While watching this morning's Eu debates an argument was put forward
that it was mainly the educated/qualified in the large cities like London
Edinburgh and Brighton voting to remain as they were the most mobile/
more likely to be moving to Europe for jobs etc
This is not necessarily this poster's view but it does seem these places
have more "knowledge "jobs than the provinces So I would like these
degree holding Mmnetters to disclose whether there is any truth in this?

Postgraduate degree - Remain

MillieMoodle · 24/06/2016 07:16

degree and post-grad - remain

Mycraneisfixed · 24/06/2016 07:17

Degree, post grad and Leave. And I wish people who voted Remain would grow up and accept the result. I considered all the issues and was well-informed before making my decision so stop saying that the Leave voters "didn't understand the issues". So patronising. I don't want a body of people I didn't elect making decisions and laws for my country.

Well I'm Scottish so things are skewed as we mostly voted remain. But the strongest remain votes - over 70% remain - were in Scottish areas like East Renfrewshire and East Dunbartonshire which are more affluent, with a higher percentage of graduates and the best performing schools.

NoahVale · 24/06/2016 07:18

there are an awful lot of voters who dont use mumsnet
this poll is therefore worthless

BrandNewAndImproved · 24/06/2016 07:18

I'm completely uneducated, I haven't even got any gcses and I voted remain.

I would say it's an age thing, and people who aren't intelligent enough to see they're fucking themselves up by voting out.

Educated doesn't equal intelligent.

Post grad- remain. I'm in Wales. All my work colleagues (all degree educated) were voting remain.

NoahVale · 24/06/2016 07:20

my (non degree) vote was cancelled out by my DH (non degree) vote

clarinsgirl · 24/06/2016 07:20

Not sure it's just about education. 75% of 18-24 year olds voted to remain, only 39% of over 65's voted remain.

Both post grad professionals. Surrey. Leave. Similar to most of our closest friends and our MP so I'd say we are pretty well educated and well informed.

lem73 · 24/06/2016 07:21

Degree and voted remain but dh is degree level educated and voted leave.

AprilLoveJ · 24/06/2016 07:22

brandnew they don't want non-degree holders posting here Smile

I'm not an uneducated, unqualified leave voter by the way Wink

This is just inciting more hatred against each other, and dividing people not only on race but now their intelligence level.

Not very intelligent is it. Just s chance for educated people to show off and look down their noses at the less academically inclined, and blame their 'stupidity' for the country's 'impending decline'.

lem73 · 24/06/2016 07:24

I have to add that I really thought long and hard about my vote. I was leave at one point but my teenage boys actually helped me make up my mind to vote remain.

Banana99 · 24/06/2016 07:25

Post grad and PhD remain

AprilLoveJ · 24/06/2016 07:26

I think it be staying off mumsnet today. If this is how intelligent people are dealing with the aftermath online, I'd hate to see how it's going to be handled on the streets later.

Piemernator · 24/06/2016 07:26

The undertone behind this thread is the kind of thing that gets people's backs up. Sneering middle class metropolitan elite bullshit.

NoahVale · 24/06/2016 07:27

well considering the remain vote lost, another reason why this poll is worthless. unless it shows, that on mumsnet, those who have degrees, are up/available to join the thread.

AllThePrettySeahorses · 24/06/2016 07:27

Interesting comment about Labour heartlands, Meditrina.

Northern Labour cities, such as Liverpool (where I live) and Manchester voted Remain, but traditional Tory heartlands across eg the South have voted Out.

This also negates the ridiculous scapegoating of Corbyn - there are more Tory voters than Labour so even if all Labour voters were whipped into choosing Remain, there are still nowhere near enough to guarantee the result.

Agree with education not being relevant to intelligence as well. In a past job, only 5 or 6 years ago, I was surrounded by people with degrees and could out think them with my eyes closed even though I originally left school after GCSEs. I later left, went to university and got a first

originalmavis · 24/06/2016 07:29

Its Mumsnet not NORI for goodness sake!

AllThePrettySeahorses · 24/06/2016 07:31

Piermernator - I for one am very, very working class. Middle classes don't have a monopoly on intelligence - far from it because you have to be smarter when you're poor - and don't let them tell you they do.

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 24/06/2016 07:32

Degree and post grad , voted remain.

mollie123 · 24/06/2016 07:32

just to upset your biased poll
degree educated (family have first degrees and masters degrees ) live in a rural area where the leave vote was 59% and I am neither thick or uneducated. How very dare you!
