So the statement is saying similar things to what I thought might be the case, and why they have been so cautious up to now with numbers.

They couldn't do it any other way unfortunately. The only issue is how long its taken to convey this to the public.

Tomorrow's figure won't be pretty.

eynesbury · 18/06/2017 22:52

I've no idea about the number but was there no nearby cctv?

BurnTheBlackSuit · 18/06/2017 22:54

I posted earlier that one of the documents regarding the regeneration included surveillance cameras in the reception area of the tower block.

RedToothBrush · 18/06/2017 22:54

It sounds rather than there are potentially people who have lists of people they sub-let to, and the police are appealing for that information.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/06/2017 22:56

I believe there was CCTV in the lobby although whether this is recoverable or not depends on how badly damaged the electrics were I'd imagine. Even that will be a challenge.

HelenaDove · 18/06/2017 22:57

I just watched The Papers on BBC News Tomorrows Daily Telegraph is going with the fact that some residents ARE being moved hundreds of miles away.

Surely they need to be near people they know......their support network They have been through a MASSIVE trauma and they are being moved miles away.

GhostPower · 18/06/2017 22:57

Not saying this is a conspiracy. Just don't think we should believe every thing the media tells us. They only tell us what they want us to hear/know. What they won't tell you is information like a fire fighter found 42 dead bodies in one room but yet the media has said 30 was the death toll so far. Or that one victim was sent to a hotel but given no food or anything for two days until a volunteer gave them food people donated. If people keep their minds closed you will never get the truth. It's so sad what happened. It's awful.

eynesbury · 18/06/2017 23:00

If they are being moved away then I hope it's the people who want that. Maybe they have friends or relatives in the new location

It might be a good move for them. If it's forced then that's a different matter

11122aa · 18/06/2017 23:01

is the 42 dead bodies in one room a genuine rumour that some are spreading.

eynesbury · 18/06/2017 23:01

32 bodies in one room?? Seriously, where did your read that??

I can't imagine he will ever sleep easy again

eynesbury · 18/06/2017 23:01

*42

GhostPower · 18/06/2017 23:05

A resident nearby the tower happened to know the firefighter.

wobblywonderwoman · 18/06/2017 23:05

:(

BurnTheBlackSuit · 18/06/2017 23:05

42 seems a lot. But from what I have read about the FB live feed from floor 23, there was more than one flats residents in one flat (came into their neighbours flat?). It also sounds like a lot of people died on the stairs Sad

GhostPower · 18/06/2017 23:06

Exactly my point. I didn't read it anywhere. I heard it from a resident near the tower

11122aa · 18/06/2017 23:09

42 bodies in one flat could sadly include illegal immigrants which certain sections of the press will use to further it.

kirinm · 18/06/2017 23:09

There is a video of one of the residents where he says that one man who lost his wife has been moved to a care home against his wishes and an entire family moved to Preston against their wishes. Council have apparently told residents that if they don't accept what / where they're offered, they will be considered to have made themselves intentionally homeless.

If there is even an ounce of truth in that (which I could well believe) it's fucking scandalous.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/06/2017 23:10

Don't believe everything the media tells us - random rumours spread on twitter or facebook, however, should be treated as gospel.

I don't believe any firefighter found 42 people in a room and then came out and told a local resident.

It's good to have an open mind...but try to make sure it's not so open that your brains fall out. Every time there's a big tragedy like this there are people claiming to have the inside track and spreading information which turns out to be false.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/06/2017 23:12

Now that, on the other hand, I could more readily believe kirinm. It wouldn't even need to be the official policy, just an overzealous fucker with an attitude and not an ounce of empathy.

RedToothBrush · 18/06/2017 23:12

Chinese Whispers.

The media are not telling the whole story. Not out of maliciousness or to supress anything. They don't know the story and the police are trying to establish what gone on. In a responsible manner.

Patience is what the residents, understandably don't have. But its the only way that the police can get to the real truth too.

HelenaDove · 18/06/2017 23:14

The firefighters were/are amazing. And Dany Cotton had to make a decision about what to do in the space of a few seconds. The pressure must have been immense.

Captain it clearly states on that screenshot the cladding was done for aesthetic purposes.

RhythmAndStealth · 18/06/2017 23:17

One of the things Stuart Cundy said yesterday was that no-one had been able to access the building Friday afternoon til Saturday, for safety reasons. And that they regained access yesterday afternoon.

So it occurred to me that the rise in death toll could be related to that- they've had enough time actually in the building to establish more from what is physically there, rather than working from lists.

It's horrific. And the pictures from inside the building are horrendous.

Agree, that Stuart Cundy appears thoroughly decent and very capable.

Don't be so ignorant. I did not say I saw it on any social media platform. Think you need to take a trip to specsavers.

HelenaDove · 18/06/2017 23:21

I think the patience of the residents wore out when they were ignored belittled and threatened with legal action when they raised the risks.

Their trust and the trust of their relatives and friends in the authorities has completely gone.

What Stuart Cundy and his colleagues are dealing with is a group of people who have no trust in authority any more. And who can blame them!

BeyondStrongAndStable · 18/06/2017 23:22

Dany Cotton has only been in the job a few months and has had so much to deal with already. She is amazing. Flowers

Makes those 'professionals' who are handling it badly look even more inept, though
