While watching this morning's Eu debates an argument was put forward
that it was mainly the educated/qualified in the large cities like London
Edinburgh and Brighton voting to remain as they were the most mobile/
more likely to be moving to Europe for jobs etc
This is not necessarily this poster's view but it does seem these places
have more "knowledge "jobs than the provinces So I would like these
degree holding Mmnetters to disclose whether there is any truth in this?

Minimum wage care assistant, I voted remain

Asprilla11 · 24/06/2016 07:33

Being educated to a higher standard does not necessarily mean being more intelligent, especially in everyday life.

Voted remain, no education above GCSE.

ObiWankyKnobby · 24/06/2016 07:35

Degree + professional qualification. Remain.

fastdaytears · 24/06/2016 07:35

Degree and postgrad - remain

The stats (non MN ones) do back this up but no one is saying that less educated means stupid. It's just an interesting question. There are also stats for income, age and socio-economic status.

GoldenWorld · 24/06/2016 07:35

I have 2 degrees and live in London, voted remain. I live in the East End and everywhere I've seen had remain posters up. Only knew one person voting leave (and she's a doctor, so obviously not uneducated!)

My family, and where I moved from recently, are in a mostly rural county with lots of pensioners who I suspect were overwhelmingly leave. The vast majority of older people from home I know were very vocal about wanting to leave.

TrojanWhore · 24/06/2016 07:35

"This is just inciting more hatred against each other, and dividing people not only on race but now their intelligence level."

Yes, I think this is an unpleasant and divisive approach.

fastdaytears · 24/06/2016 07:36

I am neither thick or uneducated. How very dare you!

Has someone told you that you are?

HumphreyCobblers · 24/06/2016 07:36

This is another depressing thread. How patronising.

I am very educated and I voted out. I know it might be comforting to many people to assume that only thick people may have a different opinion to them, but that just shows how narrow minded and prejudiced a person is.

HildurOdegard · 24/06/2016 07:36

Degree, leave. Also potentially lost personal eu pension fund.

LyndaNotLinda · 24/06/2016 07:37

It's the results of a YouGov survey Humphrey.

fastdaytears · 24/06/2016 07:38

I don't know what is patronising about commenting on freely available statistics.

The Op's research methods may be a little bit flawed though.

CancellyMcChequeface · 24/06/2016 07:38

There's a false correlation here. The trend doesn't mean 'Leave voters are stupid' but that better-educated people are more likely to have higher-paying jobs, and benefit from the influx of cheap labour from the EU instead of being in competition with it and losing out.

Some of the comments about working class 'little people' on this site this morning are disgusting.

I'm currently a mature university student and I voted Leave. So did my dad, who hasn't got any formal qualifications but is a skilled tradesman. I weighed up the decision and listened to the arguments of the Remain campaign (not the Remain supporters I know in person, who were more interested in calling me stupid or racist when I told them I was leaning towards Leave) and made the best decision I could with the information I had, which is all any of us are doing really.

BishopBrennansArse · 24/06/2016 07:39

I'm A level educated and a carer for my 3 disabled children, so don't fit that demographic.

Homemama · 24/06/2016 07:40

I don't think it's about level of education, more about wider intelligence. All the intelligent people I know, regardless of their level of education, voted to remain.

Makeoneupnow · 24/06/2016 07:41

Not exactly going to get a true snapshot for many reasons but I will add into the mix...
I've got a degree and currently studying masters I voted out
My Dh is a highly qualified engineer- out
My dm business manager - out
My dad also business manager voted remain
My dsis nhs worker- remain

My fb is full of people despairing but there's a few that are normally quite vocal being awfully quiet so I will draw my own conclusions from that- they are all from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds and various parts of the country

HumphreyCobblers · 24/06/2016 07:44

Yes, I know it a an actual poll. It is the spin put on it that I am objecting to. As if only educated people are intelligent. As if OF COURSE the educated voted in as it was THE ONLY REASONABLE CHOICE.

It is an attitude I have struggled with thoughout.

toriap2 · 24/06/2016 07:46

No degree. Voted remain

trixymalixy · 24/06/2016 07:46

Degree and post grad qualification here. I voted remain.

FellOutOfBed2wice · 24/06/2016 07:47

Certainly true for the most part of me and my friends and family in London. Exceptions are parents and grandmother who voted remain and don't have degrees. Otherwise pretty much everyone I know follows that trend.

ToniWol · 24/06/2016 07:50

Degree and remain.

I think the correlation is more likely to be that those with degrees were more likely to make their decision after doing more research into the issues instead of taking the claims of either campaign as gospel.

Homemama · 24/06/2016 07:52

I think it's not so much the intelligence of the remain camp but more the sheer stupidity of a great many in the leave camp who will wake up this morning thinking they are entering some land of milk and honey.

Whathaveilost · 24/06/2016 07:53

Degree, I work with challenging young people in Blackpool. Remain
DH no degree, own business works in Blckpool, although we both live 30 miles away from there- remain.

feathermucker · 24/06/2016 07:53

No degree or formal qualification above GCSE/ NVQ Level.

Remain

MrsJayy · 24/06/2016 07:54

Well i went to school no degree though i voted remain

pitterpatterrain · 24/06/2016 07:55

The other thing which is mixed up with education is the increasing proportion of university attendance and degrees related to age. If only 10% of an age group typically went to university vs today went to university are we saying they are not intelligent? Seems a false assertion
