When we talk about the refugee child with an adult coming to the uk the left can never seem to answer the question

If they come were will the live

We have a shortage of 8000 foster carers so we would need 8000 just to stand still with children already in the uk care system

We don't have children home in the old sence anymore children under 11 certainly can't live in them they are usually 5 or 6 room homes and most local boroughs have 1 or 2 and most have waiting lists

They talk about children joing existing family
they would have to be vetted in the same way any kinship foster carer and it's unlikely most of these family would pass the assment

All these lefties usually pipe up I will take the poor kiddies in
my question would be if your keen to look after children who are in the care system why are you not a foster carer already

That's all really just sick of the usually leftie rubbish with out the piratical thoughts about were these children can live and this is not your usual issue about money there are x amount of foster carers in each LA and they have x amount of rooms spare

Most people don't even consider things like most La will require you to leave your job in order to foster and there has to be a room for each child so there is no shoving a sibling group of 4 in with one foster carer in her spare room

Theses children often living in old schools converted in to make shift children's homes

Tbh as Somone who fostered I would not find it ok to invite children over to the U.K. For them to be living in a old school or a old hospital

Children under 11 should not be living in a group home and they would be vunrable to abuse ,abduction and frigg knows what else

Please go to the SN thread and ask the mums on there about CHAMS and respite support Ect

No doubt these children would need CHAMS in my area the waiting list is 7 months and that was for a looked after child with all the clout of ss Ect 7 months most LA have one child psychologist and they are only used if a placement is about to disrupt because there are so many children

Look at your Council website and search local plan.

You will be horrified by the amount of new building proposed. We are having to build two new towns in green countryside to have any hope of accommodating the immigration. We are covering our beautiful countryside in housing estates to accommodate immigration. Meanwhile our children can not afford a home.

There is money for this, but no political will.

I read an article yesterday which pointed out that to be on the Times Rich List, you now have to have 13% more money than 10 years ago. However, in that same time, incomes of ordinary people have remained fairly static. (The article was in the Telegraph, that well known leftie newspaper.)

The reason children's services are so stretched is because the money for them is being diverted elsewhere (see above).

Incidentally, while I agree that makeshift children's homes are not a good solution, are they worse than the jungle in Calais?

Gosh Professor, they are building two towns just for immigrants to live in? No one else?! Shocking.

If my own children had a choice of living in a quasi children's home in a disused school in a safe place, or staying with me to be bombed, I know which I'd choose for them. Nothing "leftie" about that.

Those people are safer here than they are being bombed by us in their own country. If we are going to attack their country we need to take responsibility of some of the consequences.

We would have plenty of money if our right-wing Gvts (including Blair's New Labour and Tory) did not encourage tax dodging, corporate creaming and wage compression and corruption so much.

As it happens high levels of immigration greatly benefit the crooks at the top like Philip Green and subsidy benefits scrounger Richard Branson, and the multiple mansion owning MPs who were allegedly elected.

While the rest of us have no choice but to rent for all eternity, die with nothing but debt we are rendered powerless by a system that promotes screwing us over financially and killing innocent children abroad.

I'd choose a refugee camp or shit tiny room over being bombed in my own country anyday and I would choose this for my own children with no hesitation.

How about our MPs stop bombing other countries for starts? How about we stop voting for MPs who love warmongering. Take responsibility for your own support of people who have created war or your own lack of support to pacifism movements.

The left has it's history in pacifism, something alien to Bush and Blair and Junker who have created all this. The left do have answers, and deciding where these refugees live and providing support now has to be one of them.

No one will put the resources into it. It would cost a fortune to have them enter the foster care system.

If it was done badly then we'd just have a time bomb of people able to sue the state for neglect/abuse. The percentage of children abused in care is already too high.

Do it properly or not at all. And sadly it's a govt that will just not do it.

More money won't produce more rooms or more foster carers the are always advertising for foster cares literally every la has adverts around town in there local news papers so I am not sure

We don't have so few foster cArers because the govermnet won't pay for them we don't have enough carers because it's a fucking hard job that not many want to do and those who do stick there neck out often don't pass the very tough assment

also those who thik it's better to live in a make shift children's home I would point to what happened in Rotherham in children's homes that are not make shift and are propley staffed*

Why would you bring a child to the uk if you cannot improve there life in any tangible way you bring a child from the Calis jungle who is at risk of people raped ,abducted or abused to a disused hospital come children's homes with unskilled and qualified staff -or possibly no staff witch I'd often is napping in Germany--

i can tell you know what would would happed to those young people any one who actually works with looked after would confirm This

Younger children will be shunted between foster carers because they currently are not enough

Older children will be placed in bed sits or in hostals and not nessairly with other young people

That is pretty much the solution we have for the children currently I'm care
that is why sw do so much to keep manage neglect with in homes and keep children with parents even if there shit because the alternative is not much better

We have to start looking at the system we have not the one we would like

I had a little girl 8 who we fostered for 6 months it was decided that she would go back to mum who was neglecting her the judge said because of the girls high level of need it was unlikely a long term foster care would be found because of her age she would not be adopted on balance being shunted from foster carer to carer would be more harmful than the mothers low level but constant neglect

I think the 'lefties' of whom you speak haven't thought it through. They're basically advocating a two tier care system in which brown children can have a bunk bed in a dorm with unvetted carers because that's better than being bombed.

While our own white children must be carefully protected from abuse.

Imagine their anger if this actually came to pass.

I think more money in the system would encourage some more foster carers.

I don't see any problem with people going it professionally so to speak.

But that would still not give is anywhere near the numbers required. And it is an appalling thought that we will have young people just bunking down in any old fashion. The idea that these children should come because anything is better than what they have is so simplistic.

I agree with your point in the main however I think most people would struggle with the assment however much you paid them

Also they often struggle with the thought your home is not your own you will be intruded by ss you could potentially be exposing your own children to abuse or even yourself and most people don't realise that ss require you to give up your job as they often want one person at home full time

In the alternate universe were we take thse children are leave them it a bed sit somewhere

Can I ask what your solution is then? Leave all the refugees where they are and thank your lucky stars that you were born in a relatively wealthy country?

I know I don't have all (any?!) of the answers, but my goodness, what makes me more deserving of a good, stable and safe life than anyone else, just because I was born in a particular country (not the UK)?
