Sex Attacks in Cologne and other European Cities Part IX

Petition

Women in the UK must be free to work, travel and live free of sexual violence

Recently, women across the EU were subjected to mass sexual assaults of a type previously unknown in Europe. We demand that Government brings forward proposals for extra measures to uphold UK women's rights, safety & freedom, and to expand police understanding-recognition-response to such behaviour.

Would be interesting to know how female police officers in Europe are coping with these new 'challenges' with migrants.

Moreshabbythanchic · 11/03/2016 19:48

Good point Sprong, I wonder if they are considered to be fair game too.

Rainbunny · 11/03/2016 19:55

Strongpicnic - I've linked to this article before, it's well worth the read. It gives the experiences of German women who deal with the migrants and refugees, from teachers to police officers and border guards. It's not pretty reading and it gives me no hope that respect for women can ever be installed in these men. www.spiegel.de/international/germany/sexism-and-islam-debated-in-germany-after-cologne-attacks-a-1073751.html

Then I read this in the DM today. Those poor women and Girls who have essentially been sacrificed by the Swedish government! I hate that the DM seems to be the only newspaper reporting on this, I know the press in Sweden is more tightly controlled than here but I really hope this isn't being swept under the rug by the Swedish press!

Rainbunny · 11/03/2016 19:59

Moreshabby - You bet they are. A female police officer was amongst the victims of the Cologne NYE attacks.

Moreshabbythanchic · 11/03/2016 20:17

I'm a great believer of "When in Rome", none of this "Where I come from" malarkey. If they choose to live in a non muslim country it must be made quite clear that must be prepared to respect the lifestyle of that country and to adhere to its rules.

We are partly to blame for these situations in the fact that we have been too accommodating to different cultures and this is where it has got us. We have a right to maintain our culture in our countries, we can still have respect for others without giving in to unreasonable demands such as FGM, forced marriage, rape, molestation and sharia law.

MariscallRoad · 11/03/2016 20:28

Some posters have not been seen since a few days.

AMouseLivedinaWindMill · 11/03/2016 20:31

Even though the Cologne perpetrators constitute only a tiny, criminal minority within the migrant and refugee population, the most important aspect of the attacks is that their victims were women, bringing women's rights to the forefront of the integration debate

^^ women under attack.

what are the politicians going to do about this Angry

MariscallRoad · 11/03/2016 20:31

I think so "When in Rome" and when you are in any EU state ignorance of laws is not excused.

AMouseLivedinaWindMill · 11/03/2016 20:36

their lack of prospects and the neglect they experience when they lack the support and supervision of the family Ha! but the female migrants dont go out on the rampage do they!

AMouseLivedinaWindMill · 11/03/2016 20:39

Many people in Germany are concerned about the tension between the desire to stand up for women's rights and the desire to show solidarity for refugees. Is it acceptable to lower our standards on emancipation in deference to foreign customs?

No, we have to RAISE everyone UP, we dont go DOWN!!

AMouseLivedinaWindMill · 11/03/2016 20:40

What happens, for example, when a Muslim customer refuses to shake a female coworker's hand? Should the woman accept this as being correct from an intercultural perspective, or should she take the standpoint of gender sensitivity and insist on a handshake? "There can be contradictions between a consultation that focuses on sensitivity to migrants and one that emphasizes gender sensitivity," says Eva Peters, director of a project that provides advanced training advice

well what would you do if it was a white person refusing to shake a black persons hand?

Rainbunny · 11/03/2016 20:55

AMouse - and by the same token I think that a muslim woman or orthodox Jewish woman in fact ANY woman or man of any religious or cultural background, whose culture prohibits them shaking hands with a man/woman should be expected to shake a coworker's hand as per business and cultural norms here in Europe.

Likewise, (reminded of the recent news story), a hijab is not appropriate or safe to be worn in an operating theatre, just as a jewelry including crucifix necklaces or the Star of David necklaces etc.... are not safe either.

MariscallRoad · 11/03/2016 21:28

AMouse private business depend on team cooperation and trust.

MariscallRoad · 11/03/2016 21:33

I suppose if womens qualifications are in demand such as a STEM Degree and there is desperation for it people will get away with a lot no matter your appearance. If the woman's qualification is something that is in big supply she competes with everyone else men and women.

Indigofactory · 12/03/2016 06:14

well what would you do if it was a white person refusing to shake a black persons hand?

Years ago I worked in a team with a guy who was so racist he refused to shake hands with people of a certain colour.

The bosses understood and I think they were fine with it because they arranged his travel and accounts so that he had minimum contact with such clients.

I genuinely believed that those days were over and that we lived in more enlightened and civilised times.

Those mealy mouthed excuses above frighten me. What else must we women tolerate in the name of 'cultural sensitivity?'

Title: Mass migration into Europe is unstoppable

Very interesting.

Interesting (and worrying) article on the history of UK immigration.

It says 'women have started to drop down the social ladder' I find this bad.

southernstar · 12/03/2016 17:16

Over the last couple of days Russia Today news channel has had documentaries about the attacks on women across Europe , mostly Sweden and Germany . They have been broadcasting this info ever since Cologne attacks , unlike our BBC ! They do repeat them if you want to see them , interesting and disturbing to see what is happening . The people in both these countries are waking up to what has been imposed on them

Rainbunny · 12/03/2016 17:36

Since the DM reported on the town in Northern Sweden that has seen multiple sex attacks within the space of weeks, where the town's police chief has had to ask women to stay home after dark because police resources are stretched beyond coping, I have been checking the major Swedish news publications to see what their coverage of this has been like. The result? None existent.

We may have some of the sleaziest tabloids in the UK but freedom of the press is something I will never take for granted again!

MrsGradyOldLady · 12/03/2016 22:03

mariscal I read the article you linked to in the ft. I feel so sad and actually quite hopeless for the future of my daughters.

fourmummy · 13/03/2016 06:56

MrsGrady- it's behind a paywall for me. Can you summarise, please?

TheHoneyBadger · 13/03/2016 07:31

it's just silenced like a non issue isn't it? massive rise in attacks upon women and children, massively changes to the quality of life for tons of women and it's just... silence.

be quiet women and don't complain and if you do you're racist or right wing or being hysterical (funnily enough even from feminists!).

ProfessorPreciseaBug · 13/03/2016 08:06

The elephant in the room, is that Islam is not compatible with equal rights for women as understood in terms of UK and European legislation.

It will remain this way until a women can drive and wear a bikini in Mecca.

The problem is that there exists a group of people think everyone has should respect other peoples culture without examining whether that culture contravenes UK legislation.

By way of example, There was an article on R4 some years back about the problems faced by the significant number of East Africans in London. (as often hapens I recall the article but not the details) In that culture a woman must leave the room if a man walks in which means every room must have two doors so the woman has an exit. Of course in English homes, we mostly have just the one door. Social workers were trying to arrange works to adapt exixting homes to meet the needs of the new arrivals. The question that comes to my mind is how do the men of such a culture behave in public? Would they expect all the women in a shop to leave when they walk in? Or do they think that any woman in public must be a prostitute because they have never seen a woman outside their own culture?
