Becca you don't have to say sorry. I do think some councils and HA's live in a world of their own with no common sense.

Do you have anyone who can advocate on your behalf?

GinSwigmore · 18/06/2017 16:04

red
Do you think the numbers add up so far?
I can only see that happening if there was under occupancy/minimum occupancy. So what does happen if bodies have been cremated to dust with no proof they were ever there, no phone contact made or missing report?

TheWitchAndTrevor · 18/06/2017 16:08

becca Cake I'm sorry you are still going through this shit.

GinSwigmore · 18/06/2017 16:08

becca am so sorry

Becca19962014 · 18/06/2017 16:12

My GP has been wonderful, yet the council, HA and independent investigator all agree I should live there. I won't. I can't. There's no housing advocacy here anymore - service was cut, I was told to go to shelter (several hours round trip which they know I cannot make).

I have somewhere right now, but my heart hurts for those caught up in this disaster having to deal with similar shit.

You wouldn't believe the number of times I've had to ask to have a different room in a hotel because my mobility means I wouldn't get out and how many people have laughed at my fears. Many times I've been put next to the lift and told that's fine for a fire escape - except it's not unless it is a very special, and expensive type of lift.

Jux · 18/06/2017 16:13

Becca, outrageous. Is your MP involved?

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 18/06/2017 16:14

I am writing to my 2 MP tomorrow

Getting people fair and equal acess to the money donated and ensuring the
Management of said money is
Managed by an unbiased committee is low hanging fruit and needs to be addressed

Becca19962014 · 18/06/2017 16:19

What did my MP say? Get a job, then you can choose where you live.

HelenaDove · 18/06/2017 16:24

Bloody hell Becca is this STILL going on. Fucking appalling. Have you contacted your MP I remember you saying there are no advice centres near you either.

I dont know how some sections of society can keep on denying how tenants are being treated.

I feel so angry.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 18/06/2017 16:25

Becca, if you contact a local CVS (Council of Voluntary Service, though not all them will call themselves a CVS) they will usually have links to charities which can advocate on you behalf and should be able to signpost you.

Becca19962014 · 18/06/2017 16:27

Yes helena it is. Though my threads have long since gone from chat. Theyre determined I can live there.

HelenaDove · 18/06/2017 16:33

Becca. Hopefully these threads will be moved to In The News this week. So these wont disappear I realise thats no immediate help to your situ though Sad Thanks

Their blase attitude over safety stinks. Like i said.............endemic.

Even with social media there are certain factions trying to frame the narrative their way. Same thing that happened with Hillsborough.

But its not 1989 any more.

Becca19962014 · 18/06/2017 16:36

Thankyou for the suggestion captainmanveldanvers I'll give it a try. I don't know if there is another stage as this was the letter from the independent investigator into my case.

I'm sorry for making this about me, it really wasn't my intention. I just wanted to highlight my situation as an example. I'm sorry if it's offended anyone. Obviously my situation is nothing like those effected by grenfell.

Becca19962014 · 18/06/2017 16:38

And in 1989 there were people in Aberfan saying it's not 1966 anymore...

RedToothBrush · 18/06/2017 16:39

Do you think the numbers add up so far?

Reports were around 150 people were identified by the fire service as being in danger. It sounds like roughly half of those were rescued. But the number 58 sounds like its perhaps short at the moment yes.

In your summary you've included the number rehoused by the authorities. But you have forgotten the possibility of people taking the option of staying with friends and family instead. Many didn't want to do this, because they feared 'losing their place in the queue' so to speak for rehousing, but if they are traumatised then the logic and importance of that might be somewhat diminished.

I doubt the numbers of people doing this will currently be showing up officially though. They have already become invisible for another reason. That in itself should be worthy of comment by newspapers but its not.

How the authorities record things and measure things and count things is such bollocks. You also have to work out what falls between the cracks in various ways.

It could be down to there be being more people in the building. It could also be down to how you count people after the fact.

My best guess, is its a combination of both tbh.

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/06/2017 16:41

Pigletjohn I'm seeing the same. I Thu j me Hammond may have been exaggerating with banned and it's rather less clear than that. The 18m makes it seem likely that's what he's been referring to though

Becca19962014 · 18/06/2017 16:42

my best guess is it's a combination of both

Definitely.

HelenaDove · 18/06/2017 16:42

YY Becca thats why the "lessons will be learned" mantra is a crock of shit.

HelenaDove · 18/06/2017 16:46

Becca you have nothing to apologise for And your situ is related to what we are discussing here as it involves them minimising your concerns over safety and viewing you with contempt for being a tenant.

CaveMum · 18/06/2017 16:46

Becca your situation is shocking, I'm so sorry. Would contacting the local press help? Something tells me the Press are more likely to listen to HA Tenant concerns given recent events.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 18/06/2017 16:56

Becca- it's the same issue isn't it where they spend the money but don't consult people how , and then say fuck you - be grateful for what we give you

That's the bloody tax we pay too

I am getting very confused now as there are stories that the nosey count is so much higher and claims it's being whitewashed (such an apt phrase Angry) and I do t know what to think anymore.

That said I strongly suspect that most of the bodies have been cremated Sad

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 18/06/2017 16:57

Body count

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/06/2017 17:03

Brutal as it is stopfuckingshoutingatme, your last point is part of why I think the "hundred of bodies in mortuaries/body bags" allegations are probably false.

DryHeave · 18/06/2017 17:06

I've been reading the Grenfell Action Group blog. Posts dating back YEARS documenting systematic failings and lack of concern from authorities. It's damning. A catalogue of fire risks, any of which could have cause this, and absolute vacuum of responsibility.

Bloke on BBC News says council are in breach of the Civil Contingencies Act. Under this act they have to consider all eventualities.
