Why is David Cameron and the rest of the Westminster ilk carrying on as if his resignation is a jolly leaving party with champagne and cake?

I've just watched PMQs and I'm shocked they didn't bring in party hats, cake and champagne. It was something of a jovial leaving party rather than acknowledging we've been left some what up shit creek without so much as a paddle. Cameron tried to alter what his legacy will be wrt reducing the deficit, unemployment and gay marriage but we still have that small issue to deal with about Europe.

I can say that I do think in the current climate Theresa May is probably the best person for the job - in so far as the alternative would have been Andrea-'no filter'-Leadsom but Cameron shouldn't be laughing his way out of Downing street. He single-handedly caused this.

Couldn't agree more. Utterly sickening. He gets to bugger off on a lovely long summer holiday, leaving the entire country up shit creek due to his own vanity. He's a disgrace.

I'm extremely relieved that Andrea Leadsom is history. Awful woman.

Meh. It's just a job at the end of the day, one he's done for years and is leaving and so I suppose he's as entitled to celebrate that as much as anyone else leaving any other job.

We're in good hands with Theresa May. It'll be OK.

I think it's in poor taste tbh. Yes he's moving on but he can do so in a more dignified manner and do the whooping & partying behind the scenes.

At least he campaigned strongly for Remain, unlike some.
His decision to stand down was honourable, IMO he is right to leave with his head up.

BeJay I happen to agree with your last point wrt his decision to stand down was honourable as he fought the fight unlike Corbyn others. But that said, this is squarely his fault. I'm on the fence with this, this is the first time myself and my contemporaries were able to make a choice but it was ill thought out. There was no plan and for the best part of 4 decades the UK has been behaving like a spoilt child with regards to Europe. No wonder they're basically telling us to not let the door hit us on our way out.

Aye except it's not 'just a job'. He was running the country! If someone thinks being the pm is just a job you that you can up and leave when you fancy they shouldn't have the position in the first place.

Although I'm sure he's got regrets, I would think part of both he and Sam are thinking 'thank God we've got our lives back!'

If I was Sam I'd be booking a long summer holiday, and then start getting things back into place to resume the successful career which was cut short.

And I'm sure they'll be looking at alternative schooling options now!

Plenty of promises (pack of lies as it turns out) from all sides but no plan whatsoever. Its like deciding to burn down your house just to see what might happen. The spoiled child, special status, special treatment stuff is mortifying and Cameron just continued it. Some people in this country seem to think we're some great hulking Superpower, seat of the Empire and all that crap, instead of just a country like any other. Its pathetic

I will admit to actually being tearful as he just left Downing St with his family. But then, I am a bit prone to hysteria at the moment.

Sadly, we've lost the EU, and political and economical stability.

I think it's stupid to blame DavidCam for the Referendum. It was a party platform decision & had been brewing for decades.

There's this little thing called globalisation... countries don't get simple control over borders and laws any more. Not sure they ever actually had it. North Korea style maybe.

Why the surprise? He conducted his entire time as prime minister in a similar fashion, as though this job was his right and it was just a matter of time till he Took His Turn. This was always the impression I got of him and his pals, it was/is just a big jolly and cracking the whip all over the poor and vulnerable (in his mind lazy and workshy) people was all part of the fun.

He has left behind a Shit Storm and to be honest that is the ONLY thing I don't blame him for, I would have resigned too.

Cameron has stepped down in a very decent and honourable manner. He deserves all the accolades coming his way. In stark contrast to Corbyn hiding in his bunker plotting to destroy the Labour party in slow motion.
