I'll eat my hat if Hilary Clinton gets the democratic nomination. The democrats would have to be complete morons to nominate someone so unpopular in most of the country.

Fillyjonk · 21/01/2007 15:10

it does make me laugh though

they are all such eegits

I think Martin Sheen...

Fillyjonk · 21/01/2007 15:11

(I mean laugh in an ironic, feck me we're all going to drown when the ice caps melt sort of way...)

paulaplumpbottom · 21/01/2007 15:32

It won't happen. The Democrats know that if she is put up for election every single Republican would go out and vote in force against her.I know some of you like her, but a lot of people in the States hate her with a passion.

Condi won't get nominated either. The Republicans will not put up a Pro-abortion candidate.

Piffle · 22/01/2007 10:59

But it's about power and influence and...
Money
Hillary has the force.
Not saying it's right or wrong
I mean FFS you look at Bush JR
On paper he never stood a chance, until you take the family, who they know and the machine behind him.
I was no aware that Condi was pro abortion though, that surprises me.
It will be interesting to watch how this transpires.
Some of the press were reporting Hillary has support of a lot of right wing republicans as well as a strong democrat base, BUT that she has thus middle grounded and lost the common touch so to speak, that aspect which appeals to those who trudge out and vote.
I think although she is not likeable to the voters, she is very competent and would be an excellent leader(although I confess she impresses me in many ways)
At least she has the nouse to mop up the chit mess GWB has made of the US economy.

choosyfloosy · 22/01/2007 11:03

just adding to agree that hilary will never be president.

funny that she can't see that? i think she's very clever.

is it poss she might run as a Republican? having been a Goldwater girl and all.

paulaplumpbottom · 22/01/2007 16:40

Now lets be clear choosy she has only started her exploratory commitee. This means she is almost sure to run. However she might see that she doesn't have a chance and stop. I think she will run in the end. As much as I despise her I have to admit that she is a very clever person, although I do think she has a big ego which might be big enough to block out the fact that she can't win.

expatinscotland · 22/01/2007 16:43

McCain is still being quiet, too.

alipiggie · 22/01/2007 16:54

Well if I could vote - which I won't be able to for the next President - it would be for Barak Obama. That man can talk the talk and walk the walk and sorry, I don't like Hilary. Just don't trust her. The good news is the nomination's all going to be happening 15 miles down the road in Denver. So might just see if I can get a volunteer job and go along and see what it's all like first hand.

paulaplumpbottom · 22/01/2007 17:02

McCain is being quiet isn't he? There is a fab article on him in Vanity Fair by the way. I don't know how I feel. If noobody new came out of the woodwork he is who I would vote for. The problem with McCain is that he doesn't say what he really feels which I hate. I feel like he is trying to hard to tow the Party line. For instance I think he feels that Homosexuals should be married but he doesn't want to upset the Republican Base. He should speak his mind, I think people would appreciate that more. I know that in his time in the Senate he has shown that he can work with the left, he should build on this. I have to say that I believe there has to be a stronger repulican candidate out there. I wish Elizabeth Dole or Dan Quayle would step up, but I don't think they will.

alipiggie · 22/01/2007 17:05

Do you know anything about Richardson D-NM. Apparently he's another one who's forming a committee?

paulaplumpbottom · 22/01/2007 17:07

Never heard of him?

ruty · 22/01/2007 17:24

I like her a lot. but she doesn't have Bill's warmth. and a lot of people seem to still believe all the mud slinging that was thrown at them throughout Clinton's presidency courtesy of the republicans. [correct me if i'm wrong expat]
I'm keen on Obama too. But he is quite young and inexperienced. God, if either of them won i'd be elated.

nogoes · 22/01/2007 17:29

I don't like her, I think she is very cold, she does however have a brain and that is a novelty in this day and age!

paulaplumpbottom · 22/01/2007 17:39

It wasn't mudslinging. He publicly lied in Federal court!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ruty · 22/01/2007 18:00

paula i was talking about the other things that Clinton had not done, like the dodgy property dealing etc. Anyway, i really don't care whether he had a blow job or not - he was stupid to lie about it yet - but the whole witch hunt by Starr was disgusing IMO. And look what lies Bush gets away with...

paulaplumpbottom · 22/01/2007 18:21

Well if he had dodgy property dealings he shouldn't be allowed to get away with it any more than anybody else.

On the other subject I do think someone's moral character is important, and he has proven that he has none. If he can't even be faithful to his wife, how can he be faithful to the American people.

There was also the issue of his last minute pardons which were inexuseable. These are people who tried to steal furniture from the White House for god sake.

alipiggie · 22/01/2007 18:37

Oh and didn't they remove certain keys of keyboards too, which cost the tax payer thousands of dollars as they had to replace every keyboard. I'm with Paula on this one. Lie about one thing lie about a lot. You have to be beyond reproach to lead any country - with no skeletons in the closet at all. I have no sympathy for Bill Clinton whatsoever and I never did. Anymore than I can condone Bush taking the US and Britain into a futile war.

ruty · 22/01/2007 19:55

that's the whole point - he didn't do any dodgy property deals - they were all smears by the republicans but it took him a long time to clear his name. I only hope George Bush gets wrath in equal proportion from the USA public for his crimes in making the world such a dangerous place, in comparison to Clinton having a moment of weakness with a silly assistant.

paulaplumpbottom · 22/01/2007 20:05

A moment? More like several. And we shouldn't forget his other trashy lovers Gennifer and Paula. Yuck.

Chandra · 22/01/2007 20:07

My first reaction when I saw the news this morning was, she might have been the bosy wife of a previous president but we may be miles better than having the ex drogadict son of another president. Actually I would like her to win, she has already experience in ruling the US

Which reminds me of one of the thousands of jokes circulating by then.

So there were Bill and Hilary resting after sex when Bill starts reminding about times gone by:

Bill - Ahh, me, the president of the United States, you should be dead proud of me! do you remember that mechanic you were dating when we met? imagine what he should think when he sees you as the first lady.

Hillary - Just imagine! he would be president by now...

paulaplumpbottom · 22/01/2007 20:12

I would be the first to admit that George hasn't been the best President ever but its wrong to berate him for addictions he has had the strength of character to overcome.

Chandra · 22/01/2007 20:19

Oh no, I don't mind about his former addictions, actually, I remember being really worried about him being a fool ruining relations between countries while he was in his first election campaign, even before I knew of his former problems with drugs. Sadly... I was right.

LaDiDaDi · 22/01/2007 20:19

I think it's interesting the way US politics seems dominated by a few specific issues, such as abortion and homosexual marriage, in a way that isn't the case in the UK. Does anyone know why this is?
