Ched Evans signs for Chesterfield.

I am a bit surprised by this. Didn't expect any team to hire him until after the retrial has happened and then only if he was found not guilty. What's everyone's else reaction. It's all happened really quietly compared to last time.

He's entitled to apply for and take a job I'd assume. Presumably if retrial results in him being jailed he'll lose the job, if not, he won't. Think the hysteria about clubs employing him was bizarre tbh. He's been jailed, he may be again, should he not be allowed work in the meantime?

I'm not sure if he is still on the sex offenders register.
If I was anyone involved in that club I would be finding out over safe working policy regarding lone women working and not allowing him to coach children

mamas12 clearly you have inside information since you are marking him guilty. Have you informed the police of what you know?

INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY

His conviction has been quashed. It was deemed unsafe. He is allowed and entitled to work. And why, exactly do you believe him to be a danger to children?

And don't troll me. I am not a rape apologist or any other kind of apologist. I'm simply horrified at the prejudice you are demonstrating.

I cant see him not being paid.
At the moment he is not on the sexual offenders register so I doubt any restrictions on his access to children will be applied by the club.
If he is found guilty he will be back on sexual offenders register( so some restrictions will apply again) but as he is already signed there is little else anyone could do.
There is a chance that in the next couple of years he may be called up by wales again as well if he is found not guilty.

By all accounts he is not that good.
So doubt if any one would really care about him if this hadnt all happened.
Find it all confusing as I thought he admitted it.

He was fairly decent before his conviction and had played in the Premier League and for Wales . After four years away I doubt he will be challenging much but who knows. Chestfield were nearly relegated last year so he could prove important, and therefore be celebrated, in that regard

His conviction was quashed, so as far as I understand he is currently innocent and can be treated as though he was never found guilty.

I read that he is being paid £2000 a week at Chesterfield!!
Tho he was on £20,000 a week before, so he's slumming it now!

They will have taken him on as a gamble, hoping that they can get him back to fitness and, if he is found not guilty at his retrial, they can then sell him on to a higher profile/richer club at a big fat profit not having paid a signing fee for him or (and I know this is relative) very much in the way of wages.

His GF's dad offered to pay his wages when Oldham (?) were going to sign him, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case now. I'm just amazed that they wouldn't wait until after the trial. Footballers do a lot of work with children.

I am not sure a club would listen to complaints unless he is reconvicted. Otherwise he is just like any other footballer with a past in the eyes of the football team..

Many clubs would have been happy to hire him to represent them even with a conviction.

They didn't care until there was a massive public outcry which threatened to affect them.

If there was no noise they would have carried on and used him.
