Names of those still missing start to emerge Flowers
Nearly 80 victims being treated across six hospitals, with 15 still in critical care Flowers

Serious questions being asked about fire safety regulations, management of social housing, austerity and inequality.

Absolutely There needs to be an office set up somewhere with everything thats needed all in the one place.

People having to wander the streets hunting down the elusive members of the council while having nowhere to wash their hair or brush their teeth ....no access to money or clothes. Not knowing whats going to happen from one day to the next.

Appalling Disgusting..................i cant find a strong enough word to describe it.

Comprehensive visual guide to The grenfell Tower Fire from the BBC

Photos clearly show how quickly the fire spread.

Then clear diagrams show the nature and extent of the damage, layout of the building, how cladding can create a chimney effect and the socioeconomic differences in Kensington and Chelsea.

Oh, Rhythm. I'm crying. All I can say is: seconded. May there be peace and justice for everyone affected.

Poor little baby boy. Utterly heart-breaking and horrific in equal measure.

user1496484020 · 17/06/2017 04:44

That little lad should be fast asleep in bed right now. Dreaming sweet dreams. Getting up in the morning to wreak havoc on his parents. Instead he is dead. In the most terrifying way possible. I only hope he passed from smoke inhalation peacefully and without pain. RIP little lad.

Guardian, 6.42am

Protest postponed

The Grenfell Action Group and Radical Housing Network have postponed a protest planned to take place today at Kensington & Chelsea Town Hall. The event, which called on estate campaigners, community groups and tenants from across London to demand Justice4Grenfell, was due to take place at midday.

The Radical Housing Network said on Facebook it had been cancelled “in light of the rapidly moving situation and community protests at the Town Hall and Grenfell Tower on evening of Friday 17th” but promised “more actions and protests”.

I am not a royalist (hope it falls apart after her death) but have great respect for the Queen.

She got it very right this week, whilst our feckless government got it very wrong.

Theresa May prepared to evacuate other 1970s tower blocks if found to be unsafe

Last paragraph

Whitehall sources said that if there is a risk that other buildings have the same combination of factors that caused the Grenfell fire, residents are likely to be temporarily evacuated.

TM's interview last night was a disgrace - even tory loving daily mail are hammering her.

Saucery · 17/06/2017 07:28

Emily Maitlis looked quietly furious.

VanillaSugar · 17/06/2017 07:36

That statement from Her Maj hits the mail on the head.

Yes I was so proud of the queen . She got it right and they all cheered her .

I am marking place and am keen to hear how we can do things to help .

I don't have any words as it's such a huge issue encompassing death , despair , bravery , politics .....

7Days · 17/06/2017 07:42

I wouldn't wish that on the nagion just yet. More change, more division.
Over the last year its become easy to see the advantages of having a non political head of state. She is an intelligent caring woman with a strong sense of duty. Better than a lot of them who were elected.
Hopefully the ne t guy will be as steady as she is, they don't need to be perfect to be a calming moderating presence.

IdontTrusther · 17/06/2017 07:48

Shame protesters by the Grenfell residents of group cancelled. They are the ones who have been at a of wrestling with a the councillors for years. Cancelled due to rapidly moving situation. Shame looks like they, the people at the front line have been pushed aside by socialist worker and communist agendas.

user1496484020 · 17/06/2017 07:49

Rhythm - that reads to me that they know already what the same 'combination of factors' is.

RhythmAndStealth · 17/06/2017 07:59

stopf How you can help

Worth noting that the British Red Cross now also has an appeal for donations as well as the Evening Standard.

Drawing by Yohana Yohannes, age six, Grenfell Tower survivor.

Her mother, Merton Mekonnen, age thirty six, carried her daughter down nineteen floors through thick smoke.

The writing reads "Grenfell Tower burnt! Very bad tower and very bad quality. Watch the news to see more."

Her father, Yohannes Tesfaye, a biomedical scientist, was working a night shift at nearby Chelsea and Westminster Hospital as the disaster unfolded. He rushed back as news of the fire emerged.

He said of his daughter’s drawing “I encouraged it. I think it helps.”

I'm sorry idont but I think your speculation regarding communist taking over is incredibly inappropriate.

I'm beyond shocked that the news is not leading with the victims, everything I'm seeing as the main features is to do with the protests and the technicalities of inquests etc. Politics as fucking usual, by the looks of it. The uk is full of wonderful people but it's led and reported on by the most insular group of fuckwits you could possibly find.

Also shocking to hear @BBCMatthewPrice saying on #r4today that there was more coordination in worldwide disaster zones he's reported on

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/06/2017 09:04

Just looking at the Kensington and Chelsea allocation policy, and they don't even award overcrowding points until you are two or more bedrooms short of what you need. They also won't include anyone beyond parents and children under 21 in their calcs unless you can prove exceptional need.

I know overcrowding is common anyway but in a tower block it's incredibly dangerous. It looks like the building could have had potentially double the number of residents it was initially meant to hold. That must have massively hampered escape.
