15 year old girl has been found guilty of murder

In my town this happened

Liz Edwards and her daughter Katie was found murdered by a boy and girl aged 14 at the time

The boy admitted murder. The girl didn't. She admitted to manslaughter instead, despite all the evidence it was her idea.

Today she's been found guilty. Good. She's just as bad as he is. I hope the justice system gives them a good jail sentence

please remember that as they are underage it is illegal to name them. If you do know who they are (as I know it's quite common knowledge at least around here) you cannot identify them at all!

Quite astonishing that it's thought two individuals who are capable of a double murder like this wouldn't be considered to be a danger to the community!

a little article on why they did it

But be warned...it's got some upsetting details in there too

Just reading up on it, it's shocking how easy it is to find the full details on Google - it seems strange that they've hidden their identity, but left so much revealing information on mainstream news sites when I'm sure they could have gotten rid of the articles?

It sounds almost a rndom killing. From what I've read they decided to do a killing and picked them for fairly flimsy reasons that weren't much more than "she looked at me funny".
They sound psychopathic in their lack of remorse or empathy.

It isn't difficult to find out who did it online. I knew it wouldn't be random and it took 5 minutes to find them online. Including photographs.

Definitely not a random killing. I've read their statements Confused

Awful doesn't even come close to describing this.

It's fairly easy to guess at the parts of the story not covered in the media today. I mean, not many 14 year olds conduct brutal murders of random strangers.

Absolutely chilling. I hope the pair of them stay in prison for a very, very long time. It's one thing to say that neither one would have committed such an act without the other, but any child capable of murder (and such nonchalant behaviour afterwards) surely is not capable of being integrated into society in later life?

Once I found out more (as pp said it is easy to find on Google) it is even more shocking.

Neither of these kids should ever be let out of jail.

Children are only named if it's deemed to be in the public best interest

The girl tried to plead manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility (or rather her defence team did) but she was not found to be suffering from any MH problems.

i don't understand the motive then....even though i know who they are

It was a 'grudge' apparently.

The girl said she'd been feeling like murdering someone for ages. Very chilling. She definitely seemed to be leading the boy.

One of the shocking things about the case was that they stayed in the house for 36 hours with the dead bodies there. I can only imagine that to kill someone like that you'd have to be in a kind of fever of excitement, but that afterwards you'd calm down and want to get out. Their behaviour was psychopathic, in the planning, the execution of it and afterwards.

Are we allowed to say who we think has done it. I have had an idea since this event first happened ?

Report
Soubriquet · 18/10/2016 18:48

No. It's illegal to post anything that could reveal their identity

So terribly sad, what a horrific story. But as others have said it's shockingly easy to find out who did it and I feel that it just makes a mockery of the anonymity rule. In this day and age it would be impossible to keep their identity under wraps so why even pretend to. The more you discover the more chilling and disturbing it becomes. Not something I would choose to know about but two older women were talking about it on the bus just now.
I cannot believe that these two children never displayed any worrying behaviour beforehand and it just goes to show that there needs to be so much more help available for young people with mental health issues.

kate t says MH problems were ruled out though?
I agree, it is shockingly easy to find out who did it, I do think a 14 yr old who chooses to do this in such a way has to have some kind of MH issue but doctors have ruled it out, which is why she has been charged.

Incredible to be classed as "mentally well" having done what they did. How on earth. It defies belief, just terrible. And yes very simple to find out who it was.

I wonder if they will be named after sentencing?
As pp have said, a quick google shows articles that named them initially, I can't understand why those articles haven't been taken down, if joe public can find them then I'm sure the legal system can.....
So so sad and shocking

What Bertrand said. And in the Australian case mentioned upthread one of the girls grew up to be a detective novelist and by all accounts a good person. There's nowt so queer as folk.
