the night before they raised £100k, with there being 98k at the concert.

If anyone would like to donate via her, you can text UNITE to 70005

The documents obtained by the BBC reveal contractors working for Kensington and Chelsea council were asked in 2014 to replace zinc cladding with a more economical aluminium version.

One document - a list of requested savings sent to contractors in July 2014 - details potential savings of £693,161, reducing the cost of the contract from about £9.2m to £8.5m.

It includes £293,368 that would be saved by fitting "aluminium cladding in lieu of zinc cladding".

And

Earlier planning documents suggest the original plan was for zinc cladding with a fire-retardant core.

Residents had also been told their new cladding would be made of zinc. Both types of cladding have the same official fire rating.

Just looked up Shirley Porter as that's before my time. That really does stink of the same stuff.

nauticant · 30/06/2017 09:37

You're clearly interest in the workings of government RedToothBrush and so I'd strongly recommend this book to you as being one of the best and most readable exposés of corruption in UK local government:

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Very-Good-Nothing-Like-a-Dame-The-Scandals-of-Shirley-Porter-Hardcover-Hosk-/382125394202

Once it gets going anyone having even a vague interest will be reading it with their eyes on stalks.
