Cologne Sexual Assaults IX and David Davies Web Chat

LumelaMme · 07/02/2016 13:07

On New Year's Eve women in Cologne were amongst those who were sexually assaulted and robbed in mass attacks.
This is a link to the last thread which has links to all the others.

Some of us have begun a petition asking the government to uphold women's rights and freedoms:

THE PETITION _ Please sign and share
The petition

We also hope that tomorrow, Monday 8th February, David TC Davies MP will be on MN for a web chat between 1pm and 2pm - it should be a sticky on either Chat or In The News. David was one of the few MPs who has shown any interest in this whole issue and who has responded sympathetically to those of us concerned about women's rights in a changing world.

Ah yes, BillSykes, shades of Barry Mannakee !

Someone from the left will have to explain to me why immigrant rights are more important than the rights and safety of women, gays and Jews?

Probably on some sort of guilt trip after Labour started their illegal war in Iraq.

I wonder why the UK media never report the massive anti-islamification demos that are regularly held in Poland and elsewhere?

HelpfulChap · 01/03/2016 06:21

I asked earlier why Mumsnet is tacitly supporting the No Borders agenda.

Then it hit me, unfortunately it is probably as simple as clicks equal cash.

Profits before women's rights and safety. How very capitalist.

Childrenofthestones · 08/03/2016 07:42

Good luck with that. I have several left wing friends ( Im in the middle) that I have ask this several time to no avail. They either dance around the subject of deny it all together. Its the equivalent of sticking their fingers in their ears and going lalalala.
From what I have read it is called victim stacking. The stack for them , for whatever reason they cant explain, has Islam at the top women next gay and jews below them.
Online you can see leftwingers all day long throwing women gays and jews under the bus to avoid even criticising Islam.
Just look at the number of years that they screamed racist and islamaphobe into the faces of people, (including shamefully some of the parents), that were trying to bring up the Muslim rape gangs operating with impunity across the country.
Now it is undeniable you will see the same people defelcting when ever it comes up.

It is good to have both threads running

I dont know why both started at same time and one became silent for some weeks but was revived.

An appropriate thought for International Women's Day - here's a letter to those of us who expressed concern and set up the petition from Krisztina Morvai MEP, about her work on behalf of women's safety in Europe:

"Thank you very much for your letter of 6th February regarding my speech at the Women's Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM) Committee of the European Parliament on the subject of violent crimes committed by migrant men against women particularly in Germany, but also in Sweden and other countries on New Year's Eve 2015 (and also since then). I apologize for the delay in my answer, but I was waiting for a response to a letter I wrote on the issue to the German Ambassador (Permanent Representative) to the European Union. Unfortunately, no answer was received from him until now, so it is time to send my response to you.

Let me inform you about the work I have done since my speech at the FEMM (Women's) Committee in relation to the matter of violence against women in Europe by migrant men. Following the speech and the many responses I received to it, I wrote letters to the German Permanent Representative (Ambassador) to the European Union as well as the Swedish Permanent Representative asking them to inform me about the results of the investigations regarding the crimes committed on New Year's Eve 2015 as well as on the status of violence against women committed by migrant men in their countries. I called their attention to the fact, that violence against women is considered to be a very serious issue by the European Union and Member States are expected to respond to such violence with due diligence and these crimes must be taken very seriously by their authorities. Moreover, it is expected that victims of such crimes are assisted and helped by state authorities. In addition, I wrote a letter to Ms. Iratxe Garcia Perez, the Chairperson of the FEMM (Women Right's and Gender Equality) Committee of the European Parliament asking her to initiate thorough investigation of the crimes committed on New Year's Eve 2015 and since then by migrant men against women across the European Union.

Let me inform you about the responses I received. Unfortunately the German Permanent Representative (Ambassador) Mr. Reinhard Silberberg (Permanent Representation of Germany, Rue Jacques de Lalaing 8-14 /Brussel Belgique, Tel: +32 27871000 Fax: +32 27872000, Email: [email protected] , Internet: www.eu-vertretung.de ) has not responded to my letter at all. I must say I found this very surprising, because as a Member of the European Parliament I am used to receiving answers to my official letters.

The Swedish Permanent Representative (Ambassador), Mr. Ahnlid Anders (Square de Meeûs 30/De Meeûssquare 30 ,1000 Bruxelles/Brussel Belgique, Tel: +32 22895611 Fax: +32 22895600 Email: [email protected], E-mail: [email protected]) did respond to my letter, very briefly. He argued that after as far as he was aware such crimes were not committed in Sweden but in Germany. He advised me to contact the Swedish Chief of police which I did, but unfortunately there has been no response since.

Ms. Iratxe Garcia Perez, the Chairperson of the FEMM (Women's) Committee responded to my letter. She agreed with me that violence against women these days is an extremely serious problem across Europe. She further argued that Member States are obliged to take such violence seriously and they must respond to it. On the other hand, she pointed out that the European Union (Parliament) cannot "interfere" because the investigation of and response to such violence against women is the responsibility of Member States. I'm slightly surprised by this response since the European Parliament and in particular the FEMM Committee is usually very active in taking up similar matters and there is a large number of European Union recommendations and other sources on the subject matter of violence against women which would make it possible for the Committee to check their enforcement by the Member States.

I believe that civil society should be even more active in Europe these days towards putting a pressure on governments to prevent violence against women and respond to such attacks efficiently. I also attach a couple of European Union and other international documents.

With warm regards,

Krisztina Morvai JD, LL.M, Ph.D, associate professor of law

Member of the European Parliament"

MariscallRoad · 08/03/2016 13:44

Jo, Thanks for posting here too this important reply. At least you got a response.

Pangurban1 · 08/03/2016 15:39

How dreadful on this day that police in Ostersund, Sweden have effectively said to women to follow a self-imposed curfew to avoid being attacked or raped in the spate that has being on there recently. All the while not giving out a proper description of the attackers. How generous of them to help protect the attackers like this.

They won't give out a description of the criminals to avoid discrimination. Not against the women who are raped, but the criminals who attacked or attempted to attack the women.

"The warning has been widely criticised, including by representatives of the local government, with many arguing that women should not have to 'adapt' to abusers.
'I am adverse to the solution being to tell women and children to sat at home, that can never be the solution for us,' local government commissioner AnnSofie Andersson told Sveriges Radio." From the Mail.

And from The Local, sweden

www.thelocal.se/20160308/backlash-begins-after-swedish-women-told-not-to-go-out-alone

However the force's recommendation that women should avoid being alone at night swiftly prompted criticism in Sweden, a nation that prides itself on promoting gender equality.

"The solution can never be to not go out because of such a warning. We have very many women who work in home and social care at night for example. What are they supposed to do?" the city's mayor Ann-Sofie Andersson told Swedish broadcaster SVT.

At least the commissioner is calling it out for the discriminatory bs against women that it is.

Carried by very few newspapers. Collusive suppression and minimising.

WeMustSurelyBeLearning · 08/03/2016 16:26

I replied on the other thread too Pang but just noticed the bit where they haven't released a description of the suspects. FFS, that shows how important the right of women not to be raped is. They'd rather tell them all to stay inside rather than risk offending some people. With the added bonus of being able to blame any possible victims now and put the responsibility on them for their attacks with "Well we told you not to go out at night.." Angry

Peppergrinder2016 · 08/03/2016 19:37

Without wishing to derail this to an IN/OUT discussion, the reply from the MEP just shows how many layers of bureaucratic nonsense there is in the EU and why nothing gets done.....if ever there was an argument for leaving and getting rid of some snouts at the trough, here it is.....

Credit to her though for trying to raise the issue even if the "EU machine" intends to minimise it and ignore it.

AMouseLivedinaWindMill · 08/03/2016 20:31

I agree Pepper and yes, awful that some didnt even respond to her.

useles ineffectual time wasting paper pushing crap. Smile

To pick where we left off on the other thread number IX, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/in_the_news/2565952-Sex-Attacks-in-Cologne-and-other-European-Cities-Part-IX?watched=1&msgid=60297084#60297084

Springing and I were just musing over the likelihood of war in Europe. Sadly, this is where I think we are heading. The incidents in Cologne and across Europe are merely symptoms of our continent's annihilation.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/04/2016 22:14

unlucky83 · 05/04/2016 23:25

Place marking too ...

sportinguista · 06/04/2016 06:18

Ironically to pick up on a point from previous thread. DH watched a documentary on one of the history channels I think about just that subject and the flashpoint was a break away part of Latvia I think with the ethnic Russian issue being part of it and it was quite interesting as it showed how quickly one unrelated (to us) flashpoint could end up sparking war in the whole continent. I think we were actually quite lucky in the 90's that the break up of FYR didn't actually spark wider conflict.

There are a number of potential flash points at the moment and I'm not sure even a unified Europe is capable of heading it off.

I read in Germany' Bild magazine today that since the start of 2016, 5k child and teen refugees have gone missing and many of them may have been the victims of crime.

Can't link but another rape in Germany - this time by an Afghan asylum seeker who raped a 15 year old girl on a psych ward. He claimed to be 15 hence being placed on a children's ward. He was, in fact, 19. Story in DM.

Helpful Chap, you have every right to be angry. I'm furious, absolutely fucking furious. excuse my language
