Petition

Women in the UK must be free to work, travel and live free of sexual violence

Recently, women across the EU were subjected to mass sexual assaults of a type previously unknown in Europe. We demand that Government brings forward proposals for extra measures to uphold UK women's rights, safety & freedom, and to expand police understanding-recognition-response to such behaviour.

But this is a thread about rapists, not refugees FFS.

Moreshabbythanchic · 16/03/2016 20:22

Vertigo, maybe we should all join in on her thread and derail that.

JoMackl · 16/03/2016 20:25

Emily - What is there to learn? Well, for one thing, news from non-mainstream sources and sources most mumsnetters don't tend to read about attacks on WOMEN and CHILDREN by recently arrived migrants to Europe from countries with very different cultural attitudes to women than ours. These are news stories that much mainstream UK media, certainly the regressive leftist Guardian, is deliberately ignoring. But after 9 threads that you have doggedly followed and attempted to derail, you already know that.

And for what it's worth I am a Liberal Democrat, ffs!! Hardly "far right"! and I agree with everything posted here about not wanting to stand by and see the erosion of Western democratic values and the rights of women and LGBT people (I am also a lesbian). You really need to stop trying to close down argument by using the words "racist", "far right", etc. It is inaccurate, unjust and disingenuous. Please, stop.

AgainstTheGlock · 16/03/2016 20:31

18 years this young woman had been safe in Germany - but backwards culture followed her via her uncles: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3495111/Murder-marriage-Kurdish-woman-shot-dead-wedding-Germany-refusing-marry-cousin-prime-suspect.html

AMouseLivedinaWindMill · 16/03/2016 20:37

I think equatinging refugees with gangs of rapists as glock did is very hateful indeed

The only person I have seen doing this is YOU< this is great irony in your posts.

Most posters here understand that

a) not all migrants are rapists,

b) Not all refugees are rapists

Its YOU who always lumps the two groups together and uses terms like - all refugees are rapists!

We talk about this subject knowing that, so when someone says for instance,

" enough put them all on a boat" they mean the RAPISTS among the migrants NOT ALL THE MIGRANTS.

Its also you who makes it sound like millions of people are sex attackers.

No, we all understand a % of men have proved to be worryingly abusive towards women, and its this % we talk about because this worries some of us.

This is what the thread is about - YOU have come on from the start,

" you cant call all these poor vulnerable people rapists, they are not, how dare you, your like Nazis, this is the Jews all over again, your all racist"

Its been painstakingly explained to you, over and over and over again over the course of 10 threads No, some migrants have proved to be sexist and violent to women. I mean whats to debate...

Is it debatable whether 800 +girls came forward with reports of sexual attack and violence?

No its not debatable, and yet....you don't want us to talk about it, in case it hurts the migrants, the refugees.

And yet, the majority of reports were of men of a certain appearance being the perps...

Then you moaned that white people are sex attackers too,and again, it was explained to you - that there were LOADS OF THREADS ON SAVILLE, on Rolf Harris, and on the establishment pedophile rings and on Rotheram....even links were provided...

you IGNORED THAT....your not interested, all you want to do is churn out racist to every poster.

The irony is people like you , who lump everyone together with no distinctions cause the far right to grow.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/03/2016 20:48

Horrific link, glock Sad

But since the girl's father said his own brothers were trying to force the marriage on her, I'm a bit surprised he's reported to have let her in their care ...

AMouseLivedinaWindMill · 16/03/2016 20:49

Poor MNHQ coming under some fire on this thread and yet I think its a tricky subject and they do well to moderate it and let us have a platform to talk about this subject.

VertigoNun · 16/03/2016 20:50

Poor woman wasn't a child so didn't need to be left in the care of another.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/03/2016 20:55

A valid point, Vertigo - and even more reason, surely, to keep her away from someone planning such a future?

VertigoNun · 16/03/2016 20:58

Her killer is to blame.

And Jo I could have taken a similar puicture of muslim women in my part of London 30 years ago (uncovered on the whole) and today (even some with full face covering going to our local primary school with tiny 6 year olds with heads covered. Backwards steps which we must resist to preserve the rights of women.

MariscallRoad · 16/03/2016 23:27

I found a wonderful news about an older distinguish woman who I feel we need to know about: www.theguardian.com/world/2016/mar/16/french-woman-aged-91-gets-phd-after-30-years

French woman aged 91 gets PhD after 30 years Colette Bourlier, who awarded a high distinction for her thesis on immigrant workers, said it took so long because she ‘took breaks’. A big bravo for Colette! We can always start a study at any time in our life. Some studies require fees like at Open University but not all do. Many women though study MOOCs that are free and write freelance.

MariscallRoad · 16/03/2016 23:45

Jo and DG I ve seen those pictures since years ago. The point I feel is that our dc need to study history and geography in the secondary school - not all do. The subject is optional unfortunately - it was not so in the past - and all depends on parents whether they provide some source to their child and discuss with him/her at home. History and geography when tested at GCSE contain good coursework and much can be self taught.

ProfessorPreciseaBug · 17/03/2016 08:18

Playing the devils advocate, as one does. If .i were Mr Tsipras, I would simply charter some planes and start flying people straight into Germany.

It would be cheaper than having to deal with them in Greece... And Mrs Merkle could sort out the mess she created by offering an open border... whilst ignoring the problems that would cause to eveyone on the route into the promised land.

Mind you, as HoneyBadger has indicated, many from the MENA area have attitudes towards women that are not compatable with West European values znd the rapit arrival of thiusands of people will cause a lot of trouble. Especially when they get German access to EU freedom of movement and can come to live in the UK.

mrsquagmire · 17/03/2016 09:56

On the topic of the NYE Cologne attacks, which threaten the safety and freedom of women in European society:

The Cologne police now concede they were lying about NYE: www.thelocal.de/20160317/police-misled-public-on-cologne-nye-operations (They also performed badly at a recent school riot in Cologne so it’s not just women.) Personally, I’m relieved that it’s now widely recognised that something went badly wrong and things are being done, slowly but according to law, and that the rape law is being changed. I hope major changes will be made to German police practice when the investigation finishes and that CCTV will be widely introduced in German cities as in the UK so that sex abusers can be prosecuted. Because of the previous general orderliness of German society, policing had often been quite relaxed.

There was a cheering incident a few days ago when a sex pest tried to grope an off-duty policewoman - he was taken into custody “slightly injured” - www.general-anzeiger-bonn.de/ga-english/Off-duty-cop-tackles-sexual-harasser-article3208307.html

But I agree with most of you that such large numbers of young men with a very different attitude are going to take a heck of a lot of managing if we hope to continue living in a civilised modern society.

Thanks for posting that photo, I saw it on one of the other threads and it deeply moved me.

SpringingIntoAction · 17/03/2016 14:40

Hi

Just thought you might like to know that there is a thread in In The News called 'Turkey - Deal or No Deal' . It started a week or so ago and MNHQ moved it from Chat to In The News because we thought it would be a subject that gained prominence as the EU's talks with Turkey on this matter continued.

It would help separate out that aspect of migration from the risks and culture change issues of Cologne if we talked about Turkey deal on there.

wholecanofbeans · 17/03/2016 16:13

Thank you springing. Will take a look.

RortyCrankle · 17/03/2016 18:14

The irony is that the PM of the EU country where Emily lives has decided to take none of the migrants swarming into Europe, not a single one. So she is pretty safe to walk down the street, her daughter, if she has one, is safe to play in the park. So Emily is not demanding these people should be allowed into her country but into ours. A bit rich don't you think?

Rainbunny · 17/03/2016 18:21

Rorty - which country? Just curious, I don't know which EU countries have actually taken in refugees/migrants?

RortyCrankle · 17/03/2016 18:56

I recall Emily saying on another thread, different subject, that she lived in the Czech Republic.

I recall reading the attached article earlier in the year: www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/czechrepublic/12070377/Wave-of-refugees-to-Europe-an-organised-invasion-says-Czech-PM.html

TheHoneyBadger · 17/03/2016 20:52

emily: Is an authoritarian regime representative of 'a culture'? I think not.

see it is THIS! this complete ignorance of this region of the world and where it's at that makes it almost pointless trying to explain. YES YES YES actually the fact of constantly returning to or never getting out of authoritarian regimes actually really does bloody tell you something about the culture. you won't get it, you don't get it and nor will anyone else who hasn't lived down in the dirt (sand actually here) in this region and actually properly gotten to know a culture rather than their ethnocentric conception of it most likely.

yes it does tell you about the culture. and look what happens when you remove authoritarian regimes - switch your brain on.

TheHoneyBadger · 17/03/2016 20:54

it's like reality is just a trivial inconvenience to be ignored, no matter the consequences, in order to uphold ideology. grow up! the world from outside is watching the end of europe and marvelling at how it is committing suicide.
