David cameron in cannabis shocker?!?!?!

This is front page news?Is it really ?Does anyone really care what he did at Eton we all have done things as teenagers and certainly would hope not to be judged on them now.We love to rake over old ground in this country!

i doubt there are many poloticians that haven't done something they try very hard to forget when they were teenagers.

Its ridiculous.
if they came out with a major drug habbit which he paid for by mugging old ladies then yes that news worthy but this is just pathetic.

it makes it all the more annoying to know that there were probably 10 murders yesterday that will never be reported because this has taken up too many column inches

I'd be shocked if he hadn't. We want our politicians to be in touch and then we expect them to behave in a way that the rest of us don't. I'm genuinely more concerned about the fact that he went to Eton than about the possibility of him smoking a joint.

In so far as I give a sh*t that is

Exactly what I though.
Does anyone really care, does it matter, I agree, it would be disappointing if he hadn't have tried.
If he was still doing recreational coke however now at dinner parties , might be a different story as he is a father now (and secondly leader of opposition)

He's always refused to answer questions on this subject which is a clear indicator that he has done some drugs in the past - otherwise he'd come out with a resounding no. So why is this suddenly a "story".

Pathetic newspapers trying to make something out of nothing.

And I don't think this is down to Cameron trying to be anything, such as cool, etc., as it comes from a biography, rather than an autobiography.

I'm no Cameron fan. I too worry more about the fact that he went to Eton, comes from money and married pots of money so can have little awareness of the money worries of the vast majority of the public.

have been in touch with my local (Conservative) MP recently about a local issue that is upsetting everyone. I don't give a toss whether he smoked cannabis, or whether his leader did. I do care that they are only interested in giving people with a lot of cash exactly what they want. They don't care about the rest of us and in this constituency where a pig standing as a Tory could win (and has) they don't mind showing it. And yet people will still vote for his party when the election comes around.

I wasn't a political animal before speaking to our MP but now I think I'll be canvassing for his opposition.

ANd his punishment for being caught at Eton was being grounded for a week, which meant that mum and dad couldn't come and see him that week which was very "embarassing".

Aaaah - lets have a politician who used to be a crack addict or like my DH overcome heroin addiction.

That a rapist say, could insist his victim bears his child? Or that an abusive bully forces his ex wife to have a baby she doesn't want? And what if she dies in childbirth or suffers post birth psychosis because of it?
Rich people aren't evil people who can't empathise with people who don't have money. You can't condem or discriminate against someone because they have benefitted from a good education.

I couldn't care less if he smoked a joint. Everyone does stupid things at that age.

Saying I worry more about his going to Eton than I do about the fact that he smoked cannibis as a teenager is hardly condemning him. If my worry over his cannibis use is zero, any worry over his going to Eton is not necessarily going to be of "condemnation" value, is it? I used it merely as a way of comparison.

Me neither NH but sometimes, unless you are a very intelligent and empathetic person (which David Cameron may well be, I have no idea) it can stop you understanding how terrible some experiences are for individuals.

So you can push through a piece of legislation which you believe to be right, although it may cause regrettable hardship in the short term, but which you believe is necessary for the long term good of society.

Having been there and experienced it, sometimes makes you more empathetic.

OTOH for some people it has the opposite effect (the "I went through it, so they can bloody well go through it too" mentality).

I agree that it doesn't necessarily stop you from understanding but experience is truly life's best teacher.

And mentioning that wasn't meant to start a whole new debate (although you can carry on if you like ) but to give a comparison with how worried (or not) I am by Cameron's teenage shenanigans.
