I read the article in an open mouthed "oh my Gawd, really" kind of way but what has really shocked me are the readers comments against the article (I know it's in The Sun, but still)
People were suggesting that the woman should have smacked her child, that passengers should not be submitted to crying children and have no right to be on the bus, and that her having to walk a mile+ home was a lesson well taught.

Seriously? Who comments stuff like this?!

On the bus routes here, a crying child is going to be less of a distraction to teenagers swearing and chucking stuff around or a couple having a very public dispute.

Very now. That'll teach me to read the Sun online.

My 5-year-old still has screaming tantrums on the bus, and it's a countryside sort of bus where everyone knows us, and they all watch me struggle with her. I'm sure they're all having better ideas and I wish they'd share them! Actually, one day a lady said to her "if you don't stop that, I'll take you home with me!" Cue silence. Ds would have said yes please!

Was HEAVY but useful, hmmm, evil 3 year olds, tantrumming 5 year olds....... can't wait, lol

We live in Tyneside and are regularly subjected to this nonsense my wife can drive and i cant so if she is at work myself and dc depend on public transport. I dont fully understand the pensioner perspective "we fought in the war so you could have these choices " argument to then have to put up with this intolerant crap!!
Sorry bit of a rant for a newbie. However if teenagers are ignored while they are misbehaving what hope for the future generations looking on and thinking" it`s okay the big kids do it ."

I use public transport in london . After 5th month of preg I stopped using the tube because no one would offer a seat and I did not feel comfortable battling the morning crush with a bump!!
DD (5mth) cried all the way home on the bus recently . I had to get off due to dirty looks etc plus some teenage girls telling dd to shut up!!!!???

God as a nation we really don't hold much value over our children do we? The comments in that article are unbelievable I feel more than

Not quite relevant but when I was on a full bus in Italy and a woman and child got on (child about 7) a priest got up to allow the child to sit. We saw this sort of consideration for children alot over there.

Blackduck · 16/03/2007 12:50

My two

  • ds is having a bit of a whinge in the supermarket - woman leans down into his buggy 'shut the fuck up'......

On a very crowded bus with ds - had to hold him in my arms - in the end a nurse got up to give me her seat.

HappyDaddy · 16/03/2007 13:05

Blackduck, woman who said that to ds would have lost all her teeth!

Blackduck · 16/03/2007 13:08

I was a bit gobsmacked actually - dp was all for going back in to find her

jem1969 · 16/03/2007 13:22

God- i suddenly feel quite grateful about where I live (SW London)Generally get seats on the tube as am pregnant, but not that big yet. Was in the supermarket the other day and a mother was at the deli counter calmly ignoring her daughter who looked about 3. She was lying in the middle of the floor having THE mother of all tantrums, screaming and screaming, throwing her shoes off etc. Everyone was walking past giving small smiles of amusement and giving sympathetic smiles to the mother...

Caligula · 16/03/2007 13:34

Actually I would have called the police on that woman Blackduck.

That would have startled her.

It's an offence to say fuck in public. (And cunt, apparantly. Those are the two no-nos, you can be charged with something, I can't remember what.)

kiwinat · 16/03/2007 13:35

this country disgusts me...

jem1969 · 16/03/2007 13:44

kiwinat-To be fair, I've come across people who are nasty and rude to childen and about children all over the world, even in 'children loving' countries like Italy and Spain. I think people have good and bad experiences everywhere but only ever the put bad things on places like mumsnet.

frumpygrumpy · 16/03/2007 13:47

FFS. I have been on a long haul flight from Canada where a baby cried the whole way home. Didn't bother me at all, I just offered Calpol and felt for the poor parents who probably felt just as distressed. Stupid, stupid people. Obviously they have nothing important to worry about.
